The 2018 Dodge Ram is generally a reliable vehicle, and the problems You'll encounter with the transmission, most of the time, are going to be the ones You'd expect on any trucks: the engine running rough, bumping hard into first gear, some jerking when shifting from first into second, difficulty slipping into gear while in traffic, and hard downshifting to stop when slowing down. These, of course, aren't all the time, but juSTSome potential issues. However, the 2018 Rams, especially the 2500s and 3500s, have a rather special and peculiar issue with their transmissions: they can inadvertently shift out of park and start to move. Yes, on their own, without You touching the shifter. Think how cool that is, when Your pet or Your child happens to be in front of Your right, right The good news is, there's a recall and You can get the issue repaired without it coming out of Your pocket. As a stop gap, You can set the parking brake during idling, but You really should get this fixed if You have one of these model year trucks, with the gear-shifter mounted on the steering column.

A common transmission problem facing the 2018 dodge ram is erratic shifting, rough shifting and delayed gear engagement.

My 2018 3500 just went to the dealer at 70,000 miles with tranny problems. Just got an estimate for 12000 to replace it. Last Mopar I'll ever touch.

I have a 2018 Ram 3500 Limited. Ithas 45,000 miles on it and just a few more weeks of warranty. Clutches took a c**p, transmission needs replaced and the dealerships won’t honor the warranty. Now I get to hunt for a used or reman transmission because new transmissions are over $11k and that’s if you can get your hands on one. Totally p**s more customer service!!

2015 Ram 1500 - Have this issue at 61K miles. Erratic shifting, rough shifting and delayed gear engagement. $5,500 for a rebuild - Did NOT take it to the dealer. Transmission guys tell me they have seen this more frequently..

At 155,000 miles changed the front AND REAR DIFF AND CRANCASE FLUIDS LET TRANSMISSION ALONE no problems with truck beside alternator at 152000 and short runner valve at 154,000. It seems like anytime i change transmission fluid the tranny goes so im not touching it. Plan to take the 1500 ram 5.7 to 240,000 miles

The dealership replaced the transmission, torque converter and oil cooler 13 months ago under warranty. Now 13 months later and only 13000 miles it’s out again, once it’s replaced I’ll most likely trade for another brand truck. I bought this 2500 heavy duty 4x4 for the ability to have a HD truck and now it won’t keep a transmission, very disappointed in the Ram!!!

I have a 2018 dodge ram 2500 gas, barely over 100,000 miles and the Dodge dealership stated I might need to replace the transmission due to the overdrive. Its still in the shop and he will know in 2 more days if it really is the transmission. I called AAMCO to get a quote just incase I need to replace it and the guy there stated that he replaces quite a few transmissions for these newer models with less than 100,000 miles on them. He sees alot of problems with the Ram transmissions. If my transmission is going out, I am not taking it back to the dealership to get another Mopar.
