The 15 year old Ford Explorer that is truly an Explorer.

When we first got the Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition it was awesome! I loved the seat warmers and the dual option air conditioner in the front so each person could choose the temperature they preferred. I loved the second row of back seats that was easily put down for more trunk space and then back up again when we had a lot of people to transport to a game or event. Now that it is been 15 years and it is still our daily driver and most used vehicle. We use it to pull the trailer and to tow other vehicles, especially when another one of our cars had broke down somewhere. I cannot say there is not any issues with it however, the leather seats have started to crack and tear very badly, and the lining on the roof is starting to sag in the front. One of the major concerns k have about the Explorer is the issue with the a/c. It works great until you turn on the ceiling a/c for the back then shortly after doing so the air conditioning for the whole car begins to grow warm and ends up having to be turned off for so long and then put back on after a long and torturous break, which is a problem since we have 11 month old twin boys. The ride has become very bumpy compared to the smooth ride it once had. But other than that I cannot complain too much, the car is 15 years old so I give it credit for handling all it has which includes a big move across several states twice!

Best I have ever purchased.

It is a great car. Decent gas mileage for a big SUV. It has leather seats which makes it easy to keep clean. Large enough back seat to fit 3 car seats. Lots of trunk space. Very reliable. The settings on the side of the seat allow you to adjust for a perfect, comfortable fit. The car is almost 20 years old and the a/c still blows cold air likes it is brand new and that is extremely important when living in a very warm weather state. It is also very safe. We were in an accident last year where someone quickly switched lanes without checking their blind spot and hit us. Almost no damage was done to our (just some scratches about the size of my hand) vehicle while it really tore up the other car. We haven't had a single problem out of the car and we have kept up with regular maintenance.

My 2003 Ford Explorer has over 218, 000 miles on it & runs like a champ.

I bought my 2003 Ford Explorer xlt with a 3rd row and air conditioning in the back on new year's eve 2004. It had 14, 000 miles and it currently has 218, 000 miles and is running great. I have always kept maintenance up with oil changes and good tires. It has so much space for a growing family and has kept up with my big family now with 8 grandkids for more than 10 years. It does get decent gas mileage on the highway but in town, it can use up quite a bit so I do drive slowly as I can to save on gas. I have cloth seats which I prefer over leather seats with Texas heat and the cassette player still works!

Ford Explorer, the American, all purpose, sport utility vehicle.

This vehicle is extremely reliable. Good gas mileage plus comfortability is a great combination for this American made SUV. Drivetrain and transmission are very solid. In this rear wheel drive, six cylinder powered knockout, you can expect excellent acceleration with an anti-slip rear end with high performance stability. You can feel safe with your family on a trip across the country or just a night out on the town. Either way, this is a multi purpose vehicle capable of all occasions. Buy American and strengthen the American economy by enjoying this all purpose SUV, the Ford Explorer.

Perfect for families of 4

Overall it is a very nice vehicle depending upon your needs. for my family it is however 1 seat too small. if the 3rd row would hold 3 seats instead of 2 it would be perfect. interior is quite nice. the rear hatch was cracked when I purchased it and has since cracked more and i've noticed nearly all explorers of similar age have same cracks. I have replaced the engine in it twice in the past 4 years along with head gaskets, egr valves, 4wheel drive shaft and many other things. has been a big money dump but I am still sentimental towards it and in all love it for what it is.

The reliable Ford Explorer.

My Ford Explorer is a great car! It is big enough to hold up to five people which is very convenient. It is also large enough to move all of my belongings back and forth from college. Even though it is a little older, I have had minimal issues with it. The seats are leather with seat heaters and are very comfortable. The gas mileage is not horrible but would preferably be better. I did have to replace the radio system when it died but the cost was little compared to other vehicle costs. My car has never broke down and has always gotten me from point A to point B.

- Jordan P

My favorite Ford; so many features and options with this vehicle.

I really love my Ford Explorer. I bought it used, after I was in an accident. I love all the features it has to offer, even for an older vehicle. Such as the keypad on the door, because I am known to lock my keys in my car. I also love the sunroof, heated leather seats, back up sensor, dual heat, etc.. So far it has been really reliable. I have had to fix a few things on it, but it is an older vehicle. They weren't overly expensive fixes; battery, alternator, and breaks. I also enjoy being able to haul stuff myself!

I have a 2002 gold Ford explorer.

My car has lasted 15 years and my grandma bought it brand new from the dealer. It still runs smoothly and I have not had any problems with the car. My family all own Fords and we love them. Fords are reliable and good family cars. We have taken my car to many states like Colorado, new Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and if it was not a decent car it would have broken down. Let's be honest with ourselves, what car would last you that long? Most people would trade it in when their car has a problem, but not Fords.

- Emily R

The Ford Explorer lasts long, is user friendly, and takes repairs well.

My family and I love Ford Explorers! They are dependable, long lasting, and can take a nice beating especially considering Michigan winters. Only problems are the ball bearings tend to go out on them. But once fixed, they are back to new. We have had our Explorer for 10+ years (and it was used when we bought it) and it still going strong. Also, it is a good idea to secure some spare tires. They tend to be hard to find in my area. Definitely 100% recommend and will continue to stick with Ford Explorers!

- Sarah H

My 2003 Ford Explorer is awesome.

My vehicle allows you to sit up nice and high and it has a 3rd row for extra seating. It is very easy to fold down the 3rd row. It has been a very reliable vehicle. It has 228,000 miles on it and I have had to replace a water pump and a wheel bearing. I have noticed on other Explorers like this as does mine, the back hatch has cracked on both sides of the latch that opens it, but it does not make it leak. I trust this vehicle will continue to be reliable for many miles to come.

- Diane S

Great vehicle when the rack and pinion are on point.

It's 15 years old, but I seem to have a lot of issues with the power steering. Mainly the rack and pinion. It has been replaced twice in the last 4 months. The only other issue I have is that I bought the vehicle used from a previous owner and have no idea how to reset or even use the combination lock on the driver's side door. It also seems to rust quite a bit around the rear wheel wells. Other than that, it's been a very reliable vehicle, and I truly love how it drives.

- Melanie C

I only bought this gas-guzzling, out-dated, environmentally harmful vehicle as it was cheap and bought off a family member.

It's lasted 15 years, which is amazing being it's a Ford! It's actually pretty trustworthy with starting in these cold MN winters. I like the interior room, especially the back where I can store loads of camping equipment. The mileage is weak but expected of a gas-guzzler like this. And I do have anxiety every seasonal change because I've driven enough Ford's in the past that informed me that after about 3 years there's gonna be unexpected issues somewhere with a Ford.

- Jeff P

My Explore. Exactly what I need in a vehicle.

Has sealed transmission. Has to be taken to dealership to have checked. Expensive! Paint peeling other than that has been good car. The inside looks great. To be a 2003 it has aged well. I would purchase another. It has 3rd row seating that folds down for extra space. The 2nd row also folds down for even more space. If all seats are up for extra passengers the 2nd row end seats raise up to allow access to 3rd row. Which comes in handy with my grandchildren.

- Regina F

This 2003 model is comfortable, reliable, economical, looks great as well.

This 2003 Explorer sport trac has been an excellent vehicle. It has been a very reliable vehicle. This vehicle has all the bells and whistles for a 2003 model like heated seats, sky light, 4 wheel drive, ac front and back seat. This vehicle is smaller than most trucks its size which in some ways is good especially for parking. Only thing not good on this model is it should not be turned sharp at high speed. Warning is in booklet when you purchase it.

- Patricia R

Old reliable, 16 years strong.

The vehicle has held up nicely throughout the years. It's currently getting minor changes here and there due to wear and tear. The vehicle still had most of its original parts. Some of the interior needs to be replaced like the plastic part around the chair, the knob fell off. Also the passenger visor mirror won't stay closed if the visor is down. Very minor fixes aside from things like new brakes etc. Very durable car and very easy to maneuver.

Great family vehicle with plenty of room

I love the fact it has plenty of room for my family. It drives very smoothly and efficient. It has great features (heated seats, electric seats, six CD changer and mp3 hookup, sunroof, radio control on steering wheel, third row seating, towing package ECT..)The problems I've experienced are with the emission system and catalytic converter. Tires are a bit pricey but worth it because they last longer than other tires I've purchased in the past.

- Kara A

I think everyone should know that my car is very reliable.

I don't really care that its a v6 instead of a v8 I am currently having issues with the radiator overheating because of a small crack my 2003 didn't come with three rows like my 2004 my abs light wont go off even though we have installed the piece for it also it takes up more gas then my 2004 overall I think I might have bought a semi broke down truck but he gets the job done until I can get my baby girl back up an running again (2004).

- Shay I

Great vehicle with easy rides and very dependable.

My vehicle is great. A four door, three row seating and back has two different ways of entrance. Very easy and comfy rides. Feels very roomy. Love the fact that it has programmable seat settings. Only issue with this vehicle is the middle seat is a full bench so it makes getting to the third row a bit difficult especially when you have bigger kids that have to get in the back. A second row with buckets seats would be so much easier.

- Jennifer M

Solid driving experience, some electric/heating issues.

Consistent driving experience with minimal issues in the time I have owned it (several years). Issues with door ajar notice, causing alarm to go off when things shrink due to cold. Issue goes away if I turn off all dash/insight lights. Heating strength/heat is poor. Work has been done on it by previous owner, but without resolution. Forums say it would require taking off the dash to figure out/fix = expensive.

- Heather V

The Ford Explorer is a Great Family Vehicle

The Explorer seats 7, which is great for hauling kids and friends around. It also is easy to see out of and the back two rows of seats fold down to haul more things. My explorer has cushy leather seats and the drivers seat moves back when turned off to make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. The 4 wheel drive is great for powering through heavy wet snow. The kids like the sunroof as an added bonus.

- Felicia R

It has taken me the miles I needed to go and the repairs were inexpensive.

When first purchasing the car it was about being able to step up into a vehicle vs. Sitting low while driving. It definitely gave me the space for my travels. It had the leather seats for easy clean ups. Being a Ford it was quicker and cheaper to have the repairs done. It currently is a very reliable vehicle. The maintenance is keep up on the car and it is v8 so it has that take speed to keep up with traffic.

- Ford E

My explorer has never left me on the side of road, it has always got me where I need to go safely

My truck is older so of course i have some complaints but that's understandable. I love the size of it, big enough for trucking kids arounds, getting groceries and even when I need to go to the home improvement store, I have enough room. It gets decent gas mileage for an older, larger vehicle. My boys love it too, a teenager and younger baby. It is rusting quite a bit and I wish finding parts was easier

- Tami S

Has >150k mi. Needed nothing but routine maintenance and tires until 125k mi.

Pleased with the overall performance of the vehicle. Due to its age, I have been required to have it fixed several times. Brakes, replaced the rear end, replaced the starter. Replaced the battery after the starter burned it up. It is very comfortable to drive and to ride in. Sits up high increasing visibility. Has power windows, seats and a working cruise control. The ac no longer works.

- Susan D

4 wheel drive and cruise control best features.

I enjoy driving my vehicle. It has heated seats, tilt steering, cruise control, 4 wheel drive. I have put many miles on this SUV traveling and driving on the straight roads without any type of mechanical issues. The only work that I have done is mandatory oil changes and back breaks. This SUV is the first vehicle I have truly enjoyed driving. It look great, handles like a dream.

- Laraine B

Great reliable vehicle for a small family.

It is a very reliable vehicle. Perfect for a small family. Great running with proper maintenance. However with the kids getting older it is becoming an issue being a two door vehicle because the kids have to crawl in and out. However it is still comfortable to take on a long trip. Love the hatch back for groceries and storage. Feel safe in the vehicle which is very important.

- Jen I

Ford Explorer: great all around vehicle for any location.

My Ford Explorer is very reliable. It has great space for multiple people to sit comfortable, but to also pack with items (for camping or weekend trips). It has a sunroof which adds light and breeze when I do not want to use the ac. It also is compact enough that it can fit in most parking spots. I live where there is street parking and have little to no issue finding a spot.

- Allie G

Best for a financially smart consumer in search for a great all around vehicle.

It is reliable, comfortable, comes with 6 disk CD changer, rear DVD player, 2 back rows of seats that fold down, sun rook, power steering and drives like a dream. Amazing in snow, easy to turn, heated seats power mirrors, power windows leather seats with heated seat choice. Anti defrost driver and passenger side mirrors, back latch release button on remote control.

- Jason D

I love the many things around the truck bed that allows for multiple tie downs.

Perfect little truck for my lifestyle. Makes it easy to load and unload. Only problem was a transmission plug that cost around three hundred dollars to repair. Also the blinker electrical plug had to be replaced and that cost around two hundred dollars. Gas mileage is ok but not great. Love the back window that goes up and down and the roominess of the interior.

- Diana B

Love hate relationship with it

It leaks when it rains. It won't get out of four by four mode. The radio doesn't work well. The vents don't work well. The seat warmer on the drivers side doesn't work. I have gone through a lot of tires and it eats gas like crazy. I do love the way it handles the leather siesta and third row seating. I love the sunroof. I love the amount of room in it.

- Kelly G

Ford Explorer is a 6 out of 10.

The transmission can become a problem. The interior is loud when driven. It is comfortable, but it could be better and more reliable. Performance is a 6/10 in my opinion for the year and model I have. The Audio system is not the best. Power windows wear out fast. Sometimes I wish it could have less problems and stay being perfect and less problematic.

2003 Ford explorer customer review!

We bought it used in 2014, since we have had it we have replaced the struts and fixed a couple small problems. We have replaced a small gasket as well. It is an all wheel drive with 3rd row seating. The 3rd and 2nd rows of seats can be closed completely into the floor for large storage. It gets about 19 mpg. Which for such large vehicle is awesome!

- Brandy S

Ford Explorer : Great small SUV, especially for soccer moms

The Ford Explorer is a really great small size SUV, I'm a soccer mom of 4. It's great for kids and groceries all at the same time. It has held up for me really well, as long as you keep it properly and timely maintenance. It's also 4 wheel drive so when the winter season comes we are never stuck anywhere. I greatly recommend this vehicle to anyone.

- Maranda B

I wholeheartedly recommend the Ford Explorer.

I love my 2003 Ford Explorer. It is really comfortable to drive and sits high enough that I can see other vehicles around me clearly and easy to park. I previously owned a 1996 Ford Explorer and really enjoyed it also. My husband, son and mother also drive Explorers. As far as SUVs are concerned I would most definitely recommend the Ford Explorer.

- Karen R

Completely automatic, leather seats, sunroof.

Overall, I truly love my vehicle. However, the ac goes out often and the brakes need to be changed frequently. But for being 16 years old it runs really well. It is completely automatic and power everything. I love that my seat moves automatically into the correct position when I turn the truck on. Wheel bearings have to be replaced frequently.

- Jennifer S

This vehicle gets poor gas mileage which can add up significantly to the yearly operating cost.

I like my ford explorer because it's simple, effective, easy to work on, has parts available, and is cheap to maintain. My vehicle model has leather seats, nearly power everything, and drives well. I do not like the v8 model or AWD feature as I get poor gas mileage and AWD was not necessary. In the future, I will not get an AWD model vehicle.

- Ryan D

MY EXPLORER IS WONDERFUL!

I like that it can carry a lot. I do craft shows so it is easy to fit all the items I need for shows in it. It is also nice that a lot of garden items (mulch, plants etc) fit in it so it cuts down on the number of trips I need to make to get everything I need home. I like that it sits up higher than a sedan so I can see traffic better.

- Susan A

My 03 Explorer adventures for the last 15 years.

After the normal wear and tear the heating and A/C stop working in 2017 and then in 2018 brake fluid started to leak. Later, on the steering column was cracked. This vehicle is still my go to vehicle for long distance travel. For I drove to Texas, Georgia , and Kentucky in multiple years with no issues and the gas mileage was very good.

- Joe R

Great vehicle couldn't quite make it to 200,000 miles.

I bought my explorer in 2002. It has been an amazingly efficient vehicle for my needs, driving around the country, from Florida to Washington state. It has, however, seen it is last days. The transmission went out in it a few months ago, and I have been limping it around town ever since. Time to purchase a new vehicle, sadly.

- Tom H

Ford explorer, unlimited possibilities.

My vehicle has been good for many different uses. I have moved with this SUV four times with little difficulty (it fits my whole queen mattress!). The space in the back is perfect for outdoor gear and the car does well when I travel out of the state. However it seems to need upkeep fairly often after 16 years of driving it.

- Christopher A

Ford explorer XLT personal experience.

Very reliable except for the hinges on back lift gate window. Had to order and replace the bolt and plastic hinge brackets a couple times. . As far as replacing the liftgate shocks I have had no problems at all besides the usual battery and alternator. . Still running at 150,000 miles on original engine and transmission.

- Eric K

2003 Ford Explorer with 150,000 miles.

Very reliable. Currently have 150,000 miles on mine and it runs beautifully. I love having the option to put up a third row of seating. Having four wheel drive is wonderful as I go camping every summer. The only thing that takes some adjusting is that the handles to open the doors from the inside is down by your knee.

- Eden E

Reasons why I love my Ford Explorer.

This has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I have been driving it for the last 12 years and I will be sorry when I have to get rid of it. I have every intention of driving it until it dies. It has been excellent on performance and has had very minimal maintenance problems since I purchased it in 2006.

- Sherry B

Decent vehicle for the year and price.

A decent vehicle, a lot of rust damage from being in NYC area. Starts every time and this is cold country. For a SUV handles well on in the snow and ice of Montana. I am happy with the purchase even as used. I would have looked closer at the rust issue as this is a issue that is going to take some work to correct.

- Michael R

It's a very dependable vehicle.

I really haven't had any major issues, aside of replacing the catalytic converter. It is just been run of the mill normal things, brakes, exhaust, regular maintenance. I do enjoy my vehicle, it is been very dependable. I live in New England, the winters can be very hard, but this truck is excellent in the snow.

- Laurie G

nothing special with my car

doesn't run great. Things are looking and my check engine light is always on. My break like is on as well. I don't think my muffler works correctly either. doesn't run great. Things are looking and my check engine light is always on. My break like is on as well. I don't think my muffler works correctly either.

- Jordan R

Sage green ford explorer. Easy to change the stereo to add Bluetooth.

No problems. Very reliable. Gas mileage is not the greatest but it also is not the worst. Very comfortable and roomy. The only thing I do not like is how much it cost to replace a key if you lose a key. Has electric seats, heated seats, steering wheel control, third row, sunroof, pedals move, automatic lights.

- Melissa T

Great camping car for family outings or friends going out.

I've had my car for 5 months now and it has been a very reliable car, comfy for everyone in the car, feels so safe on the road, lots of space in the back to go camping, hiking, fishing there's even space to hook up stuff on top like a small fishing boat. But I would like for it to have more electronic stuff.

- Michelle M

Timeless traveler with mild baggage

Some of the nice features of my car includes leather seats, it rides smoothly, and it is timeless in appearance. Unfortunately my vehicle has had quite a few recalls which includes them being associated with the motor and the airbags. This car also uses up a fair amount of gas however it gives good mileage.

- Ted D

Love all the little things.

I love that it has the feel of a pick up truck, and a regular Explorer. I like that it has a connector in the back of the truck in the cab to plug in things like you would the lighter in the car. I like that it has running boards to help me get in the car. I like that it sits high so I can see ahead of me.

- RHonda H

Shes definitely a trooper

Ran great for 175,000 miles, dropped a new motor in which now has around 45,000 miles on it. Electrical system has a short in it for many years, random alarms and inside lights sometimes work, sometimes don't. Very comfortable to drive or lay in. Even with its problems I'd still recommend it to everyone

- Danielle P

Car? Suv? Truck? Explorer sport trac is all of the above!

This vehicle goes everywhere and carries most everything. As a sport-trac, it seats four each with their own door, or has great storage within. Beyond that, the truck bed holds more than one would think, and the towing capacity is amazing! It has all the neat features and gets great gas mileage as well!

- Deb D

If I can have a car forever, I want it to be this.

I love my big blue! I have had it for about six years and never had any big issues with it (that wasn't my fault). It currently has 193,000 miles on it and I'm just starting to see a few problems. The AC just went out and the radio has its days but it still runs just as smooth as the first day I got it!

- Lauren G

My car the great keeper jasmine.

There was really no big issue when I got it had less than 50, 000 miles on it, it rides real well, on the road and where I live at we have a lot of potholes you can't hardly feel them at all, it a 4 door, it has a sunroof on it too, the air conditioner was not working well so we had to fix that issue.

- Ryan G

Its too big and has bad ac!!

It's just a slinky car. I don't even drive it I am still learning. Its bulky and I feel like I am in the FBI. Our windows don't roll down anymore so we cannot get cool air all the time. The ac sucks because of how small the car is. You could definitely food the back seats down and make a bed though!

- Bella P

2003 Ford Explorer is consistently having problems.

Since my vehicle is a kind of old it has quite a few problems. I just recently had a new transmission put into my car. Also, every few months I have a minor or major rear differential leak. I know a few people who own Ford Explorers and they also have quite a lot of problems with their cars too.

- Alyssa J

Part SUV and part truck. Perfect!

I love my Explorer sport trac. However, it is 15 years old, and I am worried that I am going to be stranded soon due to a leaking cooling system. I cannot afford a new car. I love my truck, and it was my first fully owned vehicle, and would not trade it for the world. Part SUV and part truck!

- RHonda H

Ford explorer - I love mine:).

My vehicle is a 2003 so it does need to go into the shop more but overall I love my ford explorer. It is spacious and in my opinion the gas can last long. I think it runs really great on the highway when having to go 70--80 mph too. I love the stereo system and the overall feel of the car.

- Kay K

Spacious and dependable since I have owned it.

So far just your basic issues, brakes, heater, new tires. I love the truck because there is lots of room and it is an SUV. Very comfortable good on gas mileage when you keep up on tune-ups. Has cruise control which is great for long trips on open highways. All in all just a great truck.

- Sheri T

Ford explorers are a smart choice for reliable vehicles.

I like a bigger vehicle that is higher up and more secure feeling. The extra space comes in handy at times. Being an older vehicle, though, I do wish it had the features of newer models. I would love to have built in navigation, Bluetooth connectivity for my cell phone and backup camera.

- Lori W

Rear window panel may crack, and transmission may go bad.

Decent vehicle with good engine power. Transmission failed and repaired when still under warranty. Rear window panel constantly cracks and Ford will not recognize this is a defect since safety of vehicle is not compromised. Gas guzzler. Wish I opted for third row seating when purchased.

- Ward Q

Best car ever!no problems ever!

The best car ever. I have no problems with it ever. Transmission is a little weird, but nothing I cannot manage. Good on gas and heat and air. My kids and husband also love it. Great on space, chairs and trunk as well. The third row is perfect for a bigger family. Mines has on two rows

- Jessica S

I love how high it is and that its big enough for me. Its not too small

I love my car because it's paid off and even though it's old it has taken me a lot of places. I can go fast and over bumps. It's a perfect size to fit people in. It has a big trunk that I can fit in a lot of stuff as well. I love my car and hope it last me longer than it has already

- John J

Have been pleased with vehicle and would consider purchasing similar vehicle in future.

Overall a good vehicle own for approx. 10 years with only minor problems which include replacement of wheel bearings normal parts such as brakes ,alt. And belts and hoses. Had to replace rear lift panel on hatch and was told by body shop this very common replacement for this vehicle.

- Tom W

2003 Ford Explorer with higher mileage.

This is a dependable vehicle. We currently have over 155, 000 miles and it still drives great. It has a ton of space and works great for hauling large items. Few cosmetic issues with rust and seat handles breaking. Has required some maintenance, but its expected at the high mileage.

- Pamela H

Pros and Cons on my vehicle

Runs well but is not good on gas especially within the last few years. Tires have been replaced at least 3 to 4 times. My air conditioner does not work very well especially in this heat which is currently in the triple digits. Radio works but CD player gets stuck when ejecting a CD.

- Rosa H

Love the vehicle. I will purchase a more updated Explorer.

The vehicle has been very reliable and has really gone the miles. It has a good amount of space for traveling with a family of 5 plus grandma. We have had to some work over the years and have keep up the maintenance. Entertainment is not the greatest but it has radio and Bluetooth.

- Sledge S

I really enjoy having four wheel drive.

My Explorer is a very good handling car. The seat is elevated so one can see what is going on. It does have radio and a CD player. The only fault that I have with my vehicle is the mileage--over one hundred forty thousand miles. I enjoy having four wheel drive especially IN winter.

- Dale B

Room for family vacation. Very roomy with plenty of room for people and luggage.

3 rows of seating, 3rd row easy to fold down for additional trunk storage. Back seat air conditioning. I love the look of this vehicle. Drives smooth. I have not had any problems with this vehicle. Back seat cup holders. Auto on / off lights. Plenty of legroom in front and back.

- Cindy S

It has the ability to use as a work and towing vehicle.

My ford is an older model but just last year we had to have the transmission rebuilt. However I use it a lot for hauling stuff and pull my trailer for lawn care business and rental work. It has over 200,000 miles on it. So I guess with regular repairs it has been good overall.

- TINA C

Nice reliable car. Have had about 16 years

Back hatch cracked in almost all models, window in hatch does not work. I like third seat except hard to climb in. Seat belt hook up for car seat is very hard to use. The seats are comfortable. Leg room is good in front. The pockets on back of seat are great for umbrellas etc

- Tara L

Reliable Ford Explorer for family of four.

It is reliable. Takes like $48 to fill up tank and have to do that once a week. It has plenty of room for our family of four. We like that the backseat has its own air conditioning vents for the kids since we live in Arizona and it gets really hot. The CD player doesn't work.

- Mackenzie L

Comfortable car low maintenance.

It is big enough to haul things and comfortable to drive and sit in the back. . High enough to drive through snow and be able to see (not sitting low) mileage isn't great but I still like the car. I have not had big problems with the car just normal oil changes and new tires.

- Sharon B

Family car great for camping.

I like my car has been a great family car for many years, it has the third row option which helps when needing the extra seats for kids and friends. Great gas mileage and plenty of room to sleep in for camping trips, even though it is a 2wd it handles wonderfully in the dirt.

- Helen H

Love my vehicle sums it about up

Really have nothing bad to say about it. Love everything about it. Only really issue I have with my vehicle is that the back hatch somehow holds water and everytime I open it it leaks out. But other than that it's been a great vehicle. Looking at buying a new one soon.

- Leanne B

Has a lot of space. Of it wasn't for the leak it would be the perfect car for me

I love the space it helps alot especially being a teen Mom who is still in school the space really comes in handy. I enjoy using the sunroof. It's the only car I've had so far but sadly it does leak a lot when it rains and it's been needing to go to the mechanic more often.

- Lucero C

Just a general Explorer, no bells or whistles.

I find my Explorer to be a good performance vehicle and very comfortable. No real issues and no real problems with this Explorer. This is my 2ND one I have bought and recommend to others. With regular maintenance, these Explorers last a long time and are easy to maintain.

- Carrie V

Take a look at the 2003 Explorer.

Very reliable, ride is tight like a truck but not uncomfortable, good load capacity, gas mileage is approximately 17 city, 19 highway, steering is tight so it is very responsive, good farm vehicle, it is 2wd so do not use off-road much but drive through pastures when dry.

- Rod B

The Ford Explorer is a great dependable car that will last a long time.

It's easy to drive. It handles good. The engine runs so quiet that sometimes I think the engine has stopped. The 4 wheel drive is strong. Problem is an oxygen sensor that keeps the engine light on, but it doesn't seem to affect anything. The body is starting to rust.

- Sherry W

Reliable good driving vehicle.

Very reliable. 200, 000 miles plus. The only problem I have had is the 4 wheel drive going out and the passenger side window doesn't roll down. If I buy a different vehicle I would buy an Explorer if possible. I bought it used 4 years ago and it has been very reliable.

- Paula W

How I love my Explorer sport.

It is comfortable, reliability is great, comfort is great and it has heated seats, and running boards are standard. I have had it 8 years and I have only put a battery in it and an alternator. It gets good gas mileage and is very comfortable to ride in and to drive.

- Debby H

Reliable, comfortable vehicle.

I received this vehicle after the original owner had passed away. He took very good care of it but it of course I have had to have some repairs and new tires put on, which come with that old of a vehicle. I am planning on purchasing another Explorer down the road.

- Jamie M

The Explorer that does it all.

The 6th cylinder is broken in the car. Which is fine because it is a V8. The car has no AC. The car is very reliable for the most part and is quite comfortable for how old it is. It has a sunroof that is very convenient since some of the windows don't roll down.

- Alex R

Ford explorer family vehicle.

I love the third row seating for my family of five. It is kind of hard on gas though as with any full size vehicle. To say it is a sixteen years old vehicle it is performance is pretty good. I have had no major work done in the two to three years I have owned it.

- Christina H

Get me where I need to go safely. The 4WD is awesome.

Well it's not really a Ford but you didn't have another option". I have a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer made by a Ford factory. I love my 4wd. The third row is hard to get to but necessary as I have 4 kids, 3 in car seats. It does great in all weather. It sucks in gas.

- Chelsea S

Rebuilt title. Cheap transfer.

Runs great. How great gas mileage. Very clean and nice. Very good cool air conditioner. Been involved in small accident minor damage but no effect on it runs and drives like dream. Plenty of room seats up to seven passengers. Silver color with dark grey interior.

- Mary K

am using a red leather with black lines for interior design and my car colour is black

am using a suv, for my personal and business. this ford model helps me fully for my family. am able to carry out all the works. dropping kids, going to work. the performance is so far good. the only problem it gives less mileage. the comfort and safety are good.

- raj s

Great family car, great to go out and explore on a camping trip.

The car has enough space to fit the family and even pets. Its is comfortable and smooth ride, however it is a bit expensive on gas. My car has shown to be reliable and has little to no problem as long as I keep it well maintained with check ups and oil changes.

- Selena M

I like the bench seat in back.

I really like this vehicle.. For a two door it is very roomy. Runs great dependable and good on gas. Trunk is easy to access also has lots of room for a small vehicle. Dash is very easy to read bri g ht and easy to navigate. Dash alerts you when problem exist.

- Maureen E

Never had an issue with vehicle in the 7 years I have owned.

Very comfortable vehicle. Affordable in gas. Owned vehicle for 7 years now have not had any problems with. Tune up gets done every 6 months or so. Wonderful to drive in. Only. Issue it is reduced space for a family of 4, but still will not trade for anything.

- Felix A

It's a V8 so it uses a lot of gas. It gets about 14 mpg.

I like our Ford Explorer because we do a lot of off roading so It's clearance makes it a good car for our family. It also still runs great, even after 150,000 miles. I wish the back seat was bigger and that it had more AC vents in the back for my toddler.

- Mariah P

Our explorer has been a good reliable family car.

We have loved our Explorer. It has been a very reliable vehicle. It has had very few problems and none of them have been big or expensive. We have almost 200,00 miles on it and we were just able to take a large family trip in it with no problems at all.

- Natalie E

Great SUV for people who want a automobile that reliability and dependable.

My ford explorer performance V6 os awesome. Very reliability as long as you keep up the maintenance. The seats are very comfort for the family members that are going for road trips or take care of errands. What more can I said it great small size SUV .

- Harold J

Ford reliability that takes you where you need to go.

Cruise control, cloth seats, tinted windows, automatic windows and doors, reliable vehicle that gets me where I need to go. CD player, white truck gets me lower insurance rates, cloth seats are comfortable. Back bed of truck offers lots of haul space.

- Mandy H

Fun drive in winter and summer.

My Explorer has been real reliable for me.. Easy to haul small loads and easy driving in the winter. Not many things have I had to replace, mostly oil changes. The four wheel drive in the winter is great and be able to see sitting higher up is great.

- Sharon B

It works and is okay for now.

I like my vehicle because I was basically given it by my grandparents. It is old but still runs okay. It has virtually no technology except a radio--no navigation, bluetooth, etc. But until I graduate college and get a job it is all I have got.

- Chris W

Do not buy a 2003 Ford explorer. Worst year for this make and model.

Closed transmission. Too many problems with components, torque converter blew in the transmission, had to have it rebuilt. Catalytic converters clogged had to have replaced, o2 sensors and mass air flow sensor had to have replaced several times.

- Jennifer T

This car is perfect for taking groups. I can fit 8 people in my car for the trip. If you like camping this car was also built just for you. truly a great vehicle.

The car was passed down by my uncle when I turned 18. It has to be one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever used. It needed some work but it has never failed me. Such a smooth drive as well and the handling is top notch. I love this truck.

- victor M

2003 Explorer is definitely Ford Tough.

I love my 2003 Ford Explorer. It can tow 7800 pounds compared to the newer Explorer which only tows 5000. This vehicle travelled 250,000 and now needs a new engine. If anyone is lucky to still own this model, it is well worth to fix it up.

- Shirley P

I think the ability for it to be an affordable truck when it comes to gas.

The ford explorer is a really dependable truck. I really enjoy how roomy it is and how much room I have to transport things from place to place. Since the engine is only a V6 it isn't as much as a gas guzzler like other trucks on the market.

- Lee G

Dependable, no nonsense vehicle.

Have had vehicle since 2003 and have had no major problems. I love the performance, liability and comfort of vehicle. My vehicle has no added features. I regularly take in for normal tune ups an oil changes and it is still running great.

- Yolanda H

MODEL HAS TRANSMISSION ISSUES...IF NOT ALREADY REPLACED MAY HAVE TO KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE IN FUTURE

I REALLY ENJOY MY VEHICLE IT'S JUST THE RIGHT SIZE FOR ME. THE ISSUE I HAVE HAD IS THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED (IN RESEARCHING SEEMS TO BE A CONSISTENT ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL) BUT THANKFULLY THE LOT I BOUGHT FROM PAID FOR LABOR.

- REBECCA R

It is just a wonderful vehicle. I love that all my family can fit into it. It can fit my family of seven quite comfortably and they love riding in it.

I love how it drives smoothly. I also use the vehicle for a family outings. I dislike the fact that the it uses so much gas. It is an older vehicle so I have to keep getting it serviced. Other than that, it's a good vehicle overall.

- Rachelle T

It is well made by a company that stands behind their cars. It is over 15 years old and is still powerful and efficient.

It is rugged and powerful, always ready for an adventure. I feel safe in my Explorer and know that it is part of America's rich history of automobile production. I respect how the Ford company was founded and am proud to drive it.

- Joni P

Explorer love or hate it. the good the bad the ugly

A great car. The hatch has an area that cracks. if you want this car you will have to deal with it being cracked. Also, these cars are known for their transmissions going out. mine went out at 205000 miles. so, i cannot complain

- Andrea D

This is the most dependable vehicle I have ever driven!

The car is great. The only issue we have had so far was the battery. We bought the car used with 100, 000 miles on it, with a four year old battery. The car is spacious, comfortable, and reliable for school, work, and errands!

- Cady V

This car drives very smooth. As long as the radio/cd player is working, it's a fantastic vehicle!

It's an Eddie Bauer so the seats are quite comfy. The speakers are great. Two negatives would be the sunroof and the 6-disk CD player. The sun roof does not even work at all anymore. And the radio/cd player is hit and miss.

- Jessi J

The Highlights of the 2003 Ford Explorer

good reliable vehicle, solid body which gives good protection, rides stiff like a truck but not uncomfortable, handles very nicely, good for hauling light loads like a boat or small to medium trailer, 17mph city 19 mph hwy

- Rodney B

It's a very reliable car to have.

The truck never gives me any problems. I am always happy driving it. I can always connect something in the back and pull other cars. It has four doors so I can have my friends with me. My dog loves to ride with me.

- Daisy Z

That it runs good has plenty of space and will get you and your family where you are going.

I like that it has a lot of room for passengers and cargo in back but I would like it to have leather and better features like rims and better radio instead of stock but it runs good and hasn't broke down on me.

- Sergio V

4 wheel drive and spacious cargo area

This vehicle is a great for off-road adventures like camping or fishing. For me, the best features is the 4 wheel drive, 12v receptacles in the rear, and the cargo space for when my family of 4 go on adventures.

- John W

it's depend ability, and great on gas seats 8 to 9 people with lots of room for the passengers or for hauling things

runs like a champ, love the color, roomy, 4 wheel drive, can hold up to 9 people comfortably. Needed just normal things for inspections, brake pads stuff like that and have had it 3 years, and bought it used.

- Fran C

It is a nice size and has 3rd row seating. It also has a good stereo system and a DVD player.

A really nice SUV for it's age. It has 257000 miles on it. The windows don't roll down but the sunroof still works. I have had problems with the thermostat and I had to replace the front differential.

- Karen D

It's comfortable and does what I need it to do, it's a good reliable car

My car is older, but it does the job. It gets me from point A to point B, and has all that I need. It has had some problems with the air conditioning and axles, but it's been more reliable than not.

- Lindsay T

The one thing I think others should know about my car is that if you keep up with basic maintenance it will last a long time with no problems.

I really like my ford explorer. It is easy for me to drive. I am a short person and it is hard to find a car I feel comfortable driving. I have had it a few years and have had no trouble with it.

- Pamela M

I have third row and four wheel drive

I bought this suv used and I feel I got a great deal. I have had to repair the radiator and thermostat in the past year in addition to some regular maintenance. This suv is great for our family.

- Nicole S

It just got a brand new transmission put in a few months ago.

I like bigger (SUV-type vehicles), so I feel really safe driving in my vehicle. I have an older car, so problems arise more often than with a newer car. I do wish that I had better gas mileage.

- Alyssa J

That it is still running well despite being an older vehicle. It's reliable and unexciting.

I like that it is reliable and hasn't broken down. There are a few design flaws that I don't like that has required me to do extra maintenance on my vehicle. I wish it had better fuel economy.

- Nick S

It has an electric brake control unit for pulling trailers equipped with electric brakes.

It is a crossover pickup truck and sport utility vehicle. It has four wheel drive, a nice box for carrying rugged supplies but a smaller motor so more fuel efficient than the full F 150 model.

- Arnie J

Need new car its slowly falling apart

Check engine light is on,oil pressure needs to be fixed. Air conditioning needs to be fixed. Tie rod has fallen off and have had problems with the engine. It's old we need a new car lol

- Caitlin C

White Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Tan interior.

I honestly haven't had any problems with my vehicle. It has been very reliable. It I relatively comfortable. It could be a little larger. There is plenty of storage space in the back.

- Amanda H

The back air vents do not blow enough cold air to cool down rear passengers.

I dislike that it is an older model, I would love to be in a newer model and I dislike that the air conditioner is not very powerful. I love everything else about my Ford explorer.

- Leigh A

It is versatile and provides a safe, comfortable ride.

I am an SUV person. I like large boxy looking SUVs. I don't have any real complain other than my car is getting old. I wish I had some of the bells and whistles on my old car.

- Lyn W

The space is great for a big family or dog owners.

I like the space and the comfort for people riding with me, I do not like the gas mileage that it has. It drives smooth and brings me comfort since it is a somewhat big car.

- Selena M

It is great for a first vehicle.

I bought my Ford Explorer Sport-Trac used. it had 130,000 miles on it and still runs great. There have been a few minor fixes needed but other than that it's a great truck.

- Tristan C

Nice ride and great visibility

Overall very pleased with the performance and the reliability. I have found the seats and the ride comfortable. I appreciate the visibility to see the traffic around me.

- Patti H

People should know that it has four wheel drive and is a fun car to drive around.

My car is very reliable and has a lot of space in it. I like that I am able to raise the back seats if I need to but I can also put them down and have a lot of trunk space.

- Sydney P

I use my truck to go places with my family and it's really comfortable and has a lot of space so my family doesn't feel like they are sitting on top of each other!!!!

I have to say that I love my Ford explorer. It's been very reliable and I don't have anything bad to say about my truck. It's very nice on the inside and I love the space.

- Ashley B

It is dependable, lots of leg and head room. The cargo area holds everything I need for long trips

There is lots of legroom, it is dependable, lots of cargo space. I had my first Explorer for 15 years with minimal maintenance, my current one I have had for 16 years.

- Martha F

The one thing that is most important to know is the long lasting performance of my Explorer.

I like my vehicle for many reasons. The top reasons are the styling of the interior and exterior and overall performance. I also love the cargo space my vehicle has.

- Amy F

It runs great, always starts and low maintenance.

It runs great and has a smooth ride.. Love the size of it.. Low maintenance.... No complaints!.. The vehicle has not require much maintenance for the past 15 years..

- Donna C

The ford explorer is a great vehicle for families, not small, but not too big.

It has plenty of room for my kids and gear. It has plenty of power for any activities i want to do. It is old enough that i don't worry about my kids messing it up.

- Matt C

Reliable, smooth ride, good mileage to the gallon.

I like the room it has inside. I really, like the sunroof & that the rear back window goes down. Gets very good gas mileage.. Dislikes: wanted a full size truck..

- Debbie S

Dependability and durability and that is tough enough for anything you give to handle. From going up to the mountains to everyday driving to work or going to the local lumber yard an picking up wood for you next project

First its an american vehicle from and american company. It's an SUV big enough for our camping trips and big enough to pull a trailer and it's still going strong

- bob f

Needs lots of work after 100,000 miles. Suspension being the major problems

I have had so much suspension work done on the truck it's not even funny. And I just drive in the suburbs, you would think I'm off driving in fields every day

- Kelly H

Explorer features include the following great qualities to mankind. . .

Amazing car, roomy, comfortable, lots of features, very reliable, no problems! Amazing for family and friends and great for carrying large packages for work.

- Nik N

If you bring in trash take it out and rides aren't free also no smoking and always always clean up if messes are made

It's a great truck but the fuel filter Is becoming very rough also the transmission is slipping hard all of a sudden but it's been a good vehicle otherwise

- Samantha F

It has over 300k miles, running great and still has its original transmission.

Likes: the power. The 4 wheel drive. The color-green. It roomie for a small SUV. Have the ability to make repairs. Dislikes: it is lite in the rear end.

- Frank N

Runs great has new tires new brakes.

It is a 2003 it is old truck but works great I do all work on my truck from the tires to the brakes all new pads. Only needs paint job. I love my truck.

- Valerie N

2013 Ford Explorer Highlights

The vehicle runs like a top. Gas mileage is pretty good. There is plenty of room for hauling things and passengers. All and all its a nice vehicle.

- John F

It takes a lot of gas to fully fill up this truck. $54 every week.

My family has had this vehicle for 10+ years. Other than some minor installation issues it's still running fine. It does eat up a lot of gas though.

- Samantha B

2003 Ford Explorer all and all good vehicle with some minor and major problems.

It is a good vehicle it does have some issues with the frame it is comfortable for travel but like most cars it is going to give problems sometimes.

- Ricky G

The DVD player a lot of newer cars do not have that feature.

Car is great for long trips and kid friendly. There’s a DVD player that keeps the kids occupied. Ac goes out sometimes and tired get thinned fast.

- Kelly G

CAR IS 15 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 120K MILES ON IT

MY TRUCK HAS BEEN EXTREMELY DEPENDABLE EVEN AT 15 YEARS OLD. MINIMAL MAINTENANCE AND EXPENSES. ONLY THING I WOULD CHANGE IS I WISH I HAD A SUNROOF

- ERIC m

- Amber B

It's a good, affordable family car.

I like the roominess of the interior. I like the power it has to pull my boat and accelerate quickly. I don't like that it's terrible on gas (V8)

- Charlene S

As the vehicle ages it starts to have wiring and electrical issues.

I like it because it gets me where I need to go but its old and starting to fall apart. I get tired of replacing and fixing stuff all the time.

- Jamie N

Nothing that I can think of other than the crack below the rear window.

Dislike that there seems to be a manufacturing flaw that creates a crack below the rear window. I have noticed this on several other vehicles.

- H O

I consider my vehicle a truck! I use it to haul everything.

I LIKE TO SIT UP HIGHER IN THE SUV. CARS ARE TOO LOW TO THE GROUND. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. IT ONLY HAS 51000 MILES ON IT

- Staci G
