The freeze plugs in a Dodge Ram 1500 will be located at the bottom of the engine block. These parts are expensive to replace because they will require You to remove the engine to gain access to them. There are some that are in the front and sides of the engine but these will also require extensive labor because You have to tear down the front of the engine. The cost for replacement plugs will range from $1000 to $1500 depending on the amount of labor required to complete the repair job. Some of the symptoms of having a bad plug are milky discoloration of the oil cap, overheating, white exhauSTSmoke, and leaking coolant. The freeze plugs are made of very thin metal and they will eventually rust out and leak if worn.
