The cabin is very quiet for a car in its price range, there’s plenty of passenger room and the V6 is strong.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The standard touch screen is small, it’s missing some of the luxury features of other cars and the transmission is slow.

2017 VW passat se, great car you should buy.
Overall the 2017 VW passat se is a great car. I have not had any problems with it, and believe I will own it for many years to come. My mom also drives a passat and can say the same. The sound quality is great and for me and my bass loving friends we really enjoy how it sounds.

Great ride and feature in a car.
It is very spacious and plenty of room. I love the heated seats and the dual temperature control. I live the Bluetooth features and hands free phone. It drives smooth and easy. I have the warm weather package and the side view mirror have the defrost. Also the safe feature that has the blind spot in the side mirrors are very handy. The back up camera makes it easier to see in back of you because sometimes it is not so easy to see while backing up. It is rides like a dream.

The Passat: A Vehicle Built to Grow With Your Family!
The Volkswagen Passat is a reliable and safe family vehicle. It provides plenty of cabin space for all passengers. In terms of the maintenance on the vehicle, there is minimal, with oil changes every 10 thousand miles and routine check-ups provided to you through the electronic dash. This vehicle also features updated technology with the Apple CarPlay system that allows for seamless use of the phone, Spotify, Apple Music and Maps. The leatherette material in the car is comfortable and resilient against the wear and tear of two kids ages 6 and 10.

Adaptive cruise control will change your road trips!
It has blind spot monitor and brakes for me if I don't brake quick enough. It is so safe! The sound system is awesome. The car is fast and so smooth to drive. The adaptive cruise is the best feature I have ever had in a car! When on a road trip because of the adaptive cruise the gas mileage is exceptional. Even around town the gas mileage is amazing!

Reliable car with great gas mileage and comfortable for driving long distances.
Overall, I really like the Volkswagen passat r-line. The only things I could comment on it is they need to improve the windshield wipers to be more effective in heavy rain, also create more wipers speeds, its either super fast or slow, no middle ground. Also when the lower tire pressure light comes on, the car should be able to tell you exactly which one, I shouldn't have to check all 4.

Volkswagen Passat are overrated
The car has electrical problems. Dashboards don't light up at night. I also has an engine air leak that requires attention.

2017 VW passat r line. Not anything interesting about it honestly.
Great engine function and life. Just do not like the body of the car. Seems a little outdated in style. The clock between the air vents has become moldy and only way to fix is to replace the whole part which included the vents. Also, the touch screen radio looks like it is bubbling. Parts are very expensive and it is still not considered a luxury vehicle.

Great car to have for small family. Great on gas and has plenty of room.
No problems with the car. Great car, drives well, does good on gas. No issues with the vehicle. Comfortable, plenty of room, great handling and easy maintenance. Seats are comfortable, plenty of leg room and trunk space. Great for tall people and has plenty torque and power:

Great car very efficient.
The car that I have is efficient and gets me where I have to go. I love how when I fill my tank up I have about 500-600 miles to travel on. The Carbis also very spacious and even with 5 people in the car it has a lot of space for everyone to be comfortable.

It is a minivan with a deep grey colored paint job that I personally love.
Well the car is great it is a minivan from 2017. It has some problems as of recently like after three years of driving and not much maintenance. It is my parents car and we are doing the best we can to keep it in great shape and it is going well. I just hope everyone sees the potential.

It has a TV in it we can watch movies.
Its reliable for the most part we really had no problems with it so far. We do keep it up with the vehicle. Maintenance it runs good. But we do get a lot of flat tires it seems like. I would definitely recommend this type of vehicle to the public for sure.
accountCircle Destiny S
There really is not anything to tell anyone. It is been a good, reliable car.
The car looks and drives great but has had many issues. Airbag failure & front assist failure in the first 6 months. Now my brakes are squeaking and they told me to just slam on them really hard and that should fix it for a few months. I got this car brand new.
accountCircle Mich T
It was built by an underhanded, cheating car company that got caught. VW has probably done other sneaky things like the emissions truck and just haven't been caught yet.
It is a very boring, run-of-the-mill car. It runs okay, but doesn't get very good gas mileage. I wouldn't buy another.

What Do Critics Say About the VW Passat?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2017 VW Passat is a very well-honed midsize sedan offering all the features you need, with high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Passat at 4.5/5, enjoying the very quiet cabin, but doesn’t like the slow transmission.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Passata a 4.4/5, praising the large back seats, but owners don’t like the higher ownership costs as it ages.

What Common Problems Does the 2017 Volkswagen Passat Have?

Common problems found on the 2017 VW Passat include the front brake assist sensors failing, the AC blowing hot air, along with paint quality issues. Overall, these problems are similar to some other midsize sedans on the market, although repair costs can get more expensive as they age.

Front brake assist sensors failing is the most widespread complaint on the 2017 VW Passat, showing up at around 40,000 miles. The main sensors that help the front brake assist system simply wear out over time. Some owners have had them work by cleaning them, while others say the sensors are just dead. Replacing the sensors costs around $800, depending on local labor rates.

The AC blowing hot air is another problem mentioned by some 2017 Passat owners at around 25,000 miles. Often the AC blows hot when the car turns on. Usually, the problem is caused by a worn out RCV valve. Fortunately, it’s not a very expensive part to replace, only costing around $100.

Paint quality issues have also been reported on the 2017 Passat at around 30,000 miles. Paint which is left in direct sunlight and not properly cared for will eventually start to fade and peel as it gets older. The only way to fix the issue usually is by repainting the affected areas, at a cost of around $1,000 per panel.

There are six recalls on the 2017 VW Passat, which is similar to many other sedans its age. The most serious recall covers a brake fluid leak which can reduce brake power. Volkswagen will replace the brake lines on affected models for free.

How Long Will the 2017 Volkswagen Passat Last?

A well-maintained 2017 Volkswagen Passat can last around 250,000 miles, which is shorter than the long-lasting Toyota Camry. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other midsize sedans, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $484 per year.

As a used 2017 Passat reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the oil pan gasket for $375, turbocharger oil line costing $500, along with the alternator which costs around $900.

accountCircle Creshawn E

It has been very reliable. I have been sure to maintain routine oil changes and fluid checks. I does seem that having it serviced at a VW dealership/service shop is better than going to any random service place. . I do have the oil temp degree showing up now, that I will need to take in and have addressed, not sure if it is a technology issue or engine issue.

accountCircle Emy T

Yes the 2017 Volkswagen passat r line w/comfort pkg is very reliable. I have not had any problems with it in the two years that I have had it.

accountCircle Krystal S

It is reliable. Absolutely. I don't love the windshield wipers, which is odd, but true. I have never had any maintenance issues that weren't recalls. I have had three different Passats at this point in my life and plan to continue buying them.

accountCircle Kim H

It is very hard to find a knowledgeable mechanic service, and services are very expensive. Feel trapped by not being able to work on my vehicle because of how engine and components are built.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is good with a standard 5-inch touchscreen on all models. Optional upgrades include a larger 6.3-inch touchscreen along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Standard safety technology is better than some competitors, offering:

  • Rearview camera
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • Park assist
  • Front and rear parking sensors

The seats themselves are well-designed for comfort, with available upgrades including premium leather upholstery and power-adjustable features for personalized comfort. 2015: Updated, more powerful engine on the TDI model.

2016: Minor exterior styling changes, updated interior materials, more technology.

2017: SEL model has been discontinued, standard and optional items shifted.

2018: Updated four-cylinder engine with more power, new GT model with V6 engine.

2019: Only two trim levels offered, Wolfsburg Edition and SE-R Line.

How Does the VW Passat Compare to the Competition?

The 2017 Volkswagen Passat is a nice midsize sedan, offering entry-level German luxury paired with a spacious cabin, making it a good choice for shoppers looking for some luxury on a budget.

The Volkswagen Jetta is a smaller car available from VW which costs around $1,000 less. Steering is more responsive in the VW Jetta, while the VW Passat offers better passenger and cargo space. We recommend the VW Passat since you get a lot more features for your money, making it worth the extra cost.

The Honda Accord is another midsize sedan which is about $3,500 more. Standard technology is better in the Honda Accord, while the cabin is more comfortable in the VW Passat. We recommend the Honda Accord since it’s more affordable to own long-term, although it’s worth test driving both to see which you prefer.

Volkswagen passat review: good.
My car is both reliable and comfortable. It is fun to drive around and I have had no issues with this car. The gas mileage is good and the car drives smoothly. I have not had to make any repairs or send the car into a shop for anything yet. The seat warmers are nice as is the car's heating system. There is a roof window which I enjoy and the seats recline and the car has a very easy to use Bluetooth option for playing music or listening to podcasts or the radio. The radio system is intuitive and very easy to use. The car is easy to drive and it turns easily and does not ever feel like it is going to flip. I enjoy this car very much.

Very comfortable and fast!
My car is very reliable and comfortable. The seats are adjustable to ensure perfect lumbar support. For a person with back issues, comfort is a important feature to me which this car exceeds. As far as reliability, I have never had an issue with it not being reliable.

Largest trunk I've seen in a sedan.
Pros: The best part is the deep trunk which allows us to fit our double stroller and groceries easily. It has good brakes. There is comfortable leg room in both the front and the back. Cons: The glass fogs easily. Once the automatic brakes caused us to stop on the railroad tracks.

Classic, comfortable, cool.
I love my passat. It drives really well and very smooth. The interior is very comfortable and stylish. I also love having apple CarPlay. The backup camera works great and added safety features like blind spot detection and automatic braking make me feel safe.

Love my 2017 VW passat r-line.
The car handles extremely well and this is my most favorite feature. The car does ok on gas mileage and could use some improvements in that area. The other great features are the backup camera and the blind spot monitor, they are not something I 100% rely on but it improves my sense of being safe and proceeding safely.

Comfortable, great on gas and ride smooth
Love the gas mileage I get. The only thing I really don't like is the controls on the steering wheel

VW Passat: all the luxury you want from a German car without the hefty price tag.
There is no better car in regards to style, quality, performance, technology, etc. For the price. The added warranty is a must too because VW has exemplary service and the warranty helps you take full advantage of it to best take care of your vehicle. The Passat has a timeless, classic, classy look that is always in style so the car always looks good and drives even better.

I love my car and I love the gas mileage on my vehicle.
I do not have any problems with my current vehicle. It drives very smooth and my car has excellent gas mileage. The only thing I wish my car had was heated seats. This car is great on long road trips. I can do a 6 hour road trip without ever needing to get gas.

ONE OF THE GREATEST VEHICLES THAT I HAVE EVER OWNED!
I LOVE MY VEHICLE! IT IS NOT TOO BIG AND NOT TOO SMALL AND HAS ENOUGH ROOM TO GO GROCERY SHOPPING AND SOME. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT AND IT TELLS YOU WHEN YOU HAVE A OIL CHANGE COMING UP OR IF SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR IN GENERAL.

It is great for road trips.
It has both carplay and Bluetooth connectivity, it is great to have a choice. The display in the dash for parking is fantastic. Interior is gorgeous and easy to clean. Performance is great - what's not to like about thus car? Great for long trips!

Volkswagen passat car review.
The car has not had very many issues. It runs very well. It was hard to figure out how to change the clock time. The air does not blow very hard even when it is all the way up even though it is very loud. There also is not air vents in the back that is not great, but other than that it's great!

I love my VW! Will def buy again!
I have been leasing my vehicle since 2017. I haven't had any major problems mechanically or electrical issues. I have about 50k miles. The car runs smooth. My favorite feature is the driving assistance. It breaks for you when you come too close to an upcoming vehicle.

My red Volkswagen passat vehicles.
Very comfortable and gets good gas mileage. It has a sunroof, fold down back seat, cup holders in back seat area, brake assist, beepers front, back and side. It has heated seats in the front, telephone thru the radio and Bose speakers throughout the vehicle.

It's the safest car to own
I love the safety features of my car. The automatic brakes stops my car before impact. The side view mirrors lets me know is something is in my blind spot.

A very smooth and comfortable ride.
My car is very comfortable with a smooth ride and great power. There's never any doubt if I need to pass. I love the leather and heated seats. The satellite radio is fun. No problems yet with reliability. It handles well and the rear camera is helpful when backing up.

Experience owning 2017 passat.
Love my passat! Great gas mileage - around 38 mpg. Handles great. One downfall is the ride- not great on bumps. Also, the headlights are terrible! Other than that, it is a great car. Very roomy- can fit my tall family members very comfortably in the car.
