While the 2005 Ram 2500 doesn't have any open transmission-related recalls, there are a small number of relevant technical service bulletins, which indicate long standing problems. Most notably, TSB 21-009-07 and TSB 21-015-05 each apply to the '05 2500. The first indicates an issue with the governor pressure solenoid valve on the 48RE transmission (the high-output Diesel), and the latter points to problems with the transmission cooler return filter on the 545RFE. It's not a certainty that these will be an issue for You, even if Your vehicle is affected; however, they should give You hesitation if You're looking to purchased a preowned vehicle where the repairs were not made. Neither problem is too severe -- the first causes slippage between first and second gear, while the second causes delayed gear engagement -- You can find similar model years which are not affected. 2008-2010 seemed to be great years for the transmission, as there are no open TSBs.
