The recommended oil types used on the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 are SAE 0W-20 on the 5.3L and 6.2L V8 engines. The 4.3L V6 and 6L V8 engines need SAE 5W-30. If You happen to live in an area where the temp gets lower than -20F then You should use SAE 0W-30. Your Sierra has different oil capacities depending on what size the engine has. The 4.3L V6 and 6.0L V8 have a capacity of 6 quarts. The 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8 have a capacity of 8 quarts. Remember to check the level each week or so so that it is not too low.

I have a 5.3 L 2018 and I changed the oil out, so when I put the new oil back it only held 6 Qts. Is there two places on the oil pan to drain oil?
