The voltage regulator in a 2005 Chevy Silverado can be found on the side of the alternator. It is usually a small plastic piece that has a few small wires going to it. The voltage regulator does exactly what the name implies, it controls the voltage that Your alternator uses to charge Your electrical system at. Usually when it is functioning properly this will be at 14.4 volts. If You notice that Your vehicle is not charging properly, or You have a dead battery then that can be a sign of a regulator problem. Usually when the voltage regulator is failing You will get a battery light on the dash of Your truck to let You know that the voltage is out of the normal range.

Wrong Mr Manny. On the 05 2500 HDs we did not have the clamp meter RVC set up. They did not do those for the HDs until 07 I think, maybe wrong there. But the HDs have them in the alternator still. 4 pin connectors sav bs only use 2 of the wires.

It is not on the side of the alternator it is on the ground cable. It’s looped through the regulator.
