The perfect vehicle! Best purchase ever!
I love my tiguan! I was driving a small vehicle and hated it. I didn't want something terribly big but still did not want to be stuck in a small vehicle anymore. My boyfriend and I travel often, mostly taking road trips so it was important to have something both spacious but reliable. The tiguan is just that and more. We've taken this car on week long road trips and had room for everything we've picked up on the way as well as our personal belongs. In the future this car will be great for being a mom and having to travel with a small child! I couldn't be happier.

The all wheel drive helps the car drive in the snow.
The Tiguan I have is the R-Line. It is an all wheel drive that handles great in the snow. I feel safe when I drive this.

I like the moon roof of the car.
I like the seats, the moon roof, and the space the most. I am always comfortable, and I feel like it is gas efficient. I like that it has seat warmers and I love how fast I can go while still feeling safe. The size of the car is also great and it makes me feel a lot safer.

My Volkswagen Tiguan is a beautiful cherry red and has a tan and black interior.
I love my Tiguan! It drives great and I feel super safe on the road. My previous vehicle was a Chevrolet Cruze and I found myself hydroplaning often. I love that I never have to worry about that in my Tiguan. The interior is black and tan while the outside is a beautiful cherry red. I would recommend this car to anyone and I am hoping to hold onto it for a long time!

Luxury car perks on a family SUV.
The performance when accelerating is great with a smooth driving. The size is just right not to large but really spacious on the inside. Great for long and small trips. It has heated seats which comes in handy on winter time. It also comes with shift gear paddles behind the wheel which is awesome and nice when you want to pass the traffic or need to get more speed before changing lanes. Or even motor braking.

Found my absolute best car for me, it even shows my spunky side.
After a lot of research, this is the perfect car for mem. Far exceeded my expectations! From the keyless entry to the push button start, there is as always something new and exciting waiting for me on my next trip to the grocery store or to pick up the kids. Love this car so much!

Pay a great price for a sporty feel.
One of the sensors went out (abs sensor) which they said is normal for Volkswagen, which I do not like because it is a very expensive part. My tiguan handles very well, easy to drive and very reliable. It is very comfortable to sit in. For a small car is has a lot of trunk space.

This vehicle is great as a first car or for a small family!
The tiguan 2016 model is great! It is a very comfortable car and easy to drive. The size is amazing as it fits 5 people comfortably and has a large trunk as well. The sound Bluetooth system works very well and the speakers in this car have a great quality. I have the light beige leather interior and it is easy to clean with car products. This car has traveled very far and is always in a great condition.

Head Unit Blank Screen problem ignored by VW
Have 2016 Tiguan SE with navigation and CarPlay head unit, it starred with CarPlay connectivity issues, and now the screen remains blank completely. Which means the lcd screen never turns on Despite the 10/15 sec reset. Many people on forums are complaining about this issue, dealers want to charge $125 for diagnostics then they don’t know what’s going on and want charge over$1k for new unit! Some cars had a recall for software updates 91N9 but not all the models like my Tiguan. Europe are lucky enough to allow self updates to include navigation maps, but US and Canada they want to nickel and dime you. Never a VW car ... If you want German go for the real deal MBZ other than that it is junk!

I do like the gas mileage considering the size of the vehicle.
Engine broke at 92,000 miles . Feels like riding in a fishbowl. Does not have access to satellite radio. Makes a clunking noise when on a bumpy road . Expensive for repairs and maintenance . Takes forever to get into a licensed maintenance support. Gas cap has broken three times.

Decent Enough - Super Expensive To Own
Adequate for what it is. Very expensive maintenance repairs from Xenon headlight bulbs (day and night compared to yellow halogen bulbs in my other cars), an intake manifold, shocks, coolant flush, rear differential flush, decarbonizing the engine, and more. I do give it props for a rear hit-and-run accident that happened at a supermarket, the plastic lower bumper cover was only $150 making for a very affordable fix. The 18” tires are good, but the ride gets very bumpy over bad pavement. In snow, it’s okay, feels really rear wheel drive biased if you’re going up an icy hill, the rear end fishtails with the traction control off. It has a very easy to use navigation system and very good radio, but the speaker quality is a little dull. The sunroof shade is big, but doesn’t block enough sunlight, it reminds me of 200 doilies sewn together. The bulb out warning is useful, but note a dipped beam is a low beam, a rear side light is a trunk tail light, and the rear L/R turn signal is the outer brake/tail/directional bulb. The sun visor fell off at 55k, damaging the wiring harness that triggers the light to turn on and off when you open the vanity mirror, and it’s an expensive I don’t want to fix (you would have to peel down the airbag cover and the headliner, etc). I fixed it in the meantime with a new bolt. This car gets AWFUL gas mileage at stop and go traffic, like it has 4 extra cylinders, but does okay on the highway. It prefers premium and gets better mileage with premium fuel on the highway, but stop and go is still abysmal. I had a big issue with the horns failing every time it rained (there are 3, one on each side by the fog lights and one dead center under the windshield cowl that sounds like Roadrunner). The ones by the fog lights were the ones that failed. This vehicle is okay enough for 3-4 adults, but is very cramped. The trunk is ridiculously small until you remove the PITA tray that hooks onto the hatchback door. The vehicle nearly has 80,000 miles and I’m sadly looking to get rid of it. It’s a great driving car, but between gas and repairs, I’m put in the poor house. Oh and one more thing, don’t try and upgrade your A/C system to the dual zone, the car didn’t start and when it did, I had over 10 warning lights on. The fan knob fell off the old one and a few buttons like the rear defrost and recirculating were inoperative, so I sent the old one back and got a newer one that was the same type. Windshield needs to be replaced after a hub cap flew into it and made a big chip that looks like bird c**p on the passenger’s side. Power is strong off the line, but it is poor when passing a tractor trailer kicking up rocks (you really have to floor it to see an increase in speed). The TSI engines are known for timing issues at the end of their lives, and once that snaps, bye-bye car.

Gas Mileage Average and repairs are good. Easy to drive . Great in the snow. Seats are comfortable.
Good on gas would like more room. It does not require a lot of repairs. Comfortable to drive.
accountCircle Laura E
It's a great compact SUV. Just don't expect a lot of room.
I do like it a lot it's a comfortable SUV and a smooth ride. What I don't like is that it is a lot smaller than I realized. With 2 kids it can be a snug fit. My trunk doesn't have room for groceries with my stroller in it.
accountCircle Jamie A
It has heated leather seats and turbo.
There is not much trunk space, and the car is a little sensitive when stepping on the gas and rough to handle the steering wheel. The rear view mirror is kind of rough to adjust as well. I like the look of the car and how quiet it is and a lot of the technology features are cool. I wish I would have come with apple carplay and also as a diesel.

Don't have much technology that other cars
I like the selling price is fair for an european car. I dislike the fuel usage was high

Perfect size for a small family.
Overall, the VW Tiguan is a very efficient car. As far as crossovers go, it has the room and strength needed to be practical for a family while still having the power you want to go places. One big drawback this car does have, however, is that you can feel it switching gears. This means that sometimes, it takes quite a while to reach the desired speed or match others. It is a very comfortable car with all the needed amenities, and has many modern features.

Plenty of space but not too big.
I like that my Volkswagen touareg is spacious enough to fit four adults very comfortably and five if needed. I like the extra space the back provides. I can easily put down the back row of seats when I need more space to haul things like bikes. The interior is very comfortable, and I enjoy the heated seats. The control screen is very easy to use.

I love my 2016 tiguan and have no complaints.
I currently have no problems with my 2016 tiguan. It is reliable, drives smooth, and gets decent gas mileage. I love the look to it (inside and out). It is also a great size- not too big, not too small. I also appreciate the all black interior and leather seats.

Pros from Owners

likeFilled Leila M.

Great reliable car. I love this car and it is great on gas as well. I have not had any issues using it and hope that I can continue to use it for many years to come. The gas does pretty well, but not as I expected.

likeFilled Jenna S.

This car has a lot of 'pick-me-up', is comfortable to drive and easy to maneuver. The interior is spacious and the driving console is great! There is plenty of room to haul groceries, kiddos and all their sports equipment - but most of all this is a really fun car to drive!

likeFilled Rosanne N.

It is all wheel drive and I feel safe driving it in snow/ice. It is high enough off the ground that when I drive over ice boulders I will not get stuck. Very reassuring. It also has heated seats which is good for where I live, which is cold.

likeFilled Jenifer H.

Smooth ride. Top quality car. Roomy. Fun to drive. Looks nice. Good gas mileage for its class. Comfortable. Look of luxury without feeling like I have to worry about the kids ruining the seats. Bluetooth is good quality.

likeFilled Tierra H.

The technology is great and it makes it easy to operate. It is well-priced. It is small, so I can park it anywhere. The appearance of the car is very cute. It is an SUV with all the advantages of an SUV, but it does not drink gas like one.

Cons from Owners

dislikeFilled Leila M.

I wish that this car had better gas mileage and that it didn't cost so much to get my oil changed. I also don't like that it is not four wheel drive because this makes it more difficult to drive in the winter time.

dislikeFilled Jenna S.

Although I love my Volkswagen Tiguan, I am not a big fan of the 2016 body style. It is a little too 'cute'. If I could purchase this car again, I would have opted for a new model like the 2018. That being said, it is still a fun and reliable car to own!

dislikeFilled Rosanne N.

The cons of this vehicle is that it is not roomy enough for storage in the trunk. Even though I can put the back seats down, I was hoping it would be bigger than my last car which was a small Chevy. It is actually the same if not smaller, yet the outside makes it seem like it would be roomy. It just does not have a spacious trunk.

dislikeFilled Jenifer H.

The trunk lid doesn't automatically open and it is not the easiest to open manually. Once you start the car you cannot use the key fob to unlock the rest of the doors. So if I unlock the driver's side and not the back doors and I go to put the kids in I have to go back to the front door to unlock it. No automatic starter.

dislikeFilled Tierra H.

It is very small. There is not much space for anything. If I have another child, I definitely have to get another car, because there is no way this one can hold 2 car seats and a stroller. My vehicle is the larger one for the family, so I would definitely need to go to the next size up.
