If You're going to replace the timing chain for Your 2013 Ford F-150 on Your own You'll spend between $40 and $60 for just the chain. However if You're going to do this job it's best to change out all parts related to the timing chain so a full replacement kit is going to range in cost between $100 and $150. If You think this job is going to be too difficult for You, and it will be for many owners, then You're going to want to take it in to a shop. The total cost of parts and labor for a professional to do this task will be between $1000 and $1400.

It is not as simple as replacing the timing chain. You need to replace all 3 chains, all 4 phasers, 4 phaser bolts, 4 chain guides, 3 chain tensioners, 4 vvt solenoids, front cover water pump pass thru gasket, crank seal, water pump, timing chain idler assy, and crank gear, crank pulley bolt, and water pump. Then you need to install Mellings high volume/pressure oil pump. All Ford parts ONLY except the Melling pump. With the additional work involved just to get to the front of the engine, my price would start at $3500-$4000 and take about a weekend to complete.

The average cost to replace the timing is 3500-4000 on the 3.5 you have to replace everything not just the chains and tensioners the 4 phasers have to be changed as well as the bolts for them the vvt solenoids need to be changed that’s 400 in them alone because the cheap ones don’t last so you have to use the ome ones from the dealership, the water pump and gaskets they recommend you change the fuel line and pump on the Valve cover also all the gaskets have to be changed the antifreeze has to be emptied and refilled after the job the oil also needs to be changed if any antifreeze gets in the oil pan when pulling the front cover the full timing kit with everything in it starts at 1300 for the cheap stuff that doesn’t last no time and goes up to 1600+ for the ford ome that is highly recommend to put back. So no youcan’tdo it for just a couple hundred bucks plus you got to add in labor time is another 1000-2000 depending on shop labor cost. So 3500-4000 is in the ballpark to do the timing swap
