The Mazda cx-5 is a fabulous car!
The grand touring Mazda cx-5 is a great car. It is very comfortable with this particular model having the ability to save your seat setting which is super helpful especially if other people drive your car, never have to worry again about losing your perfect seat position! It is such a smooth drive, it does not shake or make a lot of noise and when your idling sometimes you forget the car is even on. This particular model also offers some great features like cooled and heated front seats for those scorching summer days or frigid winter ones. Overall I would 10/10 recommended this car, I have had a fabulous experience since getting it in may.

Cx5 is a must try for families and for anyone that is looking for a reliable car.
The cx 5 is the perfect everyday car. It feels very safe and stable on the road. We recently went on a cross country trip from NY to Nevada and back. No problems with the car at all. It was so reliable and the space inside helped. We were able to fit an airbed in the backseat for the long drives. The trunk was able to fit two big luggages, a cooler and a travel organizer for the trunk which held snacks and books that we needed. We got the car since we have a toddler and the car seat fits with enough space for two other people to sit in the back. Definitely recommend this car for families.

Rides like a sports car, but with more space.
I love my Mazda cx-5! It is very comfortable and I am a big guy, 6 feet 300 lbs. The ride is smooth and it handles more like a sports car than an SUV. I have the Bose stereo and it sounds fantastic. The screen and controls seemed like they might be weird at first, but once you use them they are great.

Couldn’t be happier with the cx-5.
Love it- great engine and awesome features. Very reliable and does well on gas mileage as well. Only issue is the trunk sometimes will not open if the car is already on and I'll have to turn off the engine. Overall very happy with the car and comparable features to the Audi q5 at significantly cheaper price.

Comfortable and convenient.
Really good performance. Very smooth drive. Very comfortable for long drives. Engine is very efficient. The price range was also very affordable. Very reliable and usability is simple. Connects with apple card play. Very convenient and a lot of boot space.

More features than you could ever hope for.
The features on this vehicle are unparalleled. The ease of comfort when driving and the excessive safety features make it a wonderful experience. Features such as automatic high beams is not a feature I ever consider but one I would surely miss if forced to give up my cx-5.

I really like the interior design, I think it looks very clean, modern and nice.
I really like the Mazda model I own. It has a very clean and nice looking interior, but also has a sporty appearance from the outside. I like how it connects to Bluetooth and has a lot of audio options. It would be convenient though if the touch screen would be available during driving instead of having to use the knob to adjust the stereo. So far it seems very reliable and I have had no issues at all. There is a ton of room in the car and I especially like the roomy trunk. It drives very smoothly with the brakes and the pedal being just the right touchiness.

Comfortable, reliable, cute.
My Mazda is a great commuter car. It has Bose speakers that allow me to enjoy music and podcasts. I can hear everything clearly and so can my passengers. The seats are comfortable and include heated driver and passenger seats. I have a moon roof which makes drives in colder weather so refreshing. The car handles well and makes linger trips comfortable.

Uncomfortable seat design in 2020 model
I leased the CX5 GTR 2017 and loved it, so I bought the GTR Turbo 2020 and regret it. They changed the seat design and cheaped out. The seats are so uncomfortable an hour-long drive leaves us both in pain. This was not the case in the 2017 model. I'm guessing they compromised on comfort to add cooling technology. Buyer beware

Why I love my cx-5 and the interior.
I really like the car, it is safe and the blinkers tell you when you can change lanes. The gas mileage is okay. The sound system is good. I do not like that the car will automatically break if you get too close but I think you can change it. I really like the new model touch screen.

What Do Critics Say About the Mazda CX-5?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Mazda CX-5 offers more fun than many of the other small SUVs on the market with high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the CX-5 at 4.5/5, praising the responsive handling, but doesn’t like the firm suspension compared to the competition.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the 2020 CX-5 a 4.4/5, enjoying the standard technology, but owners don’t like the smaller backseats than other compact SUVs.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Mazda CX-5 include the stereo system freezing, paint chipping easily on the front bumper, along with the automatic liftgate opening on its own. Overall, these problems are relatively minor compared to other small SUVs from the same year.

The stereo system freezing is the most widespread complaint from 2020 CX-5 owners in the first 5,000 miles. There are software updates available for the system which improve its reliability. Most dealers install software updates for free, while some charge around $50. There have also been some rare cases where the stereo system has had to be replaced, although it happens very early in the ownership experience and is covered by the warranty.

Paint chipping easily on the front bumper is another issue mentioned by CX-5 owners at around 10,000 miles. In areas where there’s a lot of rocks on the road, the bumper is prone to chips. The only way to fix the bumper is by repainting the affected areas for a cost of around $1,000 per panel. Some owners also wrap the front bumper in paint protection film for about $500.

The automatic liftgate opening on its own also shows up on some CX-5 models in the first 10,000 miles. Usually the problem is simply caused by a dirty sensor located under the rear bumper. Cleaning off the sensor fixes it. If the sensor has failed, then replacing it costs around $200.

There are no recalls on the 2020 Mazda CX-5, which is better than most other small SUVs. Having no recalls simply means the CX-5 hasn’t had any widespread mechanical or safety issues.

How Long Will the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Mazda CX-5 can last around 250,000 miles, which is only slightly shorter than the long-lasting Toyota RAV4. Regular annual maintenance costs are cheaper than other small SUVs at $390 per year, according to data provided by Repair Pal.

As a used 2020 Mazda CX-5 reaches 100,000 miles and depending on the vehicle history owners should be prepared to replace the fuel evaporative canister for $425, hood latch costing $275, along with the window regulator motor which costs $170.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is very good, offering a standard 7-inch touchscreen stereo system. Optional upgrades include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a more powerful stereo system, along with a larger 8-inch touchscreen.

Standard safety technology is excellent for a small SUV offering:

  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Lane keep assist
  • Stop-and-go adaptive cruise control
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Rearview camera
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Lane departure warning
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Forward collision warning
  • Pedestrian detection

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Adaptive headlights
  • Surround-view parking camera system
  • Head-up display

Is the 2020 Mazda CX-5 a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Mazda CX-5 is a good value since it’s a little less expensive than some other small SUVs while still having good reliability ratings. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $20,175 to $32,590, making it less than a Honda CR-V or Subaru Crosstrek. When new, the price range was $25,190 to $37,155. Depreciation is similar to other SUVs, losing about 8% of its current value per year.

What Colors Does the Mazda CX-5 Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Mazda CX-5?

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 has a reputation for being a comfortable and enjoyable small SUV to drive. Mazda puts a lot of emphasis on driver and passenger comfort, and the CX-5 is no exception.

The CX-5 features a comfortable and supportive driver’s seat with ample adjustments, including lumbar support. The rear seats are also spacious and comfortable, with plenty of legroom and headroom for most passengers. The seats are upholstered in quality materials, and higher trim levels offer leather upholstery.

Mazda has also paid attention to reducing noise and vibration in the CX-5, resulting in a quiet and smooth ride. Additionally, the CX-5’s suspension system provides a balance of sporty handling and a comfortable ride.

How Much Storage Space Does the Mazda CX-5 Have?

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 offers a decent amount of storage space for a small SUV. In terms of cargo space, the CX-5 has 30.9 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats up and 59.6 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats folded down.

Additionally, the CX-5 offers a variety of storage compartments throughout the cabin, including a center console with storage bin, front and rear door pockets, and a rear seat armrest with cupholders. The exact amount of storage space in these compartments may vary depending on the trim level and configuration of the CX-5.

VehicleHistory Image

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The second generation of the Mazda CX-5 was launched for the 2017 model year.

2015: Keyless entry and ignition are now standard on the Touring and Grand Touring models.

2016: Small exterior styling changes, more safety technology available, updated stereo system.

2017: Fully redesigned for the second generation with new technology, interior, and exterior styling.

2018: Blind spot monitoring standard across all models, more efficient engine choices available.

2019: More powerful engine in Grand Touring & Signature models, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offered, 360-degree camera available.

2020: Diesel engine discontinued, more high-tech safety features, quieter cabin than previous years.

2021: Larger touchscreen stereo, more smartphone app connectivity options, carbon edition trim added.

How Does the Mazda CX-5 Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 is an excellent small SUV since it offers a ton of standard safety technology paired with good long-term reliability ratings as it ages.

The Toyota RAV4 is another small SUV which costs around $2,500 more. Ownership costs are slightly lower on the Toyota RAV4, while the Mazda CX-5 has a more luxurious interior for the money. We recommend the Mazda CX-5 for the 2020 model year, although they are very close and it’s worth test driving both to see which you prefer.

The Honda CR-V is a competitor available in the same price range. Passenger room is a little better in the Honda CR-V, while the Mazda CX-5 offers more standard safety technology. We recommend the Mazda CX-5, yet both are worth test driving to see which fits your life better.

Mazda cx-5 wonderful vehicle.
I have not had any issues with my SUV. I love how it handles and the ride is so smooth. The pickup in speed is great. The back passenger seats give a great ride as well. The storage space is plentiful. I would buy another Mazda cx-5 in a heartbeat.

Sleek, smooth, and sporty Mazda.
Includes many features such as sport mode, sunroof, blind spot monitoring, heated seats, led lights, and chrome wheels. Drives smooth and has a fast pick up. Decent size with room in the trunk for storage. Seats go down for more room to fit things. Interior offers many features such as touch screen monitor, radio dials next to shift gear, and heated seats. Room for storage in glove compartment and center console. AWD for rough conditions.

One of the best cars out on the road today!
Mazda cx-5 with the signature trim is one of my favorite cars to drive. It has 360 camera view, cruise control that matches the car speed in front of you, and the design of the car looks so good and clean. The price is kind of pricey but I got the top trim and I do not regret it. There is heated seats for the front and back seats. The front seats have cooling seats which come in handy on a hot summer day. I haven't had any problems with the car except when I first got it, my battery was a bad one. It died maybe a month of having it. The dealership changed the battery out when I told them about it. This car is seriously a great car to drive everyday.

This is the second cx5 I have leased and couldn't be more pleased. The design is modern and stylish without taking a toll on the cars reliability. I love this car. It is got a sleek look to it, and drives incredibly smooth. For an SUV the gas mileage is not bad at all. Smaller than you expect. Expensive parts, leather is not durable, love the Mazda red, like the system it comes with, love the key fob, too expensive, the body is paper thin so do not wreck it. I like the warranty, wheels are too pricey and not worth the money, it is great freeway driving, good in the snow but again the body dents easy.

It is very comfortable and I love the turbo-engine upgrade. I also like the aggressive look to the front of the vehicle. Plenty of passenger space for four adults as well. The seats are comfortable and having seat warmers and seat air conditioning is a great addition. Negatives are limited cargo space and the infotainment system is outdated and slow.

You set the seat adjustment then save. My husband loves that he can press the 2 button and the seat automatically adjust to his personal setting.

Mazda review. I have a white Mazda and they make it super easy to lease.
Love my car. I wanted a bigger car for my siblings and dogs to have more space in the backseat. And this is perfect. My seats also fold all the way down if I have something big to put in the back, which is awesome for all my home goods hauls. Plus I just love Mazda, they’re super safe.

My red Mazda cx-5 seems like a dream car.
Mazda cx-5 has a high reliability rating and that has been true for me. My previous cx-5 needed no repairs in the three years I had it—only routine maintenance. I have found that with the newer one, my gas mileage has been higher than predicted, with a mix of highway and local driving. This car is very comfortable for a larger person to drive. I can use my iPhone for navigation and results are displayed on the car’s console where a navigation system would be. There is a dual temperature system with the driver and passenger each able to control the temperature on their side of the car. I like the locking feature which will automatically lock the doors when you get out of the car, although this can be turned off if that is not what you want. The cargo room is ample, made even more so when the back seats are folded down. My only minor complaint is that the cup holder seems to be in an awkward position.

Why I love my cx-5 and the interior.
I really like the car, it is safe and the blinkers tell you when you can change lanes. The gas mileage is okay. The sound system is good. I do not like that the car will automatically break if you get too close but I think you can change it. I really like the new model touch screen.

Fun, sporty, cute vehicle!
Very comfortable and cute. I already had a recall which is unfortunate because the closest dealership is over an hour away, but I highly recommend the vehicle. Gas mileage is not bad for an SUV, and even being a 4 cylinder the car is not slow at all. I just wish there was a digital speedometer.

Mazda cx 5... A good value for your money.
Great car with many features including safety and performance. Good gas mileage on the highway and average in the city. The interior is nice but needs more storage place. The navigation can be confusing at times. The sound system is good but it could use some adjustments on the volume.

Very happy with my 2020 cx-5.
I am incredibly pleased with my 2020 Mazda cx-5 touring. It has a smooth ride and helps me get around and through highway traffic with ease. Flipping on the “sport mode” switch is always fun. The seats are comfortable, with soft leather and a soft suede insert. It is a very luxurious looking vehicle (inside and out) for the price. I am satisfied with the quality of the microphone for phone calls (people say they can hear me better on this one than on my previous Mazda). I appreciate that it is loaded with useful safety features. I am disappointed that my touring (even with the added preferred equipment package) does not have apple CarPlay. I am also a little disappointed with the fuel tank capacity.. I could always get about 350+ miles on my previous cx-7; on this cx-5, I get to below or barely 300 miles. But overall, I am very happy with this vehicle.

This car is great for someone looking for a cheap midsize SUV.
I like the speed and handling of the car. However, I do wish that the seats were heated and that electronic controls were among the standard trim package. In addition, while I like the safety features, I feel like the blind spot detection is too sensitive. In addition, you shouldn't have to read the whole manual to find out what a certain button means when it comes up on your dashboard.

Exceptional ride and packed with features.
This is my second cx-5. I absolutely love this car. The handling is amazing on the highway. Never any fear of losing control with this vehicle. The gas mileage is amazing, I am averaging about 26 mpg. It is also very stylish and comfortable. If there was anything I do not like, and there is one - only one. You cannot open the hatchback while the vehicle is running. I am guessing this is some sort of safety feature. But now especially, when I am getting curbside pickup, it is kind of a pain to have to shut the car down so someone can throw a bag of groceries in the back. Other than that this car is perfect.

Love my candy red Mazda cx 5.
I love the color, the red is amazing. There is every option possible and even heated rear seats. I like that I can customize the lane delineator, the speed I am driving that pops up on the windshield, and that I can link my phone directly to the center console, so my phone is always available. I like that Mazda offers their version of OnStar but it's a free service. I love having keyless entry, that the headlights rotate with the steering wheel when I make turns. I think it is great on gas, and my insurance even when down when I got this car because it has a great track record. I cannot think of any negatives from buying the cx-5. But I also got to choose everything down to what color leather seats(I got the black leather).

Feeling amazing in my Mazda.
Handling with sports mode is phenomenal. Heated seats heat up within one minute. Hand dial control make a huge difference. Everything is right where you need it. Back is spacious and all three seats can fold down individually. Automatic wipers a huge bonus. Love the blind spot detection too.

A luxury feel to a more affordable car.
I absolutely love my Mazda cx-5. It has amazing safety features that would make any driver comfortable on the road. Drives are smooth and quiet making road trips even more fun! Mine also has apple CarPlay which is incredible... I recommend to anyone getting the car! The seats are more comfortable than any other vehicle I have been in. The car rides so smooth and nice it honestly feels like driving a luxury car.
