The thermostat on a 2016 Chevy Colorado is located on the driver side of the engine. The easiest way to get at it is by removing the driver side front tire and pulling back the splat guard. The thermostat housing is at the end of the radiator hose going to the engine. Make sure the engine is completely cool before You even start to think about removing it. Once You have the tire off, remove the lower radiator hose and place a container below it to catch the radiator fluid. You will need some long needle nose pliers two and take the radiator hose off the thermostat housing. Now take a 10 millimeter socket attach to a swivel extension with a ratchet and take off the two bolts from the housing. Pull the housing away from the engine and put the new thermostat.

Thermostat housing location for a 2016 GMC Canyon V6 is NOT on the drivers side of the engine...haven't found it yet but the lower rad hose goes down the passengers side of the engine then seems to disappear around the rear of the engine
