Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U1504 seems to be a relatively common occurrence, especially on Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Dart models. Particularly, it refers to an implausible message length received from the steering angle sensor (SAS), indicating that it has most likely lost its calibration. Unfortunately, it's unlikely You'll be able to fix the fault without dealership intervention. If You have access to an OBD-II scan tool with SAS functionality, You can attempt calibration through that. If not, try a few lock-to-lock turns, in a figure 8 pattern (in a safe place like a deserted parking lot, of course). If these don't seem to fix Your issue, then You'll likely need to have Your recalibration done by a professional.

Negative, Nick B. Plenty of sights showing how to clear without going to the dealer. Here’s one: https://youtu.be/8zVKRRBseJg
This code showed up on my wife's 2017 Jeep Cherokee 2.4L when the battery drained and I jump started it. I was able to clear it with my basic handheld code reader after letting alternator charge battery.
