Subaru No More
There are only 70,000 miles on our Forester but it has cost us too much in repairs and we have not had to replace the head gaskets yet.The A/C was sub-par from day one and we had O-ring seals replaced at the dealer multiple times. Recently the A/C compressor and condenser were replaced at the dealer for $2K. There is wheel bearing noise and the dealer wants $455 to replace one rear wheel bearing hub assembly. I will take it to our local mechanic instead of the dealer. The car is easily dented. We have side window wind noise from the gussets. Our next car will be a Lexus or a Toyota.

Great vehicle but a few issues
I have found the Subaru Forester to be awesomely reliable. It performs very well in the snow and overall is a very safe vehicle to own with kids. One issue I've had is the several recalls made on the vehicle that have caused us to have to take it in to get things fixed. Additionally we have had sensor issues and a catalytic converter issue.

Efficiency of oil consumption
I have no problems with my vehicle but, the oil consumption is not normal. The Subaru normal rating of approx 1qt every 3,600mi, is not normal. Maybe 1/3qt every 3,600mi is more efficient then trying to squeeze more gas mileage out of the vehicle. You are sacrificing the whole motor, creating premature replacement of parts and censors. I love my vehicle so will keep it. I will also maintain myself since I know some of these problems.

Subaru Forester: Average car with disappointing early costly repairs,
I initially loved my Subaru; however, in what I feel is too short a time I began to need costly repairs including a head gasket work costing in the neighborhood of $3,000. It was downhill from there as far as required repairs is concerned. I can't afford a new vehicle but if I could, I would not purchase another Subaru.

I like the vehicle, especially the large windows and sunroof.
The car is beginning to rust. It also runs very loudly and we have had to have a lot of expensive repairs done. On the good side I really like the sunroof and the size of the car. The seats in the back also lay down flat which is great for transporting things.
