EacH2012 Toyota Yaris model configuration comes with the same 1.5L 4Cylinder engine, 1NZ-FE. That engine requires the use of 3.9 quarts of SAE 5W-20 in the sedan models, and 3.9 quarts of SAE 5W-30 in the hatchback models. In their absence, You can substitute SAE 10W-30 for either in an emergency situation. This is, however, not recommended. Using an oil with a higher weight means a thicker product and a higher viscosity -- which introduces friction into Your engine's operation. Over time, more friction will cause more wear and tear, and eventually Your engine can and will prematurely fail. Even if it costs a few more dollars per change, You'll thank Yourself for using the manufacturer's recommended oil with the lowest weight.
