2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Review: Dependable & Powerful Midsize SUV With Great 4WD

Alex Showalter
Aug 26, 2022

The 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee lasts around 250,000 miles with only some minor starting and stalling issues. At $8,397 to $20,593, it’s a decent value for an upscale SUV with off-road capabilities.

likeFilled The Good
The Grand Cherokee performs better off-road than other midsize SUVs, the interior has some high-quality leather and the V8 engines offer great power.
dislikeFilled The Bad
he backseats are cramped, the V6 engine is weak at highway speeds and the suspension is bouncy.

Is the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee a Good Used SUV?

  • Yes, 2010 is a good year for the Grand Cherokee. Owner reviews praise the 4-wheel-drive system, powerful engines, and comfortable cabin.
  • Interior quality is better than other SUVs in the same price range. There are a lot of durable fabrics used in the entry-level models and nice leather in the higher end models, the stereo system offers good features like Bluetooth & USB as well.
  • Reliability ratings are good for an SUV. We recommend models from 2007-2010, avoid  models from 20112015 which have more problems.
  • Performance is good from the standard V6 engine, but the largest V8 offers more power than other SUVs.
  • The Grand Cherokee is reasonably safe. It earns a rating of stars with 5 stars in the frontal crash tests, 5 stars in the side impact test, but only 3 stars for the rollover risk.
  • Fuel economy is poor at around 18 MPG, which should get owners roughly 379 miles of range out of the 21.1 gallon gas tank.

Wheel covers fell off and rattled. . Purchased wheel cove combo.
Very reliable and provide a good ride. . I changed the wheel overs to a aftermarket wheel and rim combo now very pleased.

Very comfortable for five people. Plenty of legroom for everyone.
It has all the room I need to almost make it seem like a truck. Very comfortable and plenty of room for five. 18 miles to the gallon which is not bad for a SUV. Rides very well for a SUV.

Safe, reliable, family vehicle.
It is a very reliable vehicle. It is safe. It is good on gas. It holds up for years. It is too top heavy so you don't have to worry about rolling. It's a very good vehicle to learn to drive in. It is easy to handle. It has plenty of legroom and trunk space. It is good for pulling trailers. It is a very good family vehicle.

No reason not to love the jeep grand Cherokee.
Super reliable and easy to maintain. Performance is great as it does not drive like a truck at all. The dash is super functional and intuitive. Very comfortable and functional throughout the vehicle. Good for the city as well as the farm. Plenty of space, as well.

2010 Jeep grand Cherokee review.
Its reliable, plenty of space, and very handy when going on road trips. It has Bluetooth, good on gas, easy to find parts if something happens to the car. Cost efficient, I haven't had any problems with the car yet. It tells you how many miles left till you have to get gas.

Jeeps are the best@
I love my Jeep! This is the second Jeep I have owned. I had the first one ten years and it still ran good and looked good. I now have a 2010 Jeep Cherokee with 85k miles on it. Most reliable car a woman can drive. I always feel safe and in control driving my Jeep. I can haul almost anything. Drag my two dogs with me everywhere and clean it up so it looks good going out on the town. It's comfortable and handles great. I really appreciate the wide area thoughts provide at night. Much more than my husband's Taurus Sho which I hate driving because I feel like I am sitting on the ground! I have had this car eight years and I intend on keeping it for quite awhile longer! :) Can't beat perfection!

How my jeep makes my life easier.
My jeep grand Cherokee has been a good vehicle. I live in Pennsylvania, where it snows quite often and the 4 wheel drive comes in handy in the winter. It has the room on the inside that I need when I go shopping. I also have 3 grandchildren and when I want to take them different places, I have the room for them. Since I live in the mountains, my jeep lets me go up and down them with ease. I am pretty sure the next vehicle will be in the jeep family.
accountCircle April Y
One thing that I triply like about my jeep is that the gas mileage is low and.
I love that it is not too big and not too small. It is also paid off and I like that I do not have a car payment and it is mine. I wish it could be a little bit bigger due to having car seats for my children. That does not leave too much space in the back for someone else to ride but in the passenger side.

2010 Jeep liberty: its electric.
The 2010 Jeep liberty came with a few issues. I expected some with it being used, but it has so many electrical problems. Which I found out after getting the Jeep is a very common problem. The doors would not lock, a. C. Doesn't work, and there are problems with the lights. I like driving it and it does great in the winter weather.

Jeeps are the gas guzzlers.
The gas mileage is terrible. Parts of it have fallen apart. The air conditioning is garbage. The digital miles you have left does not match up with the gauge. They are terrible for the environment and I will never buy another jeep again. The car was a good size though.
accountCircle Jeremiah V
My jeep has a snorkel out of the side of the hood.
My jeep does not really have any major issues. The only thing I do not like about it is that is 10 years old and the interior is faded and worn. It gets decent gas mileage and never gets stuck no matter where I go. The other thing that I like about it is the four wheel drive.
accountCircle Max W
You cannot use the headlights and the right blinker at the same time.
It leaks in the rain, and when you use the headlights the right blinker stops working. Other than that, it is just fine.
accountCircle Autumn J
The old (somewhat) reliable.
My car is a red jeep grand Cherokee, which was bought used for temporary reasons. The lock is slightly wonky. The back left window has to be tapped up or it will fall down, and there is no insulation. However, it drives well enough, and it is even large enough to take a nap in.
accountCircle Shelby M
Lots of space but not good for tall people.
It does not have good gas mileage. There is a lot of room in the trunk but not in the back seat. It does not fit tall people well, I am five feet and four inches tall and I would not be able to be any taller in order to fit comfortably in the driver's seat. The gas cap is not connected to the car so you might forget to put it back when you are pumping gas.
accountCircle Emily P
Well the front bumper fell off, that is the most interesting thing.
It is a good car, we 've had problems with leaks every once and awhile. But our car has got crashed into, so it may be because of that and some other things. Also the breaks keep on going out. But other than that it is a good car. I love the way the inside is and the way it is built. Also has a decent amount of room.
accountCircle Bian V
I have a love-hate relationship with this car.
It gets me to where I need to go. It isn't speedy. It imuses a decent amount of gas. It has higher miles and still runs well. It is a mediocre car.

What Do Critics Say About the Jeep Grand Cherokee?

  • Consumer Reports says the Grand Cherokee offers excellent visibility from the high driving position with average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the Grand Cherokee a 4.4/5 praising the off-road capabilities, but doesn’t like the cramped legroom in the backseats.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Grand Cherokee 4.2/5 and enjoy the luxurious leather interior, but owners don’t like the limited cargo space.

What Common Problems Does the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Have?

The most common problems found on the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee include failing to start, the engine stalling while driving, and heater issues. Overall, these problems are slightly worse than some SUVs from 2010, fortunately repair costs are more affordable than average.

Failing to start is the most widespread complaint from owners at around 70,000 miles. There are several sources to the problem including a dead battery which costs $250 to replace, a bad starter which is $450, and a totally integrated power module (TIPM) failure which is over $1,000.

The engine stalling while driving is another issue reported by owners at around 80,000 miles. Often it’s simply a spark plug problem which is about $200 to replace. In other cases there have been camshaft issues which cost about $1,800 to swap out.

The heater blowing cold air also shows up on some Grand Cherokee models at around 65,000 miles. The blend door actuator is usually the source of the problem, and changing it out costs about $300.

There are 5 recalls, which is better than other SUVs from 2010. The most serious recall covers the vehicle shifting to neutral, which can allow it to roll away. Jeep fixes the issue by replacing a part in the transfer case. Other recalls cover the air bags and brake booster, and are not a concern once they’ve been changed.

How Long Will the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Last?

A well-maintained 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee can last around 250,000 miles, which is around 100,000 miles less than top-rated competitors like the Toyota 4Runner. Regular annual maintenance costs are slightly lower than other midsize SUVs from 2010 at $639 per year, according to Repair Pal.

Since most 2010 Grand Cherokee models will have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace items including the valve cover gasket for $300, blower motor costing $280, and the stabilizer bushings which cost around $100.

None known. Extremely reliable. Have not had any major issues in 9 years of owning a jeep. Just very minor issues easily repaired.

accountCircle Maria G

Very reliable, haven't had any issues with it and it drives very smooth. More reliable than my current car and it takes less gas than my other car.

accountCircle Courtney P

It is reliable. However, I often need oil changes and updates. Gets kind of annoying. Overall it is worth it though

How Much Is the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Worth?

How Does the Jeep Grand Cherokee Compare to the Competition?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is an average SUV for the 2010 model year, and has better off-road performance than many other SUVs, earning our recommendation.

The Toyota 4Runner is a popular competitor which costs about $9,000 more. Reliability ratings are better in the Toyota 4Runner, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee has a more luxurious interior. We recommend the Toyota 4Runner on the used market since they last longer and hold their value better.

The Ford Explorer is another rival, which costs about $300 less. Passenger space and towing capacity are both better in the Ford Explorer, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s 4WD system works better off-road. We recommend the Jeep Grand Cherokee for the 2010 model year since there are fewer complaints from owners.

I like the full size spare tire. And I feel it is well equip.
This is my third jeep and love them. One thing that seems to be an issue is electrical issues. Otherwise, this is a well built and reliable vehicle. Has been around for years and is well known and liked. Not a luxury vehicle but rugged and smooth at the same time.

2010 black jeep grand Cherokee.
It is old so it needs constant maintenance and the doors are really creaky. I love the size and height of the car. It is easy to use and drive and I feel safe in it. The only downside is that it has a lot of miles on it and is old but it is gotten me through a lot of road trips.

Jeep grand Cherokee: affordable and dependable.
It is been stuttering a bit lately but the warranty is really great and there's lots of space. Gas mileage is pretty good, seat warming is a great feature, and temperature control is usually good! Seats stay comfortable up until about hour 3 in the car due to my low back problems.

Jeep: a great ride and overall car.
Main problem with the car is that the skylight drainage system does not work properly. It gets clogged and then water ends up on the floor of the car. The last few months the engine has been having some issues but the car is now 10 years old. Not great on gas mileage but really powerful engine for that push when you need it.

My experience with the jeep as a traveler.
The jeep is an amazing and reliable vehicle that is comfy with sustained cooling and an amazing stock radio system with Bluetooth included, a touchscreen, and reliable volume levels. I usually connect a cable regardless to play music from my phone due to habit but the few times I have used the Bluetooth there have been zero differences. This is a reliable car that only really can suffer from feeling shaky on long trips or the highway due to it is high, boxy nature.

I like the overall feel and fit of the vehicle, mileage is not as good as my last Cherokee, but it was a 4 cylinder 2 wheel drive so it was expected. So far I am extremely happy with my new grand Cherokee. The entertainment/comfort control systems are top notch. I wanted that in a vehicle and I am happy with that. My biggest complaint about this vehicle is the internal size. With 2 kids, when all of us are in the vehicle with 2 car seats, we are all very crammed. You would think this wouldn't be a problem in a jeep, but feels like I am driving a compact car sometimes.
