The Honda Pilot is known to have a few issues with the power tailgate, and they range widely in causes and fixes. The most common is likely an issue with the sensor -- if Your Pilot's tailgate won't open all the way, beeps, and closes, that's Your likely cause. Another big problem tends to be lubrication. If the sensor senses an obstruction, it'll revert to the closed state. Under-lubricated pistons can simulate an obstruction, so this can cause Your issue. Finally, the cause might be the motor itself. If the tailgate refuses to budge when You tell it to, You may have a faulty motor. This is probably the most expensive fix, but at least Your issue will be taken care of in the long run.
