The transmission fluid on a 2006 Ford Explorer should be changed every 25,000 to 40,000 miles, and checked more often; d***y, low, or broken down trans fluid can lead to problems with the transmission overheating and worse. I don't need to tell You that a transmission is an expensive component to replace, so You'll want to do Your best to take care of it. Filling the transmission fluid on a 2006 Ford Explorer is a little complicated, because the fill plug isn't quite the same as that of other vehicles. To understand what I'm talking about, the best thing You can do is see it represented visually; Mark Witek has a great video on YouTube showing You some tips and tricks for working with the '06 Explorer. So could you pump it in manually?

It has to be pumped into the transmission it's a plug on the bottom of the transmission, however you need a adapter to screw into the plug and then you can pump in the fluid.I found that out the hard way

The transmission has a fill part on the top part of it. You just unscrew and add enough to get it to the fill line.
