The 2005 Chevy Silverado takes 28.8 oz of freon. Being a sweaty mess is never a great time. That's why the air conditioner needs to be functioning. You will face issues with this part at some time. The motor could become faulty. An inaccurate thermostat might come about. A nasty odor from the vents will cause issues with Your comfort. A fan can become loose. A Freon leak will give You the sweats. You will come across a few annoying noises from the air conditioner. Loose mounting bolts will become a nuisance. A bad compressor will get noisy. Too much Freon will make this happen. These sounds need to be look into quickly or You will lose Your mind.

The 2005 Chevrolet Silverado does not use Freon for its A/C system. It uses R134a and requires 1.8 lbs. (28.8 oz.) for a full recharge of the A/C unit.

I‘m just trying to find out how much mine takes so I can weight it back in but for all the the people that only wanted to attempt to correct someone else. You should at least know what your talking about if you want to flap them gums that bad. 134a is not a freon.134a is a refrigerant. Freon may distribute 134a but I don't pay that much attention to who's name is on the jug. I would really like to know is how any of this c**p even matters and if the person at the beginning is correct on the amount.

Sorey guys. Not enough info. Reg pickup is around 28 oz. King cab will be approx 32 oz. A lot depends on dual controls. Driver side and/or pass side. Or, front controls - rear controls. Or just front for the whole thing. Go to the GM website or forum and put in ALL your info. You'll get a hell over a lot better answer than any of these "I know what I'm doing" backyard mechanics. The info is out there. You just have to know where to look and find it. Theres no such thing as a little extra will make it colder. A little extra will over pressurise the system and shut it down. And your back to square one. The most important thing is to make sure you vacuum out the system before you even start. I usually go -30 for at least 20 min to make sure theres no leaks. Sorry i couldn't give you a better answer but it's easy and good luck. Just because you asked I can tell you can do it.

It's one type of Freon. Cars also use r12 and now yf1234. So, it is of value to specify the type.
