The kind of gas a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta takes is regular gasoline. Car parts eventually will become ineffective. The fuel filter needs to be replaced every 30,000 miles. If it doesn't, You will come across issues with the performance. Having the fuel burn greatly is the key to maximizing Your miles per gallon. Your gas tank needs to be in top shape. You will come into issues at some point. The gas tank can become loose. A faulty control valve may arise. The gas cap could become stuck and will be quite an ordeal to deal with. There might be gas leaks, which need to be looked into pronto.
2017 Jetta has a turbo stock in all engines. You should really put 91 octane in it to get all the power that it has. Previously VW turbos needed premium fuel. But starting in 2016 you CAN use regular gas in Jettas. VW changed some things to make this happen. But I can 100% say that you WILL see a difference in putting the better gas in.

Prior to the 2016 model year, it was recommended that owners use 89 octane or higher gasoline. Newer models; including the 2017 VW Jetta; are fine with using 87 octane regular unleaded gasoline for regular, non-desiel engines.
