The 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 was available with three transmission options. The body code plate will let You know what transmission is in the truck. The plate is located under the passenger seat or on the front of the radiator closure panel. If You look at the top row, the 3rd set of digits will be 3 letters. If it reads DDC the Ram has A5 speed manual transmission , more specifically the New Venture Gear (NVG) 3500 transmission. If the code is DGK the truck has the 42RE 4-speed automatic transmission And DGT is the 46RE 4-speed automatic. You should change the fluid and filter in the automatic transmission every 30,000 miles. The manual transmission fluid should be inspected Been replaced as needed.
