EacH2006 Honda CR-V, regardless of configuration or trim level, comes with the same 2.4L 4Cylinder engine. That makes selecting oil a breeze, since all CR-Vs within the model year are the same. You'll use 4.2 quarts of SAE 5W-20 full synthetic motor oil, but over the short term, it's possible to substitute SAE 5W-30. This, however, is not recommended if it's avoidable. The reason for that is because SAE 5W-30 has an inferior viscosity at operating temperature. Thicker oil can introduce friction into the system, which causes the engine to work harder to produce the same output. This leads to wear and tear on the engine happening earlier, which can eventually cause the vehicle to fail prematurely. Even if it's a bit more expensive, You should always use the recommended oil with the lowest numbers in its weight.
