The recommended power steering fluid for the 2012 Chevy Traverse is GM Power Steering Fluid, Part No. 89021184. The reservoir is located on the passenger side of the car below the engine cover. The only time that You really need to check the fluid is when You are experiencing steering issues. To check the fluid level, let the engine cool down, then remove the engine cover. Clean the top of the reservoir and cap with a clean rag. Unscrew the cap and wipe the dipstick with a clear lint free cloth. Return the dipstick and tighten the cap. Remove it again and look to see where the fluid level is and top off as needed, if the fluid is low, make a visual inspection to locate the leak.
