The 2004 Honda Accord comes with either a 2.4L 4Cylinder engine, or a 3.0L V6, depending on Your choice of configuration. Each will, predictably, take a different capacity of oil. The smaller engine requireS4.4 quarts of SAE 5W-20 full synthetic motor oil, while the larger engine requireS4.2 quarts of the same. In both instances, it's possible to substitute SAE 5W-30 over the short term, though this isn't recommended unless absolutely necessary. The reason for this has to do with oil viscosity. The higher the numbers in an oil's weight, the thicker the oil. Using a thicker oil than recommended can lead to friction, which in turn leads to premature engine wear and tear. This can eventually cause the engine to fail before it otherwise would, so it's always best to use the engine oil with the lowest numbers that Your manufacturer recommends.
