Your 2008 Chevrolet TrailBlazer will come with one of three different engine options and while they all require the same oil, they'll require varying capacities. The 4.2L V6 requireS7.0 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil, while the 5.3L and 6.0L V8 variants require 6.0 quarts of the same. In its absence, it's possible to substitute SAE 5W-40, but its use is not recommended if it is avoidable, especially over the longer term. It's recommended against because the higher an oil's weight, the thicker its viscosity. This can introduce added friction into Your engine's operation, which predictably increases engine wear and tear. Over time, this can even lead to premature engine failure. Therefore, You're going to want to stick with the manufacturer's recommended oil with the lowest weight, even if it costs You a bit more per change.
