If there is coolant leaking out from the exhaust behind the alternator, its quite likely that the Ford Explorer in question has suffered structural damage towards the back, or has a damaged gasket seal. This typically leads to damage within the cars intake/exhaust manifold or directly within the cylinder head as well. This will give out a foul, strong smell that is very easy to notice. Just remove the cap to the coolant to see if theres an odd smell. If there is, its almost certain that the head gasket is damaged or blown. It will need to be replaced for the car to function properly.
There is no recall but here is what we can do. Call the National Highway Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 and complain. If enough of us let them know that this water pump problem is not safe because it could leave us stranded in the middle of the street, they may start a recall. Also call to join a class action law suit that is already in progress with Kessler, Topaz, Meltzer, and Check LLP at (484)270-1496 ask for Ms. Huggins who is very helpful. I have done both of these things because I have a failed water pump in my 2013 Ford Explorer XLT and the mechanic's estimate is $3900 to fix. I can't even drive the car because coolant goes straight to the ground. We are stronger in numbers. Anyone with this problem needs to call these

If you have a coolant leak on your 2013 ford explorer it can be a variety of things, from a faulty thermostat housing to a gasket that needs to be replaced.
