The 2012 Dodge Ram 1500's purge valve should be mounted at the rear of the truck on the passenger side on the right shock tower. It will be housed in a bracket. Often referred to as a "solenoid", the purge valve is part of the Ram's EVAP and emissions system. Vapors released by the fuel tank are trapped in the EVAP cannister where charcoal breaks them down into less harmful substances. Fumes are eventually allowed into the engine where they're burned like regular fuel. The purge valve regulates their release. If the PV begins to malfunction, it will often get stuck in the "open" position, or fail to open on time. Symptoms include an illuminated "check engine" light, reduced fuel economy and rough idling. Cost to replace on the Dodge Ram averages $100 in parts and labor.

Yes the purge valve is located on top of fuel tank 2013 Ram (RWD) 5.7L V8 MPI
I have a 2013 Ram Big Horn. The valve is not where it is supposed to be. I think maybe because it was a transitional year. It's under the battery box.
