The 2012 Dodge Ram 1500's purge valve should be mounted at the rear of the truck on the passenger side on the right shock tower. It will be housed in a bracket. Often referred to as a "solenoid", the purge valve is part of the Ram's EVAP and emissions system. Vapors released by the fuel tank are trapped in the EVAP cannister where charcoal breaks them down into less harmful substances. Fumes are eventually allowed into the engine where they're burned like regular fuel. The purge valve regulates their release.
