Do not like 2018 Toyota rav4. Lots of little issues.
2018 Toyota RAV4
I just leased the 2018 Toyota rav4 in august. There are a lot of little things that I did not notice when test driving. Windshield wipers only have 3 speeds. The lowest speed is not intermittent enough for a lot of the drizzly mornings we have here in upstate NY. All my previous cars in the last 10 years had multiple speeds on the windshield wipers. Driver seat is uncomfortable after you have been in for over a 1/2 hour. The accelerator pedal is very touchy which is really bad in the snowy weather we have here in upstate New York. Everything that pertains to the cup consoles, the holder/space in the door, etc. Is not functional at all. No led lights on any of the controls on the drivers door (like locking the door,) at all. So if it is dark you cannot see those controls at all. When you turn the headlights on, the first one it comes to is the full headlights instead of the parking lights. I live in an apt complex and where I have to park, my headlights shine directly into the windows of my neighbors apartment. I have to warm the car up every morning and I cannot just turn on the parking lights. I have to flip through the full headlights to get the parking lights. Never have I owned a car that the parking lights weren't the first thing that came on. So now I have to disturb my neighbors every day when I warm the car up. The cruise control is in a very weird place under the steering wheel. Hard to find when driving without taking eyes off of the road. At night, there are no led lights on the cruise control so you cannot see it at all. Again, all the cars I have previously owned the cruise control is part of the steering wheel and not underneath it. I also do not like the way the cruise control works. I am constantly having to shut it off and then turn it back on to make adjustments. The back up camera is angled at such a way that most of the time during the day all I get is a sun glare which then renders it useless. All the other back up cameras I have had on previous cars I did not get that kind of sun glare. Seat belt constantly locks in. I will try to lean forward to check to see if anything is coming and it locks me in and I cannot lean forward to check. Very dangerous! There is something that makes a "clattering" type sound when I go over bumps. I cannot figure out what it is and no one else can either. It drives me crazy. I feel that as far as driver "comforts" are concerned that I purchased a vehicle that is 30 years old. I will never buy this at the end of the lease and severely regret leasing this rav4. Never will I recommend this SUV to anyone. I traded in a 2014 Chevy Equinox and wish I still had that car instead. This is only the second Toyota I have ever leased/owned. The first one which was back in 1997 was awful and I had a lot of issues with it three months after I bought it and it was brand new. So this rav 4 will be the last Toyota I will ever lease or own. Do not like Toyota at all now. I love my 2007 Nissan Altima that I still own. I like driving it better than the brand new 2018 Toyota rav4.
