Dec 3, 2022

The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 lasts around 250,000 miles with average transmission software and steering issues. At $20,025 to $40,525, it’s a decent value for a truck which combines luxury with a high towing capacity.

The cabin is very quiet and comfortable, there’s great safety technology available,  and it’s very luxurious.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Braking distances are longer than some other full size trucks, the base suspension is bumpy and the stereo system is out of date.

2018 GMC elevation package.
Great working and driving truck. Very smooth driving. Almost no blind spots. Never had a problem out of it. Comfortable seats and interior. Great for all my needs highway, gravel roads and the deer lease. Favorite feature has to be the apple car play in the radio. Also the steps in the back bumper.

Bad enough for your everyday needs.
It's an all terrain version. Just love it. Period. Leather seats, rancho shocks,Bose stereo. Towing package, power rear windows, spray in bedliner. Everything about the truck says off road. Pulls a six thousand pound trailer with a 1200 pound 6 seat side by side utv like it isn't even there.

Perfect city truck, with an occasional trip to the country
The truck has a very smooth ride, nice acceleration and braking. The bucket seats feel nice, especially with the cooled seats on a hot Texas summer day. The telescoping steering wheel is nice, you can position yourself perfectly in the driver seat. The Bluetooth speaker is nice and clear. The apple play was well, especially with GPS. The truck is too new to have any problems, I only have 21,000 miles on it.

It has tons of USB inputs and a actual outlet.
Transmission is a little clunky but I drive in manual and don't really feel it and other than that it is amazing. 4x4 works like a charm. I own the 6.2l. The Bose system is amazing. I wish it came with a heads up display and blind spot detection. A cai, headers and exhaust system has it purring.

A little about my GMC sierra
It's a very comfortable truck. The vehicle handles exceptionally well. It is a joy to drive. I would recommend this vehicle to a friend or family member. This was the first new vehicle that I have ever owned and so far it surpasses all of my expectations.

Great truck with nice technology perks
Great gas mileage, tailgate camera, heated/ cooling seats, Wi-Fi, built in navigation, tow release, tire pressure monitoring, phone access button on steering wheel, indoor technology tells you adverse driving conditions and instructs you how to handle them
accountCircle Alejandro A
The drive is always smooth no matter where I go
Gas is an issue since it is a truck of course but overall a great drive with loads of space as well as comfortability. The ac in this thing really cools out the whole car so it's nice in those summer days. If you are looking for something spacious and enjoyable to drive then look no further than this truck or any of the newer models

The Most Pleasurable Truck to Drive
This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. The comfort level is superior. The seats Contour and fit your body very well. The seats also adjust well. All of my Bluetooth from my iPhone or iPad connect effortlessly. The tailgate comes down easily with no slamming, it glides very smoothly. This truck is the smoothest driving vehicle I have ever owned. Looking inside the hood it is the cleanest vehicle I have ever owned. When I say clean I mean the way the vehicle is designed under the hood.

Dodge avenger - accident waiting to happen.
Dodge avenger has had seatbelt and airbag recalls. They say there is no fix for the airbag yet! It an accident waiting to happen. I do not feel safe driving it, especially in winter when snow and ice is a concern. The clock always loses time as well and always needs resetting.

GMC rocks you will enjoy driving this truck it will go anywhere.
Great truck will pull just about anything you want to unless you are pulling like an excavation trailer that will put it to the test. Great overall performance and reliability as well. I would for sure recommend this truck - the GMC sierra 1500 as a starter truck for the new to truck owners.

What Do Critics Say About the GMC Sierra?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 offers more carlike handling than other large trucks, with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Sierra 1500 at 3.5/5, praising the upscale cabin for the money, but doesn’t like the outdated six-speed transmission.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Sierra 1500 series a 4.3/5, enjoying the very powerful V8 engine choices, but owners don’t like the high purchase price.

What Common Problems Does the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Have?

Common problems found on the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 series include hesitation while shifting between gears, excessive noise while turning, as well as the A/C system not working properly. Overall, these problems are similar to other full size trucks, with reasonably affordable repair costs, too.

Hesitation, while shifting between gears is a common complaint from Sierra owners in the first 10,000 miles. There is a transmission software update available which improves its performance. Most dealerships will install the software for free, while some may charge up to $100.

Excessive noise while turning is another issue reported by owners at roughly 12,000 miles. The clunking noise is usually caused by a suspension issue, including loose components or worn-out joints. Getting the truck inspected will help narrow down the source. Replacing parts costs $300 to $1,100 depending on what has worn out.

The A/C system not working also shows up on some Sierra 1500 series models at around 40,000 miles. The A/C compressor wears out in some trucks as they age, and has to be replaced. Changing out the compressor costs roughly $1,200, depending on local labor rates.

There are 3 recalls on the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Series, which is average compared to other full size trucks. All three of the recalls cover the brake system. Two of them are for the vacuum pump, which GMC will replace, while the third covers braking software, which GMC will update for free.

How Long Will the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Last?

A well-maintained 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Series can last around 250,000 miles, which is slightly less than the top-rated Toyota Tundra. Regular annual maintenance costs are close to other full size trucks, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $573 per year.

As a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 reaches 100,000 miles owners should be prepared to replace the radiator fan motor for $800, the power steering hose costing $300, as well as the heater hose which costs $680.

Is the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 a Good Value?

Yes, the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 series is a good value since it holds up well over time and offers nice luxury features. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $20,025 to $40,225, making it cheaper than a Ford F-150, or Chevy Silverado 1500. When new, the price range was $29,000 to $56,300. What Colors Does the GMC Sierra Come In?

How Comfortable Is the GMC Sierra?

Passenger room is great in the front seats, while legroom is limited in the back of the extended cab. The larger crew cab model is a better choice, with enough room for taller adults.

2015: 4G LTE WiFi added to all models, Denali adds magnetic ride control suspension, stronger 6.2L V8 added.

2016: Standard Xenon headlights on all models, eight-speed transmission offered on 5.3L V8, upgraded touchscreen stereo system.

How Does the GMC Sierra Compare to the Competition?

The GMC Sierra 1500 is a very good full size truck. It offers a more upscale interior than the competition while still being affordable, making it a good choice for shoppers.

The Ford F-150 is another full size truck available in the same price range. Off-road performance is better in the Ford F-150, while the interior is more luxurious in the GMC Sierra 1500. We recommend the Ford F-150 since it has lower ownership costs, although both are very good trucks worth checking out.

The Ram 1500 is a competitor which costs about $1,000 less. Entertainment technology is more advanced in the Ram 1500 series, while the GMC Sierra 1500 has a smoother suspension on rough roads. We recommend the GMC Sierra 1500 Series since it’s more affordable to own long-term, yet both trucks are worth test driving to see which you like best.

2018 sierra with 6.2l v8 review.
The vehicle drives very comfortably. I have the 6.2l v8 and the towing capability is as good as it gets. I also love the cylinder cancellation as it saves me on gas and keep me from flooring it. Also, the 2014-2018 sierra body style is probably the best looking truck on the market.

Comfortable, reliable, family-friendly, and worth the buy!
I do not have any problems with my vehicle. I am satisfied with its performance. It is smooth, sturdy, and reliable. The inside has enough space for my whole family and I never feel crowded. There is always enough space for the feet and any extra bags or items to place around the truck even while filled. The system is easy to work around. It has the general features; GPS, Bluetooth, radio, media control, smartphone connectivity, and Wi-Fi. I like listening to my own music and having the car automatically connect to my device which makes for a more enjoyable ride. My husband and kids take advantage of this feature the most specially because they do not have to rely on the general tastes of the public on the radio stations. The features on the car have yet to malfunction which adds to its reliability. We have traveled 9 hours to Fort Worth nonstop and the car is comfortable enough to keep the kids from fuzzing throughout the whole ride. The seats do get really hot and cold depending on the weather which always makes for an interesting surprise. I also enjoy the feature of being able to control the temperature and amount of air that comes from the ac on each side of the vehicle instead of having to fight on what temperature to have it on. Even the little details such as the step on the back side of the truck that makes for easier cargo access and the smoothness of the lid are appreciated.

Occasional transmission lurch, car seat comfort, and seat belt adjustments.
Overall we love our sierra, we use this as our family vehicle and can comfortably have a car seat in the backseat without having the front seats pushed too far forward. Occasionally we notice some lurching with the transmission if the truck has not had a chance to warm up for a minute before driving. The truck is overall very comfortable. The one complaint my husband and I share is that we wish the seatbelt would adjust with the seat. My husband is very tall and I am average height so we're constantly adjusting the seat belt depending on who is driving it. We love the apple play, feel it gets great gas mileage for a truck and tows a boat well.

In addition, it is one of my favorite brands, one of the most complete and modern vehicles of the moment, it has a very good engine, good suspension, and also has very efficient 4x4 traction. 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT -- Spacious cab with plenty of power under the hood.
I have owned my 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT for a couple months now and I really enjoy it. Starting with the interior, I bought the crew cab which is very spacious & comfortable for people riding in the back. The rear seats fold up (if needed) with 60/40 split. The front seats are powered heated seats with the option of two memory settings. The center console is very spacious with a 2-cup holder, an integrated phone holder, 3-prong power outlet, 2 USB ports & 12V port. The display is a nice size for the infotainment system which allows you to utilize Android auto & Apple CarPlay. Overhead console has a universal garage door opener feature, along with a switch for the powered back window. The instrument panel is not overly clustered or lacking like I've seen in over vehicles. The exterior of the vehicle is eye catching; I have gotten plenty of compliments on how nice looking my truck is. The body of the truck has a somewhat aggressive look but also feels luxurious at the same time for a pick up truck. The 20' wheels fit nicely on the truck & help give it a nice stance. The engine has nice power to it when not towing but the acceleration of the pedal travel to engage acceleration is not the best but when you put your foot down on it really good, you feel the power from the engine. I'm really enjoying my truck and I look forward to driving for years to come.

I absolutely love my GMC sierra 1500 Denali. I didn't think I needed that level of trim, but now do not think I can live without it. The sleek look and 22” wheels looks great. The Denali also offered more paint colors that were more my style. It is an extremely smooth ride unlike many larger trucks. The 6.2l engine can pull anything. I opted for the tan leather and it looks great. The heated and a/c seats are great. The previously had a double cab ram 1500 and the Denali crew cab is so much better. 2018 GMC sierra - very reliable and comfortable 1/2 ton pickup.
It is a very comfortable drive. Cruises the highway very well and handles great. The steering is very responsive. The interior is very comfortable, has pretty much every option you can get from GMC. I have the 5.3l with the 6 speed transmission, at times it seems like it is trying to find the right gear. I do wish it had a little more power as it does feel a little sluggish from a performance side. However, I have pulled a large bass boat 150 miles with no problem so it does perform pretty well there.

A good truck with some pluses and minuses.
My vehicle is a 2018 GMC sierra 1500. It is roomy and has a six and a half foot bed which is large enough for most of my needs. The trim package of the truck includes a factory leveling kit and all black wheels and interior which I like. The tires are a short coming especially since they’re goodyears. They do not perform well in anything other than dry pavement. The acceleration is a bit “wonky”, it does not respond as well as I’d like. Handling is good for a midsize truck as well.

I have had no problems with this vehicle whatsoever. All I have done is change the oil and rotate the tires. Love the backup camera, the apple CarPlay, four-wheel-drive, courtesy lights and towing capability. Has a locking tailgate that also slowly opens.

GMC sierra 1500 slt truck.
Love the sierra 1500. It is my second time purchasing this make and model. Just upgraded to the newer model with more bells and whistles. Haven't had any mechanical issues with either vehicle. The feel and comfort of the vehicle is amazing. The drive is awesome. Would 100 percent recommend.

I love the grey interior, I was really happy when I found out they had it.
It is a very smooth truck, it rides great, very reliable, easy to customize, easy to maintenance. It is overall a great truck and I haven’t had any problems with it so far. It has been very good to me and has never failed me. The ac works great and the seats are very comfortable.

I love the features that the vehicle has accessibility to.
Great room, had availability to get 4g Wi-Fi to supply the passengers with internet which makes long trips awesome. Smooth on the road get on gas for being a truck. The driving stability is good but there is a constant issue with the stability driving indication.

Great for working construction.
I like my vehicle because it is good for my line of work. I also use it for the beach. There is not too much I dislike about the truck.

Great truck, never had a problem.
No problems. Gas mileage is not great. Love the feature on the gmc app to lock and unlock the car from my phone. Back seats fold up which is great for storage space. 4 wheel drive works great and live the step ups on the back bumper for easy access to the bed.

GMC sierra works like a truck on the farm!
Normally I drive a hd long bed Chevy diesel but had to switch to a short bed light duty gas powered truck. It is not as strong as the diesel for pulling heavy farm wagons and trailers and it does not hold as much in the short bed. It gets excellent gas mileage for a v8 engine, near 33 on the highway. It has a great sound system and a sunroof. It is more like a passenger car than a truck in ride and comfort features.

Spend the extra for the 6.2. You will not regret it.
Plenty of power. Ride is good. Love the leather bucket seats, the sunroof, & navigation system. Have been locked out of it 3 times with the vehicle running, which gm claims it cannot do. Not the most thrilled with OnStar. They are not always very willing to help.

Ride control which reduces shock when traveling over less than perfect roads.
My Denali has a 5.3 liter v8 with 455 horsepower and high pressure fuel injection. The color is silver and metallic red with a crew cab 4wd doors. The interior has an 8 inch driver display that show the relevant settings on startup. I have a Bose audio system and heated leather bucket seats. It also contains a heated steering wheel and power sliding rear windows with defogger. It has 22 inch aluminum wheels power sunroof and a trailer brake controller.

Large bed and great entertainment features.
The truck is great for trips and hauling loads in the bed. The 6.5 foot bed holds a ton of stuff. The suspension is great and the features on the inside makes it feel like a spaceship. Only problem is I need bigger back seats and a bigger engine. Overall a great truck.

Transmission problem
Looks and comfortable But transmission has lots of problems worst being that the soft ware allows truck to move while in park causing damage to transmission GM doesn’t have a fix yet

The air conditioned front seats are nice for hot summer days sitting on leather.
I love the way the truck handles. Gone are the days of having to start braking three car lengths back due to the weight of the truck, it stops like a car. I love the retractable runners, it really helps minimize the rust. I love the space of the crew cab, my passengers can be completely comfortable.
