A Dodge Ram 1500 truck equipped with A5.7L V8 Hemi engine will have the option of using either 5W-20 or 5W-30 motor oil but no matter which one You use it will have to be fully synthetic. Many owners of this truck recommended using the OEM Mopar motor oil for the best performance. This truck will have a motor oil capacity of 7 US quarts when the filter is included. The oil should be changed out in this truck between every 7,500 to 10,000 miles or every 12 months depending on which one happens first. Doing this job on Your own You can expect to spend somewhere between $40 and $65 on fluid costs.

5w30 works great an no MDS problems. My friend tested 15w40 an all went just as good, he now has 170,000 miles on it an no problems. Dont listen to all these bozos.

5w-20 full synthetic is the standard type. The thinner oil is required for cold start so oil gets to the top end faster to prevent cam and lifter wear and damage.

The ram 1500 is based on 100% synthetic oil. The 3.0L v6 engine uses the sae 5w-40 with a 10-quarter oil capacity. 3.6L v6 favors sae 5w-20 and carries 5.9 Quarts. The powerful 5.7L v8 engine also runs on sae 5w-20 and is capable of handling 7 quarts of oil.

I bought my Ram 1500 from the dealership and it had only 2200 miles on it. They were using 5W20 conventional oil and told me that and that I should continue using that. It has worked just fine.
