The main reason Your Honda CR-V's windows might roll down by themselves is an accidental press of a key fob button. If You hold the unlock button on Your fob, Your windows will vent, as a nifty "hidden" feature. However, a few drivers report finding this accidentally, and perhaps if You're windows are going down seemingly on their own, You're actually sitting on Your fob. There are numerous reports of this happening accidentally, some people even going as far as complaining to their dealership and to Honda. Truth is, there's not much that can be done because the issue boils down to user error. It's a feature that You may or may not take advantage of, but if You want to keep Your CR-V dry, You don't want to accidentally engage it say, during a storm.

Twice found all 4 windows open and roof open. Happened both times overnight. Honda please explain. As others here have said there is nothing in the manual to explain it. And it is not "nifty" but a pain in the neck and a way in for unwanted creatures or humans. Not impressed!

No, it’s not a wiring issue but a MAJOR flaw with the key fob. Do a search for this and you’ll see this has been going on for years with hundreds and hundreds of Honda owners. If you press the unlock button and then it accidentally gets pressed again, all 4 windows roll down. This just happened overnight, we torrential downpours and my new car is drenched!!!

Is there a “fix” that Honda Service Techs can make to prevent CRV windows from unwanted openings? Owner safety and security is a serious concern!

I get the half way venting feature. Mine are rolling all the way down and the sunroof is completely open. Keys sitting on a table each time. Has happened about 5 times now in the last two weeks. Has to be an issue with the vehicle.2019 CRv. Never happened the first two years I owned it.

I have just discovered this feature on my first Honda. Here in Canada we have winter half the year. I found a lot of winter inside my car. Yes. I'm quite sure it's user error. I carry the key fob in my pocket and buttons get pushed accidently. I believe the term is 'butt dialing'. But, to not have a way to disable this 'feature' is really foolish on Honda's side of things. My first Honda and it will be my last unless this is fixed.

There is something wrong with one of the wires leading to them, causing them to open on their own. You will need to replace the wire.

This ‘feature’ is RIDICULOUS!!! I have experienced this twice so far with my 2022 CRV Black Edition and it’s upsetting. There is no rhyme or reason for it to happen. I have even ‘tried’ to get it to work but it won’t. It only happens randomly and sometimes I’m not near the car!!!

It would be a feature if you could close them back. The inability to do so makes it a flaw.

OK, so it's a "feature." Nice. I once had the widows open for no apparent reason while going thru a car wash. Last night they were open again as some major rain moved through the area. This time I googled it and found this page. The owner's manual (page 98 for my 2020 model) does not mention it. Now that I'm aware, it won't be a problem in the future. But I should have been made aware when I bought the car.

It has nothing to do with pressing the fob. My windows and sunroof opened when I was holding the key in my hand without touching any button. I even placed a thick cardboard on the unlock button to prevent this from happening. It's still happening. And no, it is not a nifty feature. It's can wreck the inside of your car and makes your car prone to thievery.

I find that if I press the window lock button on the driver-side door that prevents the passengers from controlling the windows, it also prevents this "feature" from accidentally being triggered. It is inconvenient but solves this problem.

My CRV's windows open by themselves. I bought the car in March and it's happened several times since then. I have no garage and I'm very concerned that my car's interior could be ruined at any moment due to weather conditions. Car's are our second most expensive purchase, and if our car's interior is in jeopardy due to this flaw, then Honda needs to rectify the issue. The 'feature' should be one that can be turned on or off and on some models and years it can't. This is my 5th Honda. I've never had a problem with any of them, but I'm not going to purchase another one since Honda's not stepping up to the plate and recalling or fixing the issue.

It to the dealer. They can’t find anything wrong. Honda insists that I pushed the unlock button twice or it would never happen. This is ridiculous Honda! I have been a loyal Honda fan. Now I want a new car.My car is essentially useless. I am scared to leave it at the airport and more worried about having my dogs ride along. I took my crv in to the shop to have the services done. When I got home and tried to lock my car it wouldn’t lock or make the alarm sound. Then all the windows rolled down. I thought I was losing my mind so I handed the key to my husband and he tried to lock it and all the windows rolled down. When I took the key back to Honda service they told me the unlock button was sticking to the circuit board and there was nothing they could do but I can replace the key for $150. Honda CRV, 2019 It was determined that someone attempted to, or did break into the car with a screwdriver. The door actuator(key cylinder) was damaged causing the door to send a signal to the computer to open the windows and sunroof. I had attempted to determine when the windows were opening after leaving the car. I was never able to determine the sequence. I purchased a fob case to eliminate user error. When the actuator was replaced (~$210 USD) the problem went away. I learned to never park the car where there was a higher chance of vandalism and never park the car outside when it would rain or snow. After 2019, Honda has provided an option to disable this feature on newer models. Dealership told me for 2019 CRV this was not an option, even in disconnecting the actuator. I toyed with the idea of welding a lock over the key cylinder opening. In the end I remedied this high cost of ownership feature by trading in the CRV on a Mazda CX-5. With significant price increase on CRVs in the last 3 years, it pushed the price past my budget.

Same thing happened to me on my 2021 CRV. The dealer told me the key cylinder was damaged by an attempted break-in and this was the cause. He replaced the cylinder and charged me $1100. This is what they call "Helpful Honda." I don't have a garage. My CRV is always parked on the street. I can't afford to swap cylinders every time someone attempts a break-in. This is my third Honda. I had this happen to me. I see there is a disconnect option on a 2023 model CRV shown on YouTube. Apparently you go into Settings then drop down to windows option then there is a Yes/No option for remote window action. Unfortunately my 2022 model does not have this option. Spoke today to Honda service and all that was offered was “be careful with the fob”. They claim this is just an option for use on hot days but why I cannot find it in the manual makes me believe it is an excuse to call it a customer related use fault. This does happen to other models but on some there is a disconnect option.

We have a 2 year old CR-V (UK) and this problem of windows winding down on their own without any operation of the key fob has now happened 3 times. It's always been overnight and all 4 windows are wound down perfectly to the half way position. Needless to say since it happens overnight, they keys are not in our posession so no buttons could be pressed accidentally. Called our local dealer and they said they have never heard of this problem(???) I agree with above comments that this is highly insecure and also could cause severe weather damage. I was really surprised to see that this problem has existed for a very long time and includes other Honda models. We've never experienced this with any other car.
