There are three different available engines on the 2005 GMC Yukon, not including the Yukon DenaliAnd the Yukon XL -- which are considered different models, for practical purposes. Regardless of whether You have the 4.8L V8 or either of the 5.3L V8s (regular and Flex Fuel), You'll always need 6.0 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil. In a pinch, You can substitute SAE 5W-40, but it's not recommended if You can avoid it. It's advised against because oils with higher viscosities are thicker, which can introduce extra friction into the engine's operation. Over time, this causes premature wear and tear, and can eventually lead to an early engine failure. Even if an opportunity to save money presents itself, You'll ALWAYS want to go with SAE 5W-30 at Your regular oil change whenever possible; You'll thank Yourself in the long term.

Depending on the engine option selected in the 2005 GMC Yukon will determine the amount of oil the engine will need. The 2005 Yukon with the 4.8L V8 engine, 5.3L V8 engine (non-flex fuel), and 5.3L V8 engine (flex fuel) each take 6 quarts of full synthetic oil. The 2005 Yukon Denali with the 6.0L V8 engine takes 6 quarts of full synthetic oil. The 2005 Yukon XL with the 5.3L V8 engine (non-flex fuel), 5.3L V8 engine (flex fuel), and 6.0L V8 engine each take 6 quarts of full synthetic oil. The 2005 Yukon XL with the 8.1L V8 engine takes 6.4 quarts of full synthetic oil.
