The Dodge Ram 1500 may crank and not start due to a laundry list of common problems, but owners report this behavior in relation to issues that are specific to the Ram. Most vehicles need spark plugs, ignition coils or wires replaced under these circumstances. The fuel delivery system can also cause a no-start, especially a failing fuel pump. The battery has power, but a lack of compression and spark are preventing it from firing. In the 1500, however, the owner's manual advises a failed crankshaft or camshaft sensor may need replaced. If the "lightening bolt" symbol is displayed on the Ram's dash, the no-start is due to an issue with the electronic throttle control. Other related causes include disconnected vacuum hoses and a faulty coolant temperature switch or sensor.

When a dodge ram 1500 will crank but not start, it is likely caused by a failing starter, the alternator, or a dying battery.

If your Dodge Ram 1500 is able to turn over but not start, you are most likely dealing with a failed starter motor, fuel pump and in some cases weak battery.

A possible cause for this is a worn rotor or worn posts in the distributor cap. Pull the distributor cap and check the rotor and posts for pitting or dirt. If you see deposits or pitting either clean it off if its not too bad or replace both tge cap and the rotor. I own a 1999 ram 1500 van and this has happened to me. Van was running fine one minute and the next time I tried to start it would crank but not start. Simply pull cap and inspect.
8 wish I had the answer I have food with this truck for months probably five different times t tried everything, nothing. It just comes back on its own when it feels like it.Sometimes hours. Sometimes weeks
