Depending on the specifics of Your configuration, the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 fitted with A5.3L V8 engine will have a maximum towing capacity of either 7400 oR8400 pounds. This varies depending on which axle ratio is used by Your Silverado 1500; the smaller capacity belongs to the truck with the axle ratio of 3.42:1, while the larger falls with the axle ratio of 3.73:1. To see which axle ratio Your particular Silverado is fitted with, You'll need to look to the VIN sticker on the driver's side door jamb. There, You'll find an axle code, which can be looked up online to determine Your gear ratio. Regardless, You can only tow as much as Your truck can handle; attempting to pull more can lead to serious damage to the transmission and others, so first and foremost You should listen to what Your truck is telling You.
