There are a variety of things that could cause the Chevy HHR to crank but not start. The first thing that comes to my mind is a weak or dead battery. You could take the battery out and take it to a automotive parts store and most of them will test it for free to make sure it's good or not. Another reason for the car to not start is a faulty ignition coil. You could go about replacing the battery, the alternator and starter and would still have the same problem if the coil is bad. The coil increases the voltage from the battery and directs it to the spark plug which ignites the gas. If the coil is bad the gas could never be ignited and the engine won't start.

If your hhr doesn't get enough fuel or any fuel at all, you might have a bad fuel filter, bad fuel pump or bad fuel injection. The hhr can crank but not start without the correct amount of fuel entering the combustion chamber.

A few simple things you can look for fuel pump relay check you can switch with another one check fuses if you have starting fluid just spay a little in the air filter if it starts it’s fuel related if not you will probably have to to have a garage with a real good scan tool to check

My Chevy hhr 2008 won’t start we believe it’s the engine because our is stuck in the ignition and we tried everything to get it out. We replaced everything but the engine.
