The kind of oil a 2018 Nissan Altima takes is 0w-20. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into problems with the oil at some point. Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. A normal problem is a nasty burning smell. This needs to be looked into as soon as possible or the car might explode. You could experience terrible gas mileage. Knocking noise may come about from the engine.

Being the only version of the 2018 Nissan Altima to come with a larger engine, the SL holds more oil. The 6 cylindered SL uses 5.1 quarts of 0w-20 oil. The SL also comes in a 2.5 liter engine, along with the SE, the SR and the SV. Using 4.9 quarts of oil, the 2.5 liter Altima's share the same viscosity of 0w-20 as the larger SL.
