Alex Showalter
Jun 7, 2023

The 2017 Lexus NX lasts around 250,000 miles with some relatively minor brake wear and window regulator issues reported. At $24,480 to $32,300, it’s a great value for a small luxury SUV with some reasonable ownership costs as it ages.

Cargo space behind the rear seats is limited, the touchpad controls for the stereo are annoying and the suspension is firm.

One of the best cars I have driven.
I love the car. Everything about the car is perfect. I personally have not experienced any problems with the car. The ride is very smooth. I feel safe in the car and the design of the car is very pretty. The Lexus nx is my favorite car. I have been driving this car for many years and I would not change it for another make and model.

Gorgeous and luxury model Lexus nx300h.
The car is very convenient, easy to operate, looks gorgeous & luxury. There's heat & fan under the seat. There's also safety features, sensors back & front, hybrid function to save gas by using electricity. The engine is quiet, does not make noise when turning on. However, the maintenance fee is too high.

Lexus 2017 nx turbo; AWD- great car.
Poor infotainment system that can be hard to use. Small gas tank and back seats are a little uncomfortable. The trunk operation can also be confusing to use. The blind spot monitor also will sometimes fail in certain conditions like rain, snow or when other vehicles lights shine on the sensor in the wrong way.

Lexus 2017 vehicle review.
The car drives beautifully. No issues with the car thus far. The performance is smooth, great for road trips, and great on mileage. Has great features inside like a hold button so if you are sitting at a red light, you press the hold button so you do not have to keep your foot on the break. Love this car!
accountCircle Tanzene A
The vehicle is perfect for space- it has a large trunk that can fit a ton!
I love my Lexus 300nx. It is luxurious and gorgeous (pearl white) but still takes regular petroleum so I do not have to pay for the premium. It also came with an incredible warranty that includes services for up to 45,000 miles and free car washes for life. It is leather with cooling and heating seats so a life saver for all types of weather.

Reliable, pretty comfortable, innocuous.
Actually no complaints. It is very reliable and positive overall. I might not entirely feel like it is “me”, exactly. That is my only issue with it. As superficial as it might sound, think it seems better suited to an older woman. For some reason. Otherwise it is great!
accountCircle Jacqueline H
Reliable car, dislike the minivan look on the back.
It is a great, reliable car, it runs very smoothly. I love the dark grey color that I have on mine and that it hides dirt really well. I wish it had a bit more room. I do not like the look of the back of the car. I feel the shape and trim resembles the back of a minivan.
accountCircle Kate C
Good midsize SUV with luxurious features.
No issues with the car, I wish the trunk opened by waiving the foot and that there were seat heaters in the rear seats. Lost of trunk space and comfortable leather seats in the front. Certain things the car has that do not add value include a pocket mirror that you can pull out of the center console.
accountCircle Shannon F
The air cooled seats are a "must have" Here in the desert.
The car needs apple CarPlay. The system that Lexus uses is not user friendly and disconnects my phone often. The car drives ok but nothing like my mini cooper that I had prior. The handling is not as good. The seats are comfortable but the steering wheel is not as good a quality as I had expected. The car has great reviews for reliability. The backup camera is poor quality especially for a "luxury" vehicle.

What Do Critics Say About the Lexus NX?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2017 Lexus NX follows Lexus’ successful formula of being an upgraded Toyota, with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Lexus NX at 4/5, praising the excellent build quality, but doesn’t like the frustrating Remote Touch tech interface.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the 2017 Lexus NX a 4.5/5, enjoying the high-tech features, but owners don’t like the smaller cargo space than some competitors.

What Common Problems Does the 2017 Lexus NX Have?

Common problems found on the 2017 Lexus NX include premature brake wear, window regulators wearing out, along with some paint issues on the hood. Overall, these problems are minor compared to many other compact luxury SUVs on the market, leading to lower repair bills.

Premature brake wear is the most widespread complaint on the 2017 Lexus NX, showing up in the first 15,000 miles. The front brake pads in particular tend to wear out quicker than some competitors. Replacing the brake pads fixes the problem, usually for around $250. If you need new brake rotors, they are an additional $450.

Window regulators wearing out has also been reported on some NX models at around 55,000 miles. Toyota and Lexus are known for some window switch and regulator issues as their vehicles age. Replacing the window regulator costs around $450, depending on local labor rates.

Paint issues on the hood also show up on some 2017 NX models at roughly 75,000 miles. Paint which is not properly cared for and left in direct sunlight for a long time tends to wear down with clear coat failure. Repainting the affected areas costs around $1,000 per panel, and is the only way to properly fix the issue.

There are no recalls on the 2017 Lexus NX, which is better than many other luxury SUVs. None of the issues on the NX have been widespread, or affected the safety of the vehicle, so Lexus has not had to issue any recalls.

How Long Will the 2017 Lexus NX Last?

A well-maintained 2017 Lexus NX can last over 250,000 miles, which is much longer than other luxury competitors including the BMW X3. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to some other high-end SUVs, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $703 per year.

As a used 2017 Lexus NX reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the windshield washer pump for $200, the mass airflow sensor costing $250, along with the coolant reservoir which costs $375.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is great, offering a standard 7-inch display with a knob and screen interface. Optional upgrades include a more powerful stereo system.

Standard safety technology is okay, offering a rearview camera.

Optional driver assistance features found in Lexus Enform safety connect include:

  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • Pre-collision system
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking

Is the 2017 Lexus NX a Good Value?

Yes, the 2017 Lexus NX is a great value since it is cheaper than some other luxury SUVs on the market while still offering a lot of good features. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $24,480 to $32,300, making it less than a Porsche Macan or Audi Q5. When new, the price range was $35,285 to $38,785. Depreciation is better than other luxury SUVs, losing about 7% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Lexus NX?

What Engines Come In the Lexus NX?

The 2017 Lexus NX 200t comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It produces 235 horsepower at up to 25 MPG, and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. As for performance, the NX 200t is quite brisk, capable of accelerating from 0-60 miles per hour in about 7.2 seconds.

What Colors Does the Lexus NX Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Lexus NX?

The 2017 Lexus NX is celebrated for its upscale interior, offering a driving experience that is characterized by comfort and luxury. The seats are supportive and well-cushioned, providing a comfortable ride even on longer trips. Both front and rear passengers can expect ample legroom, with the front seats offering an especially spacious and accommodating experience.

The interior features high-quality materials throughout, adding to the overall comfort. Leather upholstery, soft-touch surfaces, and high-grade plastics are used, all contributing to a refined and elegant atmosphere. The cabin is also well-insulated, providing a quiet ride that allows passengers to relax or converse without being interrupted by road noise.

The suspension absorbs most road imperfections with ease. While it may not offer the sporty handling of some competitors, it focuses on delivering a smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride, which is what many luxury crossover SUV buyers seek.

How Much Storage Space Does the Lexus NX Have?

The 2017 Lexus NX is known for its comfort and luxury, but it also offers a decent amount of storage space. Specifically, this crossover SUV provides 17.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. This space expands significantly to an impressive 54.6 cubic feet with the rear seat folded flat.

To put these numbers into perspective, in the 17.7 cubic feet of cargo area, you could comfortably fit a couple of large suitcases, a baby stroller, or a week’s worth of groceries for a family of four. When you expand the storage area to 54.6 cubic feet by folding down the seats, it opens up a lot of possibilities. You could store larger items such as a small couch, a bicycle, or even multiple large suitcases and bags for a long road trip.

VehicleHistory Image

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The first generation of the Lexus NX was introduced for the 2015 model year.

2015: First model year for the Lexus NX, introduced as a smaller SUV compared to other choices in Lexus’ lineup.

2016: More smartphone features with Lexus Enform.

2017: Standard Scout GPS Link navigation app with smartphone connectivity.

2018: Renamed to NX300, standard Safety System+, updated infotainment screen with larger display.

2019: No changes from earlier years.

2020: New driver safety features added, Android Auto smartphone integration, along with an optional Mark Levinson sound system.

2021: Auto-dimming exterior mirrors and blind-spot monitoring are now standard.

How Does the Lexus NX Compare to the Competition?

The 2017 Lexus NX is a great compact luxury SUV offering a nice interior paired with great reliability ratings as it ages, helping it earn our recommendation for shoppers.

The Lexus RX is a larger SUV available from Lexus which costs around $3,000 more. Passenger room is better in the Lexus RX, while the Lexus NX offers more agile handling through turns. We recommend the Lexus RX since it’s a more practical choice, although both are very good SUVs worth testing to see which you prefer the feel of.

The Toyota RAV4 is another compact SUV which is about $2,500 cheaper. Both the Lexus NX and Toyota RAV4 are built on the same base platform, while the Lexus NX is more luxurious. We recommend the Lexus NX since you get more luxury for your money, but both are great long-lasting SUVs.

Turbo engine and interior.
I find the car very nice and easy to drive, both brakes and gas pedal are very responsive. The turbo engine is probably more power than is needed to drive around town, but I really appreciate it when merging onto the highway with short ramps. I also find the interior (I have the black) very appealing and it hides dirt well.

No problems with the car. Expensive car maintenance. Great performance all year round and very reliable during snow season in the winter time. Has many high tech features depending on the car. Turbo feature and save a lot on gas.
My nx200t is perfect for me. Previously, I had switched from an Acura which had 6 cylinder and much faster car now, my Lexus nx only has 4 cylinder but I do save a lot of money on gas the turbo feature makes it drive faster on the road. I haven’t incurred any other problems with the vehicle, I save a lot on gas and it is a small SUV so if you have a large family I do not recommend.

I truly do believe that Lexus makes the most efficient vehicles. They can power through those tough conditions while looking good. Honest review of Lexus nx.
I have had my Lexus nx200t for a little over a year. In that time, there have not been any performance problems or reliability issues. The following are the pros about the car: Subcompact luxury SUV Edgy styling Comfortable interior Ample leg room in the back The following are the cons about the car: Infotainment controls Voice navigation system Average 21 miles per gallon Small cargo area There were two big selling points for me when I purchased this car. First, I really enjoyed the interior. It features softly cushioned seats and plenty of high-end features. Second, I was very impressed by the customer service at the dealership. There are 80 bays available to work on the cars. There are three different types of waiting rooms; sports, quiet, and general. There is a coffee bar where you can get free coffee and pastries. I also get free car washes for life. There are two downsides the car. First, the infotainment control is a touchpad system. It is difficult to predict how it is going to behave. It is also located down near the gear shift on the center console. Between these two things, it feels like a recipe for an accident if used while driving. It would be nicer if they had a touch screen option. Second, the voice navigation system has a very difficult time understanding me. I have tried on several occasions to tell it an address and it has yet to understand me and enter the correct address.

I was looking for a SUV for my family. I always owned compact cars and loved Toyota's. I wanted something more premium for my family. I traded in my Toyota sienna for the nx200t. I was thinking about buying a rav4 or a highlander but I found the nx was better. It is safe and reliable and a fun to drive vehicle. I love that the vehicle has all the bells and whistles my family needs. I had no problems yet with this vehicle and I will always stick with Lexus. I recommend this vehicle if you want a safe, reliable, responsive and fuel efficient vehicle.

How AC starts. It doesn't automatically blow air out, slowly progresses .
It performs excellent and is reliable and drives great. It has great features. It is a bit compact for an SUV, however it is larger than a sedan and quite comfortable. The main problem I find is it's blind spots and being short, makes it difficult to see through rear view window.

Nx upgrade from the is 250.
Pros: a lot of space, comfortable, drives smooth, good power, good speakers, good ac, looks nice. Cons: no seat cooler only warmer, steering alignment is off, breaks were weak when I bought it. Overall I absolutely love my car and it suits what I need it for. I carry a lot of marketing items for work and need space for sometimes large items. It is an upgrade from my Lexus is 250.

I love how smooth the vehicle drives and does well on gas mileage.
Very comfortable. Need more room. Love the features and sunroof. Easy to drive. Turns well and drives smooth. Lots of control from the steering wheel. No need to be distracted from the road. Great sos system if needed. Navigation is not the best feature.

Love the comfort of having a smaller SUV that does not feel small.
Vehicle is extremely comfortable to drive. Both driving on the road and sitting in the car. I have not had any mechanical issues or problems with reliability. When I had a flat tire, Lexus's roadside assistance came to my house and took care of everything. The features in the car are extremely user-friendly. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for comfortable, mid-size SUV.

Pros and cons of driving a luxury crossover vehicles.
Not enough rear visibility. Driver headrest not adjustable. Reliable, steady ride on the road. Spacious and roomy. Great interior and exterior. Plenty of trunk space. Dependable crossover luxury vehicle. Safety feature. Eco smart feature. Sleek in design. Plenty of storage space.

The best mid size car you will ever drive.
This car is absolutely amazing. The seats are the most comfortable seats ever. I have had 0 performance issues. It handles so smoothly and gracefully. The Bluetooth connectivity is so easy. The seat warmers and coolers are perfect. The GPS could be a little better and the analog clock is a little frustrating.

Comfortable ride with slight noise.
This SUV is a comfortable ride with leather seats that are heat and cool air controlled. There is a slight background chain noise coming from the back trunk of the car when driving over bumps and small roads. Other than that the SUV rides smoothly on the freeway.
