Alex Showalter
Oct 12, 2022

The 2015 Mazda3 lasts around 250,000 miles with only some minor stereo system and battery issues. At $11,750 to $15,925, it’s similar in price to other small cars while offering a more luxurious interior.

likeFilled The Good
Steering feels sporty for a compact car, engines are efficient and there is good safety technology available including brake assistance.

There’s more road noise than in other compact cars, back seats have limited legroom and rear visibility is poor in the hatchback with the large pillars.

It gets very good gas mileage city and highway.
I have no complaints about my Mazda 3. It's dependable. It drives crisply. It's safe. It handles well and gets good gas mileage.

Mazda 3 easy to use and a great first car!
I really love my Mazda3! I have around the most basic model and I bought it used, so I think it is the perfect first car for a teenager, or young adult that is just starting out. The cloth seats are very comfortable and despite it being a small car, there is a great amount of space in the back seat. In today's economy, it does not take more than $30 dollars to fill the tank, but unfortunately, the gas does go by kind of fast. There are Bluetooth and navigation capabilities and the cruise control is easy to understand. Most of all, the key fob and push to start feature makes the car overall really easy to use.

A thrill to drive, the Mazda car experience is fun filled!
My Mazda is a great driving car that gets excellent gas mileage. Fun to drive, has an excellent audio system that I plug into Spotify. Great experience to drive on long trips, and will probably stay in the Mazda family for my next car! Also, considering a new Mazda in 2020.

I love my mazda 3. It is the best car I ever had.
Good on gas, fast pick up, very comfortable, good price, love the style and the looks of the inside. The car radio is in a spot that I do not like the console in between the seats is not sturdy and the lid can break buy leaning on it. The screws hold the sun visor up keep coming loose.

Mazda3 grand touring sport is made for fun and speed.
I love the leather interior. This vehicle is made for speed and fun. I hate that the vehicles do not come in a bright blue. I do not like the dull boring colors of white, grey, silver, black, or the dull dark blues or reds.

Mazda 3 2015 sport model trim.
I love the steering, body and features. I do have issues with my I connect crashing at times and not being able to connect to my phone via Bluetooth. The back can be wider do not have many passengers; however my son’s car seat takes up a lot of space in the back.

Great economical car for the money!
My Mazda 3 gets great gas mileage. It has heated front seats for cold winters, cools down quickly, seats are comfortable. The navigation system is easy to use, speakers are Bose and have good sound quality. The manual transmission has song get up and go. Thus far, I have not had any mechanical problems with my Mazda.

Love my mazda 3 hatchback.
Mazda is a very reliable brand. The design of the mazda 3 hatchback is sleek and beautiful. As with all mazdas it is not a very quiet car. The screen in the center console is great and easy to navigate with a knob in the center. Overall it is a wonderful car.

DO NOT BUY. They may be "semi-reliable" but they're ugly and you simply will just not be happy with it.
I like the gas mileage but quite honestly it is a cheap piece of junk. It has hubcaps rather than rims, the bluetooth rarely works, the interior is junk, and it's slow AF.

Electronics issues, paint
Great gas mileage. (1st 1/2 tank) -Infotainment crashed, needs "Master Command Module", per Mazda dealer. Estimate was $1,000 to replace. (Only had car just past 36k warranty when it crashed)...how convenient. NO radio, NO bluetooth, NO navigation, NOTHING! What a disapointment! -Wiper motor died and had NO wipers or washer. ($300) A/C blower motor died during 36k warranty. Passenger side power window motor starting to slow and fail. ($400)? Paint will chip if you look cross eyed at it, (soul red) (front grille looks like a pocked-marked, chipped shooting target.) personal estimate: $1,500 Gas mileage drops like a truck after 1/2 tank. Guess I got the lemon off the line, with everyone else singing their praises. At least for now, I can go to work and come back hoping it will start. My rating is actually in the negative. No more Mazda for me.

Great gas mileage and cheap to fill up
I like that it is small and compact. I do not like that it is standard and that the technology has issues constantly.
accountCircle Lexi S
It is a simple and reliable car.
It is very compact, I have had problems with the engine due to its unique construction. Good sound system. It is very small on the inside, it is a good one person car. It gets decent gas mileage. Good acceleration. I have had problems with the light wiring. It is difficult to change your own lights.
accountCircle Sabrina P
Not the most easily accessible
Because the car has a 'manual transmission' option it makes it really hard to jump start if the battery is dead. For the most part the car has good 'get up and go' and handles really well. The seats are uncomfortable for my long legs and the backs of the seats are uncomfortable above the base of the neck.

Mazda 3 review: reliable small sedan.
Has been a very reliable vehicle for more than 5 years. I bought it primarily as a commuter vehicle and it has served its purpose very well. It has never broken down on me, and I have put in over 120,000 miles so far. It is small, but good on gas. With routine maintenance I expect it will last me another two to three years.
accountCircle Ashlie R
More room for car seat / passenger.
I enjoy the car, but the only big downside to the car currently is the back seat space and room for a car seat. There is so little room that a passenger cannot sit in the front seat. There are also no car seat hooks in the middle to make it safer for the child and roomier for passengers.
accountCircle Joanna L
Mazda 3 is okay but technology is lacking.
Touch screen navigation will not work and bugs out. Randomly calls people or changes radio stations. Screen has been backordered for over 6 months. Otherwise car is fine. No real problems so far. It is a decent size sedan and can carry somethings. Wish there was windshield wipers because cannot get rain off.

What Do Critics Say About the Mazda3?

  • Consumer Reports says the Mazda3 combines sportiness with efficiency while getting great owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the Mazda3 a 4.5/5 praising the excellent handling, but doesn’t like the stiff ride with the larger wheels.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Mazda3 at 4.5/5 enjoying the very well-made interior, while owners don’t like the relatively small backseats.

What Common Problems Does the 2015 Mazda3 Have?

Common problems found on the 2015 Mazda3 include stereo system issues, excessive battery drain, as well as the transmission slipping. Overall, these problems are less severe than in other compact cars from 2015, while repair costs are average, too.

Stereo system issues are a complaint from owners in the first 50,000 miles. The screen freezes while using it, and has to be restarted. Some owners report having the software updated by a Mazda dealership fixes the problem for around $50, while others replace the screen, which costs around $650.

Excessive battery drain is another problem mentioned by owners in the first 15,000 miles. There are a lot of electrical accessories in the Mazda3, if they get left on then the battery drains quickly. Diagnosing the source of the electrical issues costs around $75, while a new battery is around $150.

The transmission slipping between gears is a rare, but serious issue which shows up on some Mazda3 models at around 80,000 miles. Owners report the transmission slips while shifting between gears, which usually means there’s a gear or ring issue. Rebuilding the transmission fixes the problem, costing around $1,600.

There are 3 serious recalls on the 2015 Mazda3, which are more severe than other compact cars. They include a fuel shut-off valve and a deformed fuel tank, which can both lead to a gasoline leak. Mazda will replace the valve and tanks in affected models for free.

How Long Will the 2015 Mazda3 Last?

A well-maintained 2015 Mazda3 will last around 250,000 miles, which is only around 50,000 miles less than the highly-rated Toyota Corolla. Regular annual maintenance costs are lower than average, according to data from Repair Pal, at $300 per month.

Since nearly all used 2015 Mazda3 models will have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace the ignition lock cylinder for $385, the A/C blend door costing $400, as well as the fuel filter which costs $300.

Yes very reliable. I have not had any problems that are the manufacturers fault. Mazda has been very good to me and I plan to buy Mazda for my next car as well.

accountCircle Caitlyn M

I have had my car for 2 years now and I have had zero problems with it at all. Nothing is making any noises nor nothings broken on it.

accountCircle Joann Q

Yes, it is a reliable vehicle. We had minor issues with vehicle. The issues were related to a recall item that was addressed immediately by the dealership.

accountCircle Garyin T

It relatively reliable. It runs decent now as a 5-year car. Its reliability is well known. However it does not run as smooth as day 1.

accountCircle Ri D

Has never broken down for any reason. It is fast, aerodynamically sound, reliable, dependable, great looking, and just a great car!

accountCircle Joseph W

A bit small for tall people but all in all a great vehicle and came at a great price so other than that have nothing negative to say.

accountCircle Kristina B

It is a very reliable car, I have never had any problems with the car at all. I did buy it used, but it runs amazing and this is my second Mazda 3z.

accountCircle Trish B

It is very reliable in my opinion. The only issue that I've had is the heater breaking but I say that was because I'm not the original owner. Other than that it’s been great.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is good in the Mazda3 with a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth included on all models above the 3i SV. Safety technology is excellent, too, with an optional rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, as well as forward collision warning with automatic braking.

Is the 2015 Mazda3 a Good Value?

Yes, the 2015 Mazda3 is a good value since it offers a lot of good tech along with a nice interior. Blue book prices range from $11,750 to $15,925, making it similar in price to a Honda Civic or Volkswagen Jetta. When new, the price range was $16,945 to $25,545. Depreciation is better than average, only losing about 8% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Mazda3?

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The third generation of the Mazda3 was introduced in 2014, and replaced by the fourth generation in 2019.

2013: Larger stereo screen for the navigation system, USB input added.

2014: Fully redesigned for the third generation with new interior, exterior & technology.

2015: Six-speed manual added to 2.5L engine.

2016: SV model discontinued, standard rearview camera added.

2017: Slight changes to front & rear bumpers, new dashboard, more safety equipment added.

2018: 2.5 Touring model discontinued, sport models get forward collision warning system.

2019: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new exterior, interior & more technology.

How Does the Mazda3 Compare to the Competition?

The Mazda3 is one of the highest-rated compact cars from 2015, offering a more upscale interior and better safety features than most of the competition.

The Honda Civic is another compact car available in the same price range. Passenger room is slightly better in the back seats of the Honda Civic, however, the Mazda3 offers a much more luxurious interior for the money. We recommend the Mazda3 since you get more for your money, although both are excellent compact cars.

The Mazda6 is another sedan from Mazda which costs about $2,000 more. There’s more room and power in the Mazda6, while the reliability ratings are better in the Mazda3. We recommend the Mazda3 for most buyers since there are fewer problems reported from owners.

Incredibly reliable and sporty enough with the 2.5 engine
One of the better-looking compact cars from this era. Quite fuel-efficient for 184 hp and 2.5L. Have never had any mechanical issues with it. If you're into modifying your cars, there's limited stuff available, and the 2.5L engine doesn't leave much on the table to upgrade later, but there are things you can do. Would buy another Mazda.

My car is the most reliable car I could ask for. Great on gas mileage. Ran it up to over 70k miles in 5 years and it still runs like new. I am a big guy at 6'3' and I sit very comfortably in this car, even though it is a compact. I plan on driving this car for several more years.

The Mazda 3 is, overall, a reliable and fun vehicle.
The only problems I have had with this vehicle is the radio. It will occasionally cut out and not play the radio or anything connected to Bluetooth. It is an extremely reliable vehicle. I have had it for 5 years and put nearly 100,000 miles on it and it still runs great! On a scale of one to 10, I rate the comfort of this vehicle an 8. While it is very comfortable in the front, it is not very comfortable in the back. There is limited leg room and is not great for sitting for extended periods of time. As far as the features, I think the controls on the console is very convenient. The monitor sticking out top of the dash is convenient and a neat feature as well.

Touchscreen buttons and blindspot features.
I have had my car for six years and have not had any problems at all so far. The mileage is very good also all the mirrors are perfect I love the features that it comes with. This is my third time owning a Mazda and I recommend Almaz does to people seeking new cars and I will continue to look for Mazdas every time I need a new vehicle.

Comfortable car but need more room.
I really like my car. It handles well, it is comfortable, and it gets good mileage. My only complaints would be needing more storage and more room if three people sit in the back seat of my car. It is an extremely tight fit in my car if we go on family road trips. Because of that I am considering a Mazda cx-5 in the future.

Compact on the outside, spacious on the inside.
Bluetooth connection faulty every now and then. The only way to successfully reconnect is to turn the car off, wait, then turn the car back on. There is lots of space for this compact vehicle. I love being able to put my seats completely flat as this creates plenty of space for me to move items like furniture.

Comfort like no other vehicle I have owned. Smooth ride.
One of the most comfortable cars I have owned. Seats hug your body and seat position is great. Have had some problems with wheel sensors but this is bound to happen after 5-6 years. Car has great pickup and a very smooth ride. Will look to purchase mazda vehicles going forward.
accountCircle Emma S on May 2, 2021
Good car, bad backup camera.
The car is really good overall. I drive a manual version of the car and the screen telling me which gear to put the car in is super helpful. My only complaint would be that the backup camera sometimes stops working for no reason. It either completely cuts out or has a greatly reduced video quality even though there is no known damage to the camera.

The cars got great pick up.
The Mazda 3 has been a great car I have a 2015 model very little problems at 100,000 mi I did not like the interior design with the seats are close to the actual center console as the car can really eat phones down the seats and other things that can be frustrating to get out but other than that I love the vehicle and the sound system in it is amazing.

It's a small car but you don't feel cramped. I love the hatchback, I can actually haul stuff! Great on Gas. Upkeep through the dealership is responsible. The quality of paint is not that great. I have several chips all over my front bumper and the hood. The tire size is good, they are not an expensive tire. I have had a few recalls because I bought it brand new, but the dealership always gave me a loaner if needed. I have not had any issues due to the recalls.

Perfect size vehicle; and the looks are timeless.
The hatchback makes it easy to haul large items in such a small car. The size makes it easy to park anywhere. The car is safe and easy to drive.
I love the look of the car and how it drives. I dislike the small backseat. I like the color as well.

My first Mazda and I would buy it again.
The mpg, acceleration, responsiveness and comfort are excellent. I'm a little disappointed that the CMU (infotainment) had to be replaced shortly after the warranty expired, but Mazda covered most of the cost.

I think they should know it's a dependable car that's got great mpg.
It's a good, reliable car, with good mileage. The sound system is nice, the steering is good, and it's pretty durable. The paint is pretty but shows dirt so easily. There's always a lot of light symbols I have to look up.

Mazda 3- push to start and reliable.
I have never had any problems with my vehicle, I feel safe in it. It is very comfortable, comes with USB plugs and even an outlet. It has push to start and navigation. It has a manual sport mode. I feel safe and comfortable taking it on long road trips. Very reliable and nice looking car.

Mazda mazda3 i Sport honest review.
I purchased my vehicle pre owned with 32,000 miles on her but the performance on this car is amazing. She now has about 74,000/75,000 miles on her and the ride is so smooth. Vehicle is extremely comfortable yet cool. The audio quality one this car is out of this world!

Mazda review for Mazda touring in three.
Has a lot of problems, with coolant, brakes, payments, with how you drive it the ac is too hot the chairs get things stuck too easily. I drive it and it gets how the wheels feel heavy the steering wheel feels heavy when I drive on the highway ay the payments are too high and not affordable.

2015 Mazda 3 sport hatchback works but is not fun to drive.
My car drives well and does not give any issues shifting or anything related to the engine. I have issues with the infotainment system glitching or not working. Bluetooth disconnects easily. The center console knobs and dial gets stuck in place easily and does not work the majority of the time.

Mazda 3 sedan. A great car with awesome gas mileage and stereo.
This car has been great. It has 100,000 miles and is still running well. It has been very dependable. I have not had any major issues and no mechanical issues aside from regular maintenance. Mazda has come a long way in the recent years and I would recommend the car brand to others to look into.

Handy and durable, fitting for what it's worth
Real nice, pretty high power for a midsize car, good on gas, excellent sound system and navigation, really comfortable and durable

It is a very good vehicle.
I do not have any problems with the car, I like how smooth it is and the minimal sound it makes. It was worth the price and I do not think it will break down on the middle of road. I can easily adjust the seats and steering wheel. And the functions of the little GPS and Bluetooth system are fantastic.

Great gas mileage and cheap to fill up
I like that it is small and compact. I do not like that it is standard and that the technology has issues constantly.

A stylish solution to mileage.
It is a great starter car. Very reliable with great mileage. I have only had 1 issue with the ac and I had to look up how to fix it on youtube, and the windows get stuck on occasion but it is not a big deal. It is probably average comfort with nothing too special, and the model I have only has the basic features. The audio is really good though.

2015 mazda3 is great to drive!
I drive a 2015 mazda3 hatchback. The car is reliable with good mileage. Average around 30 miles per gallon in city driving. It is comfortable to drive. Nice features such as the back camera, blind spots alert when using the signal to change lane, and the command center console to use the infotainment.

A great car would be the Mazda 3.
I love my Mazda 3. It drives great and has an accelerated warm up feature, which means you can start the car up and it will warm the engine faster so you can start to drive sooner. I have had no major issues with the car. It drives great and has great highway mileage and does not use as much gas.
