Perhaps the best and most versatile city car ever marketed
I have a 2006 with only 20,000 . Although I have seven automobiles, the XB arguably the best all around. It is as reliable as a sunrise, fun to drive, has a enormous storage capacity and requires almost nothing other than routine maintenance. I have had no issues mechanically or cosmetically with the automobile, and I drive it extremely hard smiling the whole time. As a former Ferrari/Alfa technician, I find it’s simplicity and ease of repair to be unbelievably good.

Why did you stop with the first generation design?
The Scion xB never caught my eye in the beginning. It was not that I saw the car and hated it or loved it. Like a young love head over heels in love with someone who doesn’t even know they exists, that’s the way it was with me. I had inherited my mother’s 1994 Toyota Corolla which was at that time 10-12 years old. I can’t remember what drew me to the xB but I began researching. I heard a lot of interesting things about the car that had sparked my curiosity. The boxy nature gave the occupants more room from head to toe especially in the rear seats as well as cargo space. The fuel consumption was pretty good. The “all glass surrounds” gave an unimpeded view and I went to the dealers and had picked up 2006 brochures. I really liked the xB: Unpretentious, useful, efficient and fun to drive. Some said unattractive, I thought differently. I always thought it looked like the car was smiling. It has personality, character, charm. Then I read an article that it was being redesigned. Hmmm, redesigned? My curiosity was peaked once more. I was curious to see what they would do with the very unusual, spunky box, but when it was revealed, I did not like it. The personality and character was gone. The smile had been turned into a scowl. The cockpit was dark due to the eliminations of the rear side windows and the lower “slammed “roof line. The “slammed” look never appealed to me. It looked like bat mobile animated series. Heavier with a boost in engine power, the fuel consumption went down; it was wider and longer with more trunk/cargo space. It had extra safety features that the first generation lacks. I hung on to the Corolla for another 11 years. The 24 year old Corolla still drove pretty well. The odometer had flipped back to 000,000 but was having a lot of issues (mainly electrical) and maintenance costs were increasing with each oil change. Not wanting a car payment, I started searching for the last production year of the 1st gens. In 2017, I purchased a 5 speed manual 2006 xB. I’ve had it for over 2 years and love it. It has been very useful in so many ways. With the passing of my in-laws, hauling their belongings to Goodwill and other establishments has been so easy. The wide hatch opening made loading large furniture pieces easy. A prime example, my brother in law wanted his parent’s wingback chairs and could not fit one in his partners Prius. With the rear seats down, I fit both (in a 69 position) in the cavernous back and was able to close the hatch completely. At times I have lower back issues which made getting in and out of the Corolla was a challenge gingerly balancing maneuverable ability and pain. I’m not tall but have misjudged getting in the Corolla and have hit the right side of my head a few times. The xB’s high roof line, lower chassis and wide doors (even the back doors) makes getting in and out not a problem and I have yet to bang my head. The xB is pretty good on the highway but at high speeds, the rpm’s are over 3000 and the engine sounds hi revved. If it had a 6th speed, it would take the rpm’s to a comfortable highway cruising speed/sound. If I could give Toyota some advice, re-issue a new model of the 1st gen xB and like the Mini Cooper and the VW Beetle, update the interior, update the body design with bold trim, side impact air curtains, hybrid/battery/electric/gas, 6th speed manual for high cruising speed, a little larger trunk/cargo space, sun/moon /panoramic roof, self-braking/lane drifting sensors, rear view back up camera. I would definitely purchase a modernized xB.

Extremely reliable and while not fast accelerating cruises at 80 to 85 miles.
Unique square shape, small turning radius, 27 to 30 miles per hour, very roomy inside, rear seats fold flat for added luggage space, and 288,000 miles. I drive this car anywhere.

It sits very low to the ground. Sometimes difficult to get out for a bigger person

I love the Scion XB vehicle. I was introduced to it by my father in law who owns one already and I thought to myself this is my kind of car. I love how it does good on MPG. It's very reliable. It has many safety features and I love how the back seats go down. Coolest car to me yet!

2006 scion db. Feels like the Tardis.
I really love my scion db.. I have owned it for 12 years and it is been incredibly reliable. I'd say my only real issue is the pickup, but that is to be expected from a 12 year old 4 cylinder car. It is a very small car, but feels huge on the inside. Tons of leg room. The ride is a little rough now but the seats are comfortable.

Best thing to come from Toyota!
The scion xb first gen is the most amazing vehicle. I am the original owner and have 276000 miles on this car. Only had to do regular maintenance on the car other than having to replace a motor mount recently, a $60 part lol. I think it is the most roomy vehicle until you step into the huge SUV line. All around a great buy. Cost was low, mileage is great, roomy and very durable.

Custom 17 inch rims and low profile tires.
Great running engine. Plenty of rear leg room and head room. Not a great ride. Kind of rough. Charcoal grey paint in great shape. Have always used full synthetic mobil 1 extended good for 15000 miles. Always changed every 5000 miles. Has been a very dependable vehicle.

Its small and is easy to maneuver. It can go quite fast
No cruise control, power in windows and locks go out. Pieces fall off easily. I don't recommend this vehicle. It's super comfortable. Seats don't lay down, but the space for the trunk is adequate. No heated or cool seats. Radio is basic and has no aux or Bluetooth. Windows are really big.

Scion xb has been a very reliable vehicle over the last 12 years.
I live over an hour away from work and have put a lot of miles on this car. I drive this car a lot. It has almost 300,000 miles on it and still runs like new. Several times over the last few years I have had to replace the fuel cap. Other than the normal maintenance usually performed on a car, such as oil changes, brake pad change outs, etc, I have had no major issues with this car. It has been the most dependable car I have ever owned.

My Toyota Scion is extremely dependable and I love it
My Toyota Scion is very reliable. I've never had any problems with it. It's good on gas mileage, I commute tell her 5 days a week 25 miles to and front, and an awake I only have to put probably $40 in it. That's actually pretty amazing as far as gas mileage goes. It's extremely dependable. A make sure I keep my oil changed so that my car runs good. It's a cute but even for a spacious inside it's a hatchback.

Great vehicle for wheelchairs, walkers and hauling pygmy goats.
We bought the car used and have had no problems with it since purchase. We have taken several long road trips and it gets great gas mileage. I love the fact that the seats fold down for more storage space. We can easily fit 2 pygmy goats in there! My wheelchair fits comfortably behind the front seat and is easy for my husband to put in and take out of the car.

Dashboard Dreams of my Scion XB
The windshield of this vehicle is literally the best thing ever. No other car, except maybe a school bus, can compare to the amount of road you can see. The speedometer in the middle of the dash is also a wonderful feature. It allows you to keep your eyes on the road.

Great reliability. Low maintenance costs. Lot's of cargo space. 30 plus miles per gallon combination city/highway. Very easy to drive and even in tight spaces. It has a great trade in value. Lot's of windows for high visibility. The sound system is fantastic. Six stereo speakers, including subwoofer. Multi position front seats. Both driver side and passenger side. Space saver spare-tire under the back deck helps save quite a lot of space.

It's comfortable, gets great mpg (38) in town. Nobody in Tucson can stop the fan belt from screaming. I've tried. The tailgate no longer opens because the handle pulled off and the repair bill is $600. The stereo ate a CD 5 years ago. I absolutely love my vehicle! My commute on daily basis is to and from Thornton, co to aurora, co from home and work, and with traffic the last thing I need to be worrying about is my mpg and money wasted on gas. My vehicle gives me on a weave 31. 1 miles per gallon that I have calculated myself. Aside from that my car is just so spacious. I have a baby, and with the car seat in the back my husband can still in the front seat without having his knees touch the dash with him being 6’2. It's an okay car, but don't expect it to be amazing
Gaining speed is hard, it is however pretty reliable. But replacing parts can be difficult since most places don't carry them. Clearance is pretty low, which makes hydroplaning very easy. It is roomy, but the dashboard has such a weird set up compared to most vehicles.

The most important thing to know about my car is the screeching if the AC is on, as it can be quite a shock if you aren't used to it.
I love how smooth it is to drive and how long a tank of a gas lasts. Depending on how busy I am, a tank can last between 3-4 weeks, which is better than my last car, which was just 2 weeks. The only complaint I have is that it makes a loud screeching sound if I have the AC on before the car is warmed up.

My love affair with my wonderful scion xb.
I absolutely love my scion xb. The scion was marketed for younger people, but us "oldsters" are the ones buying it for a lot of reasons, I. E. Ease of getting in and out of it, plenty of legroom, both front and back, ability to let the back seats down and haul "things", plenty of headroom, good gas mileage, the style (it looks like a "vintage foreign" car. It sits up high - however it is small, so it is sometimes hard to find in the parking lot. I use my "alarm" button, on my key when this happens. But then it is also very easy to park, because of it is size. It is almost maintenance free. It is very reliable and comfortable, but sometimes on a rough road, it feels like it does not have any shocks. Also it is a little slow going up a hill, since it is only a 4 cylinder. My granddaughter said she feels like she is driving a golf cart, after the Volvo that she drives. I will never drive another car, so I certainly hope that they continue to make the scion. I am 82 years "young", so I really do not think I'll have to worry about that, since I only have 50, 800 miles on my 2006 scion xb. Blue book states it is value at $5, 500, which is great for a 12 year "young" car. In fact, it looks brand new.

Love the car but very slow acceleration, cannot turn very tightly at higher speeds, feels like it will tip over due to low wheel base. I absolutely love it! Extremely spacious on the inside. Accelerates very well. Can not beat the gas mileage. I usually have to fill up every 350 miles and then it only costs about $25 to actually fill it up! Love it. Some things I don't love however though. Does not do well in the rain due to how low to the ground it is. Has trouble driving over 75 miles per hour on the highway. Does not have a charging port for my phone. The cup holders do not seem to hold any cup very well. Would have loved to have a middle console to hold things.

Honest review of the 2006 scion xb.
My scion xb is very low to the ground making it difficult for me as a taller person to get in and out. The rear hatch back is too low and it hurts my back to lift things in and out. There is also not enough space in the hatchback for my needs. The paint began to chip off indicating the paint job was not high quality. The air conditioner is not working indicating the quality of the manufacturer. The shocks are horrible, it is like you can feel every bump on the road when driving. The engine is very small and as such there is not much power especially when the vehicle is full of passengers and cargo. Traveling up steep inclines the car slows down and moose's momentum. The car stereo is broken and the televisions that came mounted into the backs of the seats do not work anymore.

It may look quirky, but it is comfortable and reliable.
I like that it is small but because of the shape 4 adults can be comfortable riding in it. Plus is has good cargo space. It also seems very reliable and I like that it doesn't look like any other vehicle.

Its name is Rebecca and it is a very cute color.
I like the size and drive of the car. I sometimes dislike the small windshield and headlights are dim.

It has a lot more space in it than you would think, when you compare it to other sedans being made today.
I like the overall style of the car, though it seems to be hard to do your own oil changes because the front of the car is too close to the ground.

Less is more. The scion xb is small, simple, reliable and spacious.
All in all a great car. Small on the outside, and roomy on the inside. Very few performance problems. Sometimes highway acceleration is sluggish. More of a city car, but great for trips as it is very roomy. Comfortable seats, and good sound system for the time the car was built. Back-hatch handle is cheaply made and will break if used often. Never had any big repairs aside from some brake work, and my car has 150, 000 miles on it.

That the vehicle is a stick shift.
I like the stick shift and roominess of the vehicle. I don't like the squareness of the car and wish it could go faster.

I believe others should know is that it does not use a lot of gas.
I like the mileage the car provides and I also like the space it has on the inside. I dislike the way the car looks like on the outside. Over all is a great car and I would recommend it to anyone.

It is a base model, there are no bells and whistles to it. It's definitely a budget car but has potential.
I like that there has been few major problems with the vehicle. I do not like the pick up speed, it could use more power under the hood. It has a lot of room in the interior.

Great little car that holds more than you realize.
I have no problems. This section does not apply to me. I cannot think of any issues. It is a great little car that gets good gas mileage. Very reliable and fun to drive. It also fits a lot in it. We have fit 5 people and overnight bags and toys for all of us in this car.

Good car and I like the style of it. A little older and expensive to maintain.
It is very reliable and takes me where I need to go.

It has more headroom than most vehicle it's size
I like the fuel efficiency of the micro van and the amount of storage space inside when the back seats are folded down. It's also very easy to park.

An amazing car for driving around. It really has the space in it to carry a few things or people and then some
What I love most about my vehicle is how long it has lasted me. I also enjoy how much space it has in the car as well as how smooth the ride usually is.

Best car I have ever owned, hands down!
I have never had any major problems from this vehicle, ever. I have done normal maintenance, oil changes, tires, spark plugs etc. I live in Ohio, so I have had to patch the muffler. This has been the best car I have owned ever, hands down. Great gas mileage, plenty of room and good looking car as well!

How much room is inside. It looks so small from the outside.
I really like the roominess of the indoor portion of the car. It has a smaller motor, so it gets pretty good gas mileage. No big complaints!

It's a very misleading car from the outside, inside it's a very roomy car
It's a very small engine but it gets great gas mileage and since it falls under the Toyota family it will last forever, the seats are comfortable enough but they could be better, the only issues I have ever had were purely maintenance issues, be sure to get the tires rotated and the oil changed regularly

My favorite car. Reliability is a real standard when you own a Toyota.
My car was purchased used, to replace one I bought new. Scion xb is my favorite car that I have owned. I read a review stating that it was the most economical vehicle to own and that was true to my original. Changing oil regularly helps lots and I do it at the dealer so they know what they are looking at. Both cars had the rear handle replaced - original under recall, but the newer one I paid for. When it gets real cold or very wet the check engine lights always come on. Great mileage and awesome on the highways. It is not a luxury car so you feel the road you are on. Very good response on the steering wheel so it is easy to drive and it has anti skid warning. Sitting in the car seems like a van cause the seats seem higher and your legs can bend at the knee plus the windshield seems huge. The seats are cloth and roomy and the newer car has adjustable seat belts so they do not rub the side of your neck. Great radio, CD and great sound. I will never buy anything other than Toyota.

It's not the most powerful or fast vehicle, but it is very reliable and comfortable.
The Scion xB is a reliable little car that's great on gas, very roomy inside, and a fairly smooth ride.

The closest thing to a hybrid - gas saver!
I completely love the scion! Especially the 2006 model, it is a huge gas saver! It gives me approximately 31. 1 miles per gallon that I calculated myself, the newer models of the xb are also good on gas but not as great. It is so spacious! My husband is 6'3 and his knees do not even touch the front part of my vehicle, even in his Toyota 4runner his knees touch. The set up inside is so roomy I just love it!

Scion xB; 1st Gen... Unsurpassed reliability.
I've been a huge fan of the 1st generation Scion xB since they were first offered in 2004 and my mother bought one. She's still driving hers, with well over 200k miles on it, from PA to FL and back , several times a year. My 2006 now has over 160k miles and neither of us have had to do anything, other than routine maintenance to keep these cars going, for 14 years, and 12 years, respectively.

I receive great fuel mileage and it is very comfortable to drive
I love the square style of the car and there is a lot of room. The only thing I wish was bigger is the trunk
