The 2019 Subaru Outback's stero is part of the multiMedia navigation system and owners appreciate the 8- inch display but are frustrated with the automatic radio feature. When the stereo is "turned off" by depressing the center display's volume control button, it is only 'put to sleep'. The navigation and radio will go black and the stereo will remain silent, but the minute the vehicle is restarted the radio will resume playing at the last volume setting used before "powering off". There is no definitive method for turning off the Outback's stereo. Instead, turn the volume knob all the way to "0" and on start-up, it will be silenced. Another alternative is to preset the satellite to channel "0". It is a silent channel.

The radio comes on when you start the car. It is a feature. But no one knows why. :)
