The average cost for a Ford Explorer water pump replacement is between $546 and $730. Labor costs are estimated between $436 and $551 while parts are priced between $109 and $180. The water pump plays an important role in Your car's cooling system and continually pumps coolant and water into the engine. Operated by the drive belt, blades on the pump allow coolant to flow into the engine. Although water pumps are built to last, they sometimes break down and require replacement. It is very possible to drive a car without a water pump. If You plan on keeping Your car, then You definitely need to have a new water pump installed, flush out the coolant system, and make sure all the coolant hoses are clean and free of holes.

The Ford Dealer gets about $3000 to replace a water pump on a 2015 3.5 ltr explorer. It books at 20 hours of labor. The parts are relatively inexpensive. The catch is if you have hi mileage. You would want to do the timing chains while the car is apart. They have to come off anyways and that takes it $4600 which is what I was quoted by my dealership in Southern California. I did it myself, for less than $500 including the purchasing of some new tools. It took me about 25 hours in total to do it myself, and I owned my own repair facility many years ago.

I've never seen anyone able to do these for less than 1500. These are the duratec motors and the water pumps are timing chain drivin. So you might as well put new chain and tensioners in it while you are in there. Around were I live there 1500 to 3500 depending on what stealership you take it to.

I just paid 2100 for mine but also had the timing chain kit put in while they were right there which I would recommend.
