It seems that the most common reason that the steering wheel control buttons fail on a 2013 Hyundai Elantra is a failure of the clock spring. The button failure might not seem very serious, but Your clock spring also runs Your driver's side air bags; to confirm, check if Your horn works. If it does not, then the issue is almost certainly Your clock spring. Unfortunately, this is not a cheap repair. It will be your clock spring that is failing. It passes all electrical connections from the steering wheel back to the steering column and beyond. It will start with a few buttons at first and over time more will have issues
