You can turn the daytime running light on or off in a Ford Escape using the information display and the five-way control switch on the left side of the steering wheel. Scroll to settings, then vehicle, next lighting and finally daytime lights. If You have the daytime running lamps set to on and want to use them, turn the lighting control to the auto lamp position. When the head lamps are off, the daytime running lights will turn on automatically when You're driving and will switch between daytime running lights and headlamps as needed based on how light or dark it is outside and whether or not the wipers are on. The daytime running lights will only work when they're in the auto lamp position and if You set them to come on under preferences in the information display. If the daytime running lights are set to off in the information display they will not turn on at all.

Note, daytime running lights (drl) are a safety measure which can help make it easier for others to see your vehicle during the day. If your car is fitted with a "drl off" mode, the headlight control knob can be twisted to "drl off" to turn them off.

There is a software called forscan, for ford products. Its a free download to laptop pc.you need an obdii /usb cable with medium / high speed scan switch. You get the extended license which allows you to acces the GEM. Then you can easily change the drl settings.
