The 2019 Toyota Highlander lasts around 300,000 miles with only some minor Bluetooth and fuel pump issues reported. At $25,750 to $37,975, it’s pricey, but worth the money for one of the most dependable midsize SUVs on the market.

The eight-speed automatic shifts slowly between gears, the suspension is firm and the third-row has limited legroom.

Amazing features for an amazing car!!
Super reliable with all wheel drive, lane assist and backup camera. My kids love the sunroof. I recently had a flat and it was very easy to locate the spare tire and to change it because all tools are provided. The back two rows can fold down to give more trunk room. The driver and front passenger seat can be adjusted with easy buttons on the side. They are also heated which is extremely helpful in the winter.

Comfortable, easy to drive SUV.
Very comfortable, easy to drive, so many neat features, exceptional safety features, the lane detection alone is worth it as well as the safe stop feature, the only issue is there is currently a recall on the vehicle which can be scary. Otherwise overall it is an excellent vehicle and I'd highly recommend it.

Good size & comfy to have for travel size.
The front too wide not that good looking. The middle row seat only heat seat and no cool seat. So far everything is pretty good and comfort. Good for family road trip with kids. Nice family size car to have to go to a lot of places. This year a lot of people I know purchased this type of car too.

Very interesting car of 2019 I am in love with the color.
My car is Toyota highlander 2019. The color is burgundy and it has tan color seats. The interior is very nice color. It has the snow button which helps with heavy snow to avoid slippery roads. It makes the drive easy in the winter time. It have the moonroof that makes it beautiful when it's summer time.

It is a super comfortable vehicle, super safe, I really like the heating of the seats, the audio system is excellent, it has sensors in the rear view mirrors and a backup camera, and the panoramic roof allows you to enjoy the road more without a doubt I would buy it again.

Truly fabulous family car!
Very safe and spacious. I have had it for two months and never had issues with it. Granite it is a brand new car but I had a bad experience before with my new jeep. They're not all great but this one definitely is! Great highway gas mileage pretty quick for an SUV it has sport mode normal and eco, which really helps if you're just running to the food store. Also it looks very luxurious! It is truly a great family car!

2019 Toyota highlander review.
No major problems with my Toyota highlander that I have had for over a year. Such a reliable car. The comfort and legroom in first and second row are ample. The 3rd row is not very roomy for adults. The heated and cooled seats are great for the cold or hot weather. The heated seats do not get overly warm.

Highlander favorite features.
The highlander is an extremely reliable vehicle. Comfortable for driver as well as passengers. Very spacious seating. Has a lot of nice features that improve safety of vehicle such as back up camera and notifications when a vehicle you are approaching is too close. Also has assisted lane feature that autocorrects your driving if you were from your lane.

Buyer beware! Noisy vehicle.
My car makes a loud droning noise at 1200 rpm and Toyota says there is nothing that shows up on sensors that would warrant a repair. There is terrible wind noise at the doors when driving on highways. There is no apple carplay. The material on the door handles wrinkles after a few weeks of driving.

Only Metric - will not convert to Imperial.
0rdered and Purchased a new toyoto highlander end of 2017. In the book, it stated that one could enjoy the imperial measurement instead of the foreign metric system. When I received the car, it would only show metric. Contacted Toyoto Canada and dealership who, both, told me Toyota took the ability to switch back to imperial away in their computers. They offered no explanation or help and basically, told me to s**k it up. I have been trying to get the system changed but no luck so far. Bev. B

Practical and comfortable.
It has been reliable. It is comfortable but has a lot of blind spots. Leg room is sufficient. I like all of the storage and like that there are captain's chair in the middle. That makes getting to the back seat easier. Seats are easy to fold down and when down there is a great deal of room to carry things.

Highlanders are good cars for the price.
It is okay for the size. It's a bit small but for a small family it will be ok. It drives good. It has many features for the price. Toyota is good quality. I have owned several Toyota's with no problems at all. I would continue to drive Toyota. I think they are good vehicles.

Windnoise
We basically traded our 2013 GMC for the 2019 Highlander due to the windnoise and now we are stuck with one that is worse. Took it to the dealer (Phillips Toyota) today and they tell us they are all that way and it is due to the large mirrors. Do not like that excuse as they obviously wouldn’t even try to repair it because there wasn’t a recall on it. Aren’t technicians trained on everything?????????

Good but get an upgraded model.
I should have upgraded more. Not a lot of features. Very reliable. Wheels will be expensive to replace. I wish I had bucket seats in the back as well. The trunk is not as large as you think it would be either. I am short but can reach the pedals. It is a smooth ride.

What Do Critics Say About the Toyota Highlander?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Toyota Highlander is a very capable and family-friendly midsize SUV with high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Highlander at 4/5, praising the standard high-tech safety features, but doesn’t like the limited legroom in the third row.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Highlander a 4.4/5, enjoying the quiet and comfortable interior, but owners don’t like the lack of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Toyota Highlander Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Toyota Highlander include Bluetooth connectivity issues, worn-out fuel pumps, as well as some chipping paint. Overall, these problems are minor compared to other midsize SUVs from the same year, leading to lower repair bills as they age.

Bluetooth connectivity issues are the most widespread complaint from 2019 Toyota Highlander owners in the first 10,000 miles. The software freezes and causes phones to disconnect from the stereo system. There are software updates which improve the connection stability. Dealers will usually update the software for free, while some may charge up to $100.

Worn-out fuel pumps have also been reported by Highlander owners at around 7,500 miles. There is a large recall for the entire fuel pump assembly on a lot of Toyota and Lexus models. Toyota will replace the entire assembly for free for free on all affected models.

Chipping paint on the front bumper is another issue reported by owners at roughly 25,000 miles. Paint which is improperly cared for is more likely to chip easily as it ages. The only way to fix the problem is by repainting the front bumper, which costs around $1,000.

There are three recalls on the 2019 Toyota Highlander, which is fewer than many other SUVs from the same year. The two most serious recalls both cover the fuel pump assembly, which Toyota will replace for free. The third recall is for a load capacity label, which is less of an issue, although Toyota will also replace the label for free as well.

How Long Will the 2019 Toyota Highlander Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Toyota Highlander can last around 300,000 miles, which is about 50,000 miles longer than the popular Honda Pilot. Regular annual maintenance costs are lower than many other SUVs, according to data from Repair Pal, at $453 per year.

As a used 2019 Highlander ages and reaches over 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the oxygen sensor for $550, window switch costing $400, as well as the front control arm, which costs around $900.

accountCircle ERNESTINA A

This is a reliable car. I cannot detect any problems as of yet. The temperature could be easier to control.

accountCircle Barbara R

Absolutely reliable! No issues whatsoever. It is still really new, but I believe it is going to be a great car for years to come.

accountCircle Christina B

This car is reliable. The only problem is the lane detectors are not up to date. Roads are being fixed; therefore, the car jerks near roads that are being fixed. The maps also need alternative routes. Whenever you miss a turn, it will tell you to u-turn rather provide another route.

accountCircle Lakaiya R

From what I have experienced it is very reliable so far and I haven't had any issues with it at all. It seems to always meet my expectations of a great car.

accountCircle Lisa D

The tires are not that great in the snow. I think a Toyota could provide better quality tires especially in colder climates such as mine.

accountCircle Rosa V

As of yet I have not encounter any issues. Only thing is I would have liked for the merging signal as well.

accountCircle Ashley T

So far it has been very reliable. I have run into no problems other than hitting a deer. So far the gas mileage is not what it was advertised as, but it is still superior to other vehicles I have driven in the past.

accountCircle Jose Z

Yes it is, it’s the perfect size SUV. Great car for running errands, commuting to work and a road trip. I haven't had any issue at all

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is very good in the 2019 Toyota Highlander with a standard 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity. There’s an optional 8-inch touchscreen, as well as more powerful stereo systems available. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered on the 2019 Highlander.

Safety technology is excellent since Toyota Safety Sense is standard on all models. Standard advanced safety features include a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, as well as automatic high-beam headlights. Optional upgrades include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, and a surround-view parking camera system.

Is the 2019 Toyota Highlander a Good Value?

Yes, the 2019 Toyota Highlander is a great value for one of the most reliable midsize SUVs on the market. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $25,750 to $37,975, making it more expensive than a Mazda CX-9 or Hyundai Santa Fe. When new, the price range was $31,830 to $49,180. Depreciation is better than other SUVs, losing about 7% of its current value per year.

Passenger room is excellent in the first and second row, while the third row has limited legroom, making it best suited to smaller children.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The third generation of the Toyota Highlander was launched in 2014, and was replaced by the fourth generation in 2020.

2015: No major changes.

2016: Towing package standard on all V6 models.

2017: More powerful V6 engine, standard Toyota Safety Sense technology, updated front grille with LED headlights.

2018: No major changes.

2019: Minor exterior styling changes.

2020: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new styling, engines, as well as upgraded technology.

2021: XSE model introduced with a sport suspension.

How Does the Toyota Highlander Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Toyota Highlander is one of the best midsize SUVs since it offers outstanding safety technology paired with great long-term reliability ratings.

The Honda Pilot is a competitor which costs around $2,000 less. Passenger room is a bit better in the Honda Pilot with a larger third row, while the Toyota Highlander has more standard safety technology. We recommend the Toyota Highlander since they last slightly longer, although both are very good choices for a dependable midsize SUV.

The Subaru Ascent is another midsize SUV which is about $3,000 less. The standard all-wheel drive system in the Subaru Ascent is better, while the Toyota Highlander has more passenger room. We recommend the Toyota Highlander since ownership costs are lower as they age.

It is a nice black color 2019 new Toyota highlander. I like the navigation & the music system it has. Also the full black luxurious stylish seats and the shapes. Toyota engine is always recommended for long lasting. It is v6 3.5. Also have a roof windows. Air conditioning and heating is available as usual. Also front seats has hearings pads. The most exciting part is it has the auto start system which I do not have to put the keys in.

Great vehicles for both daily use and long distance travel.
This vehicle has excellent performance. It is reliable, dynamic, look beautiful and it is pleasant to ride in it. This car is trustworthy, although it has its downsides. The technical Toyota highlander costs a little more than we would like, but does not exceed the bounds of decency. Toyota wheels from the factory are inexpensive, but they are not very good and their design is standard. Conclusion: Toyota car is good wherever you go. The only trouble is that it is gradually becoming obsolete.

Lots of bang for your buck!
It has been very reliable and seats 7 people which is good for not being a huge SUV. It has a very smooth ride and has had no issues to date. Has comfortable seats and the only thing I wish it had was a better navigation system. The pickup of the engine is great and it really hugs the road. Also, in high wind situations I feel very safe in this vehicle because unlike the larger SUV's it is lower to the ground. The detailing is great and has held up, I have driven it for 2.5 years and it looks brand new inside, and I am not easy on my vehicles. This is a solidly made vehicle for a very reasonable price.

Great family car without an overwhelming size.
We love the flexible space with the ability to fit extra kids when needed. Filing all seats would be a tight fit, but it is useful for a quick drive when needed. Space in the front and middle rows was important and we needed enough to stretch legs, we really like that the middle row can move forward and backwards to accommodate shorter legs and longer legs. Storage space is great, we keep sunglasses and masks on the easy to access shelf under the dashboard. Center console had great storage space. And plenty of cup holders.

This car is one of the best cars I have ever had. It is an 8 passenger which is perfect for my children and all my nieces and nephews. The performance is great considering it is not the most powerful v6 engine. I love all the room and comfort I have within it. My favorite part of the car is the center console I have in the front seat. It has so much room I can put my purse in it. There's a great amount of cup holders and more than enough space for my children to grow into the big men I am sure they'll be.

The Toyota highlander was a surprise buy. It is the best car I have ever drove. Very smooth. The car glides on the road. The safety features are great. Lots of room in the car. Good on gas for a larger SUV. Mine does not have heated seats. So a minor downside. And for 2019 it does not have the lights on the side mirrors to let you know when around car is too close for you to switch lanes. I believe the 2020 does have that feature.

Smooth ride with power but small cargo area.
It drives incredibly smooth. It drives like a car but has the capacity of the SUV. It has power and comfort all at the same time. The factory sound system is surprisingly really good. While I love that it seats 8, the seating can be very cramped, especially in the 3rd row. The other downfall is that the cargo space is very limited when the 3rd row seats are up.

The cruise control feature is easy to use. Very reliable and comfortable.
No issues yet. A little hard to navigate when it comes to the technology. I have a hard time finding the screen that shows what the tire pressure is on my car. It is very comfortable and drives smooth. I do not use all of the features very much. I love that I have four USB chargers in the car, though, I do think that two more should be in the far backseat area. Trunk space when all seven seats are in use is minimal which makes road trips with a full car very uncomfortable. It has been a very reliable car thus far and I would recommend it to others.

We have no problems to report on our highlander. It is very comfortable and reliable. There is plenty of room for passengers and cargo. It drives very smoothly. I like that it has the third row for extra passengers. Highlanders also come in a variety of colors to choose from. This is our third highlander and we have always been very happy with the vehicles.

Third row seats can make or break.
The highlander is reliable and has many options like sunroof, tow package, and third row. Third row seats are a plus but really lessens trunk and leg space. When not in use, fold down seats provide a lot of trunk space. Drives very well, and is very roomy for a family. Needs cooled seats.

If you need to carry more than five passengers, a three-row SUV is a good option.
If you need to carry more than five passengers, a three-row SUV is a good option. But newer models can be pricey, and midsize SUVs rarely match the fuel efficiency of a smaller vehicle. That is why consumer reports put together this list of used three-row SUVs with the best overall fuel economy, from luxury models to efficient hybrids. And because it is based on cr’s own real-world fuel-economy tests, it is a list you can trust.

The Toyota highlander is a spacious and safe family vehicle.
The Toyota highlander has a great amount of storage. The automatic braking feature, as well as the blind spot sensors make the Toyota highlander a great and safe car for any family. The audio system gives drivers and passengers the ability to connect their phones wirelessly and play their favorite music.

The weather app is an interesting detail that most cars do not have.
It is comfortable, has a lot of safety features, plenty of space, and drives really nice. It has the right amount of room for me and my two kids. The drive is really smooth and I like having a truck because the visibility is better than a car. I like the radio features and the weather app.

My highlander, it an amazing ride.
I've had no problems. I get good fuel mileage, there is plenty of power, it tows well. The back up camera is excellent, plenty of room and seats, I have seven seater, stops on a dime, sets low for easy seating, one blind spot on the left side that you have to be careful of.

Best features of a Toyota highlander.
I really like this vehicle. The third row seat sits 2 large or 3 small people. It folds down flat which provides a large cargo area. This vehicle has an automatic headlight dimmer which is very helpful for driving at night. It will switch from bright to regular when the car senses oncoming headlights. It is also very economical on gasoline. I feel this was a very good investment for my family.

Toyota highlander. Everything you can expect in the vehicle!
I have had no issues with my vehicle. This is my second highlander and I have no complaints whatsoever. Great power rumi comfortable and relaxing. Great vehicle for kids in sports. Great vehicle for traveling. Great leather stitch job both of my highlanders came with Sirius XM which is amazing! Once you've made that switch you definitely will not listen to standard radio as often.

I would highly recommend the Toyota highlander.
I am a mom of two and I love my highlander it is very spacious for the kids and it has the third row which folds down for extra trunk room. For a bigger SUV it does not feel like your driving a tank. It rides smooth, has automatic everything, sunroof, GPS and a ton of safety features. I will be purchasing another one in the future and I highly recommend the highlander.

Fun family SUV for all ages.
Amazing vehicle. This is a great family SUV. Seats 7. Smooth ride. This is my second one I have owned. The seats fold down for a lot of storage. The perfect vehicle to have when traveling or transporting a bunch of kids from game to game. It is easy to enter to the third row.

Toyota highlander 2019 review.
The screen is angled to where the sun has a glare on it. It is hard to see at certain times of the day. When the phone is connected through Bluetooth, it echoes a lot when you talk. I like the heated and cooling seats. And the captain seats. I like the way it drives.

First thoughts of the car is very reliable.
Trunk can get stuck sometimes. Overall, solid in terms of performance, reliability, comfort, and features. Cabin is spacious. Voice amplification helps with talking to kids in back of car. Radar cruise control and lane departure features are very nice.

Great SUV overall look forward to new features in future.
The vehicle is a smooth ride, acceptable gas mileage for a SUV, comfortable, and spacious. It lacks technology offered in other vehicles. It is cruise control assist is a nice new feature. It is my third highlander I love them but look forward to some new safety features and car starter and heater steering wheels for us that own in cold climates.

This was a great purchase. Meet all of a families needs.
Smooth ride that works with kids or on a date. The gas mileage is comparable with any SUV on the market and the heating a cooling systems both have strong too temperatures (meaning you will be warm and/or cold when needed).Overall very happy with the vehicle. Even as a lease.

Car alarm going off at random intervals.
There is only one problem that I have experienced with my highlander and that is the car alarm going off at random intervals. Besides that p, the highlander has been a great car. The interior is nice and there is plenty of legroom. The electronics are easy to navigate and the floor mats are easy to clean.

2019 Toyota highlander: a nice family vehicle.
It is a reliable vehicle. It drives well. Very nice safety features. The driver's seat is comfortable. There is plenty of legroom in the first row. Storage is adequate. The display could be better. The Bluetooth phone connection is not always clear. The backup camera is nice.

Awesome car, with lots of space and very comfortable.
Gas pump was defective, other than that the SUV is awesome love the leather seats and the 3rd seat row on the back. Love how is tall and also the moonroof, what I do not love is the super yellow lights which make the car look kind of old, should consider put led light in all new cars.

Great vehicle - Bluetooth issues.
The Bluetooth for phone has an echo. Bluetooth connectivity in general is not very good. If you adjust the sound while using Bluetooth for anything other than music, it switches to whatever music app you use on your phone. My particular model is not equipped with apple play. The automatic windshield wipers are not as reliable as I would like. I do love the space. It is very comfortable. It handles very well.

Comfortable and very spacious.
It's a great family car very spacious car esp. With small kids. Seats are really wide and comfortable. Looks. Great esp. In all. Black they only downside is that it does not have android. To connect. And also the belt ring keep tingling even. If you put something on the car seat you have to beat it.Up.

Overall a great and reliable SUV.
Perfect for a growing family. Love the extra third row seat and huge trunk space. Love the features and comfortability of the seats and built in visors for the back row seats. Drives and runs smooth. Had no engine problems, so it must be very reliable and durable. Love Toyota!

Why you should buy the Toyota highlander.
It is very good. There are not any problems with the car whatsoever. The car is also very comfortable and relaxing. I would recommend buying this car for many reasons. This car is also driveable during the winter which a lot of cars are not. This car is also very affordable.

My first Toyota highlander.
It is a good midsize tree rows, it is comfort and features are exceptional. Gas consumption is economic. Everybody knows about Toyota reliability: I was amazed when for the first time I used a anti collision system SUV in a highway. The system is working amazingly. At 15000 miles I do not have problems. Try and you will not be disappointed.

The Toyota highlander is a reliable SUV crossover.
My car includes Bluetooth, satellite radio, eco option and touch screen. It is a comfortable car with leather seats and captain style backseat. Tons of trunk space which is helpful for traveling especially with children. It is a smooth car and not too bulky or wide. It has a sensor if you cross any lines on the road. It is an extremely reliable car and it is one I am considering keeping after my lease is up.

Great family road trip car!
My highlander is very comfortable, especially on long road trips. The seats are widely adjustable. The seats are leather, very comfortable and comfort nicely to my body. I like the seat warmer on cooler days. The back seat us roomy. The back seat are adjustable. The back cargo area us roomy. I can fit a lot of stuff back there. I like that the back seats also fold down for more room. On a recent road trip I turned the back into a bed.
