The 2014 Jeep Patriot has two different oxygen sensors, and they both do very different things. The upstream and downstream oxygen sensors each have special and unique functions, ensuring that the parts are not interchangeable. You'll find one under the hood of the vehicle, just beyond the exhaust manifold. The other, You'll find underneath the vehicle on the exhaust pipe, near the catalytic converter. While oxygen sensors are relatively simple and inexpensive parts to replace, failing to do so when they require changing can often lead to catalytic converter failure -- which is no bueno. In the case of a failed catalytic converter, You'll be looking at upwards of a thousand dollars to replace -- so the oxygen sensor location is critical information to have.
