The oil type used on Your 2012 GMC Yukon is SAE 5W-30 but You can use SAE 0W-30 if You live in a climate where the temperature is below 0 Fahrenheit. The capacity on Your Yukon iS5.7 L. The purpose of engine oil is to keep Your engine properly lubricated. What it does is that it provides lubrication to the interior parts of the motor so that they can keep functioning. It also provides cooling properties so that the motor does not overheat. I would recommend to check the oil levELRegularly so that the oil level is not too low. If the level is too low then damage to the motor can happen.
