While the 2000 GMC Sonoma is regarded as a generally reliable vehicle, that doesn't mean that it's without its faults. Across several different complaint aggregators, the number one gripe is an illuminated ABS light caused by a brake system control unit failure. This is over twice as common as the second highest reported issue, so there's a good chance that if You have a serious fault, this will be it. Some other problems include a fuel pump failure caused by a bad fuel filter, a failed fuel level sensor, a leaking heater core under the passenger's side of the dashboard, a leaking intake manifold (either coolant or engine oil), and a failed transmission output seal. Though these are relatively uncommon, they still arose for dozens of drivers, so they're not isolated incidents.

My truck (2000 gmc Sonoma SLS 4.3 vortec, 5 speed manual, single cab, step side) has the false abs light warning, parking brake light illuminates while driving, and I believe my fuel level sensor has failed because my fuel gage is stuck at full making me have to guess how much fuel I have unless I know I have a full tank then I can follow my trip.
