If You've got a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, then You have one of two different engines under the hood. Some models are fitted with a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4Cylinder engine, while others have a 2.4L 4Cylinder. The 2.0T requireS4.9 quarts of SAE 5W-30 synthetic motor oil, though You can substitute SAE 5W-40 in a pinch. The 2.4L requireS4.8 quarts of SAE 5W-20 synthetic, but the same substitution principle applies to SAE 5W-30. These substitutions are, however, not recommended. When You use a thicker motor oil with a higher viscosity (higher numbers), You're introducing friction into Your engine. This can lead to premature wear and tear, and eventually, engine failure. Do YourseLFA favor use the recommended oil with the lowest numbers, even if it costs a bit more -- You'll thank Yourself in the long term.
