When Your Ford 500 interior lights stay on the first thing that You should check is the position of the switch for the interior lights. The switch has three positions, off, on, and auto. Auto will automatically turn off the lights after the doors are closed. If it is in the on position then they will stay on permanently until the battery dies. If Your switch is in auto then I suggest checking the door sensors. If the vehicle does not know that the doors are closed then the light switch will not know to turn off automatically. If that is the case then it is best to leave the switch in the off position so that it does not turn on at all.

The likely cause of a dome light not turning off is either the dashboard light control knob being activated accidentally or a broken door switch.
