The biggest issue You'll need to look for in the 2014 Chevrolet Captiva is excessive oil consumption, which is common on the 2.4L Ecotec engine (and most -- if not all -- Ecotec engines for that matter). While this in and of itself is not a huge issue, it can quickly lead to low engine oil levels, which can result in a host of other issues that might lead to catastrophic failure. To mitigate against this, You'll need to check Your engine oil often, and top off as necessary. It's not enough to change Your oil at regular intervals, since the Captiva can eat up a quart or more within an oil change interval. Topping off can save You from serious replacement costs in the long run, up to and including total engine failure.

I for one actually love our captiva, although it does have a problem with oil usage, it doesn't burn it or leak it, it does have to be going somewhere, but where it goes I don't know. We just recently made 2 trips from East TN.to North West Iowa in June. I changed the oil before we left and it used 3 qts for both trips. In July we went to Daytona and it only used 1 qt for the whole trip. Like I said we love our captiva, it is a very good SUV. We have almost 170,000 miles on it and I do keep up with the maintenance on it. Other than the oil problem it doesn't have any other issues. I would consider purchasing another used one as they don't make them anymore.

We already had the engine replaced once , we have always kept up on the oil changes, and when we got the new engine , we were told to check the oil every 500 miles because it just goes thru it for some reason,it don't leak it it don't come thru the exhaust its just gone.

I bought a used 2014 CaptivaSport last May 2021. Last September I had $4200 repair to do with air intake plus got oilchange and new tires & alignment. The engine light came on in March so I took to the Dealer, they said it had less than a quart of oil and it needed a new engine. I had mentioned it was consuming oil faster than it should. I saw no leaking under the vehicle. Carshield didn't want to cover the new engine because they said I was negligent because they said I mentioned the oil consumption but didn't check the oil from September thru March. The Dealership had it for three months waiting on another engine. I finallygot it back two days ago and the next day the engine light was on so I called and took it back to Dlr, they said maybe they forgot to reset the engine light. They hooked it up to a diagnostic and it showed a code for the catalitic converter, they cleared it anyways. The next day the engine light came on again. I called the Dlr again and took it up there. They said I had to make an appointment for next week, but I could drive it as long as the engine light wasn't flashing. The asst mgr said oh it's the catalitic converter. How does he know for sure, and if he went by what the diagnostics, why didn't they say that it was the catalitic converter using up & burning the oil? I'm so upset after paying $8,450 for thenew engine. Why wouldn't they know it was the catalitic converter before, wouldn't they question why the oil kept burning up quick? I believe it should've been a recall, but Chevy won't admit they're wrong. Now they will want to charge meway too much for a converter. I feel they are f ing me over in repairs because I didn't want to buy a new Chevy. After this I'll never buy another Chevy and will tell everyone I know about my horrible experience with Chevy. Also, similar problems with 2012 Equinox oil consumption before. The other Dlrship wanted me to pay for several oil changes over a period of time to prove it had the oil consumption recall. BS!

We have a 2014 Captiva and just spent $600 to replace radiator, 55,000mi, always garage kept and never in an accident. It appears radiator failed due to electrolysis and is a well known issue for these vehicles but as of yet GM has not issued recall. I would recommend frequent flush/fill cooling system as antifreeze is much cheaper than waiting for problems.

Same key stuck in ignition problems. It's not a problem according to good old GM. Cost 4-500$ to put a new spring in. Just U-tube it. To. Show how to simply lower steering wheel, push a little tab and key will release!

2014 chevy captivia sport. Car has 136,000 miles. Engine went out. Excessive oil consumption. I do not recommend and I'm glad they stopped making them as they should.

Have had Captiva 2014 since 2015 bought with 13,000 mi and it has 184,000 on the same motor. Had to replace the sensors in the motor around 100,000 mi (my son and I did this and it was $60 fix). That helped the surging of the motor when I was stopped at a stop sign, the knocking and check engine light. It does use a lot of oil but I check it often and add up to 3 quarts between oil changes as needed. It also takes off and runs up the RPMs if you have it in cruise and accelerate at all with the gas pedal. I only use the control on the cruise to control the speed in cruise and it does fine. Most of these were made in Mexico (3 at the beginning of the vin#) the ones made in the US have less problems. It would be nice if they would put a recall on this vehicle but I know that isn't going to happen. I can't say I love this car but I can't complain because it is still going strong as long as I check the oil its all good. I have taken many trips across the Midwest and it just keeps going.

I have a 2014 Captiva with 130k miles and I seriously love this car. I need a new engine apparently because of the timing chain that skips. Where do I even start with a new engine?

I just had my engine rebuilt on my 2014 Captiva. Only had 100,000 miles. It was the timing chain that broke. The serpentine belt was just replaced a few months before. Had to get valves and gaskets replaced the timing chain jumped out of time and damaged all valves. Cost me over $3,800 dollars.

I got a used 2014 Chevy Captiva in 2021, it was supposed to be used as a back up car(extra) just in case. So, one day I went to turn it on and nothing, changed the battery, started, and checked several fuses and still will not start. It just dead, no lights on dash board or no clue.

Bought 2014 Captiva Sport LS (base/fleet model) with 48,000 miles from Enterprise Rental. Problems immediately. Bad engine design. Crankcase vent system sucks up too much oil and sends through intake plenum right into throttle body (replaced three times) with associated moisture causing rough running on startup. Had to change catalytic converter twice due to failure from oil being burned causing bad emissions. Also, VVT (variable valve timing) solenoids very susceptible to failure/problems due to oil not being perfectly clean. Timing chain and related computer control of engine operation has resulted in very expensive maintenance. Electric parking brake problems/failure (supposedly fixed after 2012). Electrical systems issues with dash lighting staying on for some controls (A/C, window switches, etc.) after engine off and key out and doors locked. Failure of rubber "stopper" on cooling system near thermostat. Poor and inferior interior plastic trim on front seats with clips breaking under normal use. USB port failure. Could have been a very good replacement for its predecessor the Saturn VUE if these things would have been addressed. Why not develop an engine that performs like a Toyota or other 4 cylinder engine? They could have kept it in the lineup and sold many many more. Ecotech not very "Eco" friendly for sure. Wasting oil and polluting more. One positive, though. The engine when running correctly has plenty of power and gets reasonable mileage. Too bad the diesel version wasn't clean enough to be sold in the U.S. Because it would have been even more profitable.
