The 1.4L 4Cylinder engine of the 2015 Chevrolet Trax requireS4.2 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil. In its absence, it's possible to substitute SAE 5W-40 over short periods of time. However, this is not advisable, if it is avoidable -- especially in colder climates. Stick with the 5W-30 at often as possible. Briefly why: oils with higher numbers in their weights mean a thicker oil, which can introduce friction into Your engine's normal operation. Over time, this friction can and will cause premature wear and tear, which can lead to an early engine failure. Therefore, even if using thicker oil may save You a bit of money per oil change, You'll be doing much more harm than good over the longer term.

The recommended engine oil for the 2015 Chevrolet Trax is a 5W-30 viscosity and oil that meets the dexos1 quality standards. Another engine oil option for the 2015 Chevroelt Trax is a 0W-30 viscosity.

Anything from 0w20 to 20w50 is fine. Feel free to substitute 5w40 if you want it has the exact same cold weather performance as any other pack
